SNP in coalition with Greens

Disneycharacter · 21/08/2021 15:37

Obviously to gain traction for a referendum on devolution and ultimately independence

The greens want to shut down all gas and oil because of environmental concerns, but gas and oil provide most of Scotland's revenue and they would need that for independence

How is that circle squared?

And the Greens are to be given ministerial roles in transport and the economy. The economy! Did Nicola not read their manifesto? They are officially against economic growth.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 08:35

It will suit her narrative that we are poor cos WM.

The last thing they want is a prosperous Scotland

MaMelon · 31/08/2021 09:26

They have literally no idea how to grow the economy - none whatsoever. I think the grand plan is to push for independence, get a 50.5% majority or thereabouts, spend the following few years arguing with the WM Govt and bleating about how unfair they’re being in the divorce, apply to rejoin the EU somehow (vague wave of hand about how that will actually happen), then go for every single EU grant to shore up the failing economy. Meanwhile many of us who are net taxpayers and many businesses with any sense will have fucked off out of here or moved their money elsewhere.

A Green/SNP Govt - you couldn’t make it up.

Whycangirlsbesonasty · 31/08/2021 09:30

It’s like they are testing to see just how far they can push their deluded supporters before they realise how appallingly they are running the country.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 31/08/2021 09:33

Sadly I suspect you're right @MaMelon. There don't seem to have any robust plans for any of it, beyond 'Scotland has resources, it'll be fine, how dare you say we're too poor, too stupid etc.' (Incidentally, has anyone bar SNP ministers ever actually said the too poor, too stupid thing?)

Those with the means will absolutely move out rather than sit tight in a failed state run by ultra-woke ideologues with no business sense and a long track record of fucking everything up, and the UK I'm sure will welcome it's former citizens with open arms (particularly if they're skilled/higher earners). I pity anyone left behind in an independent Scotland.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 09:45

Yes. If you enquire as to how it will all work
In practice you’re just a Tory supporting English lover who worships Boris and reads the Daily Mail.

And: “but Norway”

MaMelon · 31/08/2021 10:07

And ‘not a true Scot’/‘a fearty’/‘doesn’t want to be in charge of their own destiny’/etc - pretty much the same as the insults the Brexiteers threw at the Remainers but with a tartan bow on them.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 10:13

This pact with this lot should surely be the death knell though?

With Harvie, the Minister for Zero 🤣

But I. good news looks like their right to ask FMQs is being removed

annabelindajane · 31/08/2021 10:41

@MaMelon

1.3% share of the votes and they are in power. As if the SG couldn't get any worse.

I can only hope that once people start realising the negative impact this will have on Scotland they'll stop blindly voting for the SNP.

The problem is people hear Greens and think they will save the planet so they must be good . That certainly is what made some ( largely well meaning women ) people who hadn’t read their policies vote for them .

Suspect must be same for the SNP voters - just blindly believe it will get independence and to hell with their policies as it will all be fine when they have independence and can borrow lots of money to pay for it .

Kate Forbes couldn’t even answer serious questions about present interest rates on the bonds markets where she intends to shop come the big day . You wouldn’t catch out Rishi or Gordon Brown when he was chancellor with questions like that.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 10:47

I actually don’t think they understand things like how a currency works.

They can’t even understand basic biology, to be fair

Well put !

PigeonPants · 31/08/2021 11:54

I don't understand why all of this is necessary, or how it's convincing or reassuring to independence supporters. The Scottish Parliament voted 69-59 in March 2017 in favour of another independence referendum and the Scottish Government failed to pursue it. It's still the same party of government and the same FM. What makes anyone think they're going to make any genuine move toward independence now, or that they'd need another or different mandate to pursue it?

MaMelon · 31/08/2021 11:59

Because if they can get the Green vote it boosts their chances of winning the Indy ref.

Whycangirlsbesonasty · 31/08/2021 12:09

But the green votes are the SNP votes which are 40%-ish and not enough. There is someone that comments on The National articles about independence to say that Nicola should publish the economic plan for a successful Scotland as that would persuade more No voters to vote yes. I cba to work out how to comment, but I am dying to scream at him that THERE IS NO ECONOMIC PLAN FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCOTLAND! THAT’S WHY SHE ISNT FOLLOWING YOUR USEFUL ADVICE!!!!

I can’t believe people can be so naive!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 31/08/2021 12:31

This all reminds me of a recent Wings article (yes, I know, but it's good for a laugh sometimes). It is quite funny to look at just how many times Indyref2 has been just round the corner honest in the last few years, but somehow it never seems to quite happen no matter how many 'rock solid mandates' the SNP stack up. It's almost as though the FM knows it isn't a great idea, and she'd probably lose anyway. Doesn't stop her throwing a bit of meat to her supporters every now and then though to keep them quiet. The most amazing thing is that they believe anything that comes out of her mouth at this point!

KimikosNightmare · 31/08/2021 13:30

No, never- it's a complete straw man invented by the separatists.

MaMelon · 31/08/2021 13:37

I don't think that's true - there are people who wouldn't vote for the SNP who do vote Green. They can also put through their separatist policies more easily - and in return the Greens will have us bad car owners all driving everywhere at 20mph and paying some new set of exorbitant taxes while everyone else will be given free bicycles. Currency will carbon points and worthless outside of Scotland.
