SQA results

So it’s SQA results day tomorrow. As we’ve all had the ‘exam’ results already what is going to happen tomorrow? Will we get letters through the door with certificates? I know we didn’t sign up for the text (as far as I can recall) so won’t be getting an early morning text. Going to be strange isn’t it?!

In England it seems as though they’re getting their results tomorrow as normal - I can’t work out whether the pupils got an indication of their results before they broke up - seems to be that they didn’t judging by the nervous posts on various fora.

Did you all celebrate the results before the end of term? I’m finding it all a bit discombobulating Confused

Yes I think they will get their certificates in the post as they did last year as well. My dd has signed up for the text I think although she already knows her results

Awrite · 09/08/2021 15:55

Our post doesn't get delivered until about 1pm. Same as you, dd didn't sign up for text (if that was even as option).

Dd has just assumed her grades will be what she was told. NAT 5's though so not needed for uni this year.

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 15:57

Dd had signed up for texts for her Nat5s so didn't need to register again for highers (last year) or her advanced highers (this year)

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 15:59

They had to activate a MySQA account to sign up for results by text/email

NewSchoolYear · 09/08/2021 16:07

I had the MySQA account on my phone last year but didn’t do anything this year and deleted the App. So I’ll just be waiting on the letter (but not with any great sense of anticipation or nervousness!)

I wonder if the app would have saved your details if you logged back in

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 16:10

Although it looks like you can't do anything with it now until Wednesday

summertimeinscotland · 09/08/2021 22:21

@dementedpixie can you tell me if the certificate has their grade only or does it say 1/2/3/4 etc?

Nat5 parent 1st timer, so glad we didn't have to wait all summer for results.

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 22:26

It just gives a grade e.g. A, B, C, etc

@dementedpixie thank you!
Your child did so well in their nat 5s.

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 23:20

Thanks
She even sat actual exams that year!

WeAllHaveWings · 10/08/2021 00:46

Another strange year, last year ds was a "victim" of both the postcode downgrade and teacher admin errors on his disappointing first NAT5 certificate which was then resolved (he has 3 versions of his NAT5 certificate).

This year he was told his higher grades over 2 days, class by class, silently in front of classmates which was excruciating for them and each time he got one he texted us. So because he knows his grades tomorrow will be a non event.

I just hope S6 is a more normal year and he gets that open an envelope and being (hopefully!) pleased with his results feeling just once before leaving school.

KatySun · 10/08/2021 08:11

So basically the grades we were told at the beginning of the summer are what they will get? Or is there a chance they will be changed? (So confused by this).

HGC2 · 10/08/2021 08:16

My son has been told his predicted higher grades, just looking forward to seeing it in black and white! He’s relaxed and not expecting any change to what he was told

dementedpixie · 10/08/2021 08:22

Don't think the grades can get changed once the teachers submit them

Smallkeys · 10/08/2021 08:26

We rewarded DS on 5 A for higher but just found out her English wasn’t teacher confirmed so will be gutted if it’s a b or less. Especially as I told all the family etc arghhhg

KatySun · 10/08/2021 08:33

Okay, thanks, fingers crossed!

HGC2 · 10/08/2021 08:40

My son did get a text, grades as he had been told

RoseDog · 10/08/2021 11:02

We are waiting on Ds grades, he didn't sign up for text results and hope he gets his predicted grades he was given before the holidays.

Good luck everyone!

SQA grade statistics for 2021. Forums seem to say attainment down on 2020, but still significantly higher than 2019. Still to read the details and compare to 2019 to see if there is and how bad the grade inflation is.

Haven't mentioned to ds yet but he will be disappointed if his results are devalued due to this.

TheGenealogist · 10/08/2021 11:38

Both the sets of results in this house were exactly as expected, the school's grades have been confirmed by SQA.

@WeAllHaveWings, DS was one of the cohort which should have done Highers last year and didn't, he feels very much as if his results are devalued.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/08/2021 12:25

Has anyone else looked at the grade stats. I am seeing for English 42% got an A compared to 23% in 2019/2018. Physics 42% got an A compared to 28% in 2019/2018? Is that right? Shock Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

WeAllHaveWings · 10/08/2021 12:32

Looks like I am looking at the right thing. Still massive grade inflation for A passes at Higher.

It's such a shame for all the kids who have worked their socks off, and had their education SO disrupted, that many have inflated grades and will struggle to get a Uni place next year if everyone has A passes at Higher.

Uni offers this year have been exceptionally weird for DS's cohort who were given grades last year according to the algorithm. DS got unconditionals from 4, a straight rejection from another. Next year's going to be jsut as hard.
