Is the end nigh?

Yeah most things are open around here (Fife/tayside) but not properly. Just checked Dundee swimming pool to see if it’s opening slides and fun stuff yet and no, apparently covid restrictions do not allow having fun in a pool, just book a lane 😬. Have given up even trying to book swimming and we now all just swim in the sea or a river. At least the weathers been great for that this summer. I’m not too bothered about masks, I hate them but I’ve already gotten used to not doing inside stuff as I’m never organised to book.
School really bugs me though. I have one going into p7 and he’s been looking forward to having a wee p1 buddy since he was in p1 and he’s going to miss out on that and goodness knows what else this year. I can’t see it being a normal year anyway

YeDancer · 05/08/2021 15:24

I'm going to London start of September @WouldBeGood to see a show. Hoping it won't be cancelled. Haven't heard anything about needing to be tested in advance or show proof of jag?

tiredoftiers · 05/08/2021 15:34

we were at an event while we were in England, and had to either show printed proof of our vaccinations cause the Scottish government can't get their act together with IT , a negative lateral flow test confirmation that day, or proof of a positive test within the last 180 days but more than 10 days prior.
It was annoying, but the event was completely worth it.

De-lurking to Agree about the reality behind the scenes of local services being far from restriction free.

Our local pool only allows two families in at a time, for an hour's slot, and only about 3 slots available a day. And looks like nothing is changing post-9th.

Our library is open but solo browsing encouraged, so not sure they would welcome a few families trooping in and I don't want to feel weirdly guilty about letting my kids pick out books.

And as someone else mentioned, what about the interactive elements of a museum? My wee one's favourite museum was the Riverside, but now he's bored after 5 minutes of wandering about and not being able to touch the now switched off interactive displays or have a closer look at his favourite trains Hmm. Even one of the staff told us it's crap now because they've taken away all the stuff for kids!Grin

Basically, how long will "cos covid" remain the reply to any questioning? Will it just be an excuse to lighten the load on public services, often to the detriment of those who need it most?

I get that the nightclubs should rightfully get to reopen, but when will we take a look at the disparities and realise it's utter nonsense?

Lockdownbear · 05/08/2021 15:52

The lane swimming thing does my head in, what kids (other than club swimmers who can swim) swim lanes. Kids are forgotten about again.

Kids are just paying the price for everything. It's shite.

How many kids are messing around in lochs and rivers because pools are closed to them?
It's so dangerous.

Arrrrr!

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 16:06

But yet at my private gym there are practically no restrictions at all in the swimming pool and that was also the case Sep- Nov.
It's like foreign holidays- it's really clear that enough money buys your way out of most restrictions.

GoldenOmber · 05/08/2021 16:10

Our local library is now open, but you’re meant to go alone if possible and advise if children will be accompanying you. And you need to wear masks, sanitise hands, follow a one-way system round the shelves. Doesn’t sound brilliant for going to get my toddler’s first library card and first library books, really.

Lockdownbear · 05/08/2021 16:24

Rookie - you might have just persuaded me to look at a private gym. I wish there was more around with pools.

Even in October it was don't travel unless you have a holiday booked. Sod the families who would have enjoyed a couple of day trips beyond the city walls.
Very true money buys you out off it. Inc the you can meet a pal anywhere with a till but not in a house.
Money the root of all evil.

Scottishskifun · 05/08/2021 16:36

We've just booked our holiday and it was cheaper for a 4* place all flights meals and transfers then it was for a cottage or hotel in Scotland or England.

We are lucky though and have family in England not far from the airport so the tests for returning and 2 days are cheaper by an extremely long way! We are £160 in total for tests (which is still added cost) but compared with £326 from flying out of Scotland it's huge!

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 16:47

@Lockdownbear my main problem with the lovely outdoor pool is that there are too many users there for me to swim comfortably but then indoor pool usually empty unless DC swimming lessons are on.

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 16:56

@Scottishskifun good for you I am well jealous but just couldn't hold my nerve to go abroad this summer.

I do find the Scottish testing monopoly interesting- on what basis did they decide which company to use and how to set the price.

Scottishskifun · 05/08/2021 17:20

No idea its only offered through CTM - just been to their website it would actually be £340 if flying into Scotland!

I know it's been raised a few times as well! I get the feeling that it's political to put people off travelling at all which has such detrimental effects on airports and travel industry in Scotland!

Meanwhile Englands industry gets a small amount of business back!

We weren't going to go on holiday abroad but the change in vaccination isolation rules for returning and DS having covid already means he has antibodies til approx Nov (and doesn't need testing) meant I got fed up and the deals from England are really good! We don't usually do package holidays but to save hassle have done!

I can't see testing going away for holidays anytime in the next couple of years sadly (til the world is vaccinated and passports for them everywhere) so thought sod it!

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 17:47

@titsintiers we’d just be travelling for this show, and it would be costly in money and disappointment if dd gets a positive LFT.

Actually, what would then be supposed to happen about travel home? If it was positive.

All too much stress

tiredoftiers · 05/08/2021 17:48

@rookiemere we go to a private pool, and you wouldn't really know that covid existed. It has definitely got much much busier since covid. It frustrates me that it appears that public stuff is really affected and private is not. The anomalies that appear are huge.
Libraries fill out a test and trace form, nothing in a bookshop.
Nightclubs looking like being open, with no masks for dancing/ drinking but secondary school pupils masking and distancing.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 17:49

Sorry, that was for @tiredoftiers!

OP posts:
tiredoftiers · 05/08/2021 18:38

@WouldBeGood I know. I had all the same thoughts and then we just went a bit reckless and went for it. I might have had regrets if my lateral flow the morning we were due to go had been positive.

ResilienceWanker · 05/08/2021 19:45

I'm going to rail about headaches. I'm not a headachey person but I woke up yesterday with one, that's really really mild but not going tf away... just fuzzyheadedness really, but gets worse when lying down and hasn't gone with paracetomol.

As I had my second jag last Friday, and the nurse drummed into me that headaches getting worse when lying down, and not responding to painkillers is a Bad Thing, I called my GP to see if I could get an appointment tomorrow, and she's just called back and sent me to fecking A & E. I was hoping she'd reassure me that actually, no, it needs to be a big fuck off headache, so just drink some water and keep an eye on it.

So rail to covid cos I'm not even allowed a pathetic little headache that doesn't even need painkillers without it being a huge faff.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 19:53

Oh, @ResilienceWanker that is shite! Least they’re checking you out… hope you’re ok

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 05/08/2021 19:56

@ResilienceWanker better safe then sorry but it's crap! Hopefully it won't be too long in A&E and it's just a headache!

ResilienceWanker · 05/08/2021 20:31

Thanks! It's pretty busy... just triaged and waiting for blood tests. At least it's not Friday night. Doesn't even feel like a self respecting headache tbh! Felt like a right malingerer between 2 beds in triage with people basically with bits hanging off Blush but I know it's weird and the GP wouldn't have sent me here for the lols.

latissimusdorsi · 05/08/2021 21:21

Oh no @ResilienceWanker Just how you wanted to spend a Thursday evening Hmm
Safer to get checked out though Hope you're not there too long and the headache settles down

Lockdownbear · 05/08/2021 21:33

Hope you are OK, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

GoldenOmber · 05/08/2021 21:33

You doing okay ResilienceWanker?

runningpink · 05/08/2021 21:33

I hope you get out soon @ResilienceWanker

Random one but at the end of June/start July time can anyone remember what the rules on numbers at weddings were? This would be for the islands who were in a lower tier than all of us I think

Outer islands were level 0 so would be 150-200 people.
