@ElephantOfRisk Story in MSM too, I’m not just enjoying a gossipGrin

Iwantthesummersun · 13/08/2021 21:18

I’m an Edinburgh native @ResilienceWanker and fondly remember the sheer joy of deciding on a whim to go to a show as it was cheap and it was okay if it was rubbish or totally bizarre (polish theatre set in Infirmary Street Baths anyone?). But now it’s so expensive that I need to be convinced it’s going to be good before I go. The Fringe had lost its magic.

ElephantOfRisk · 13/08/2021 21:25

I'm a former native too and loved the spontaneity and wandering around soaking it up and taking a chance on some shows. Then latterly taking my boys in for the day, booking some stuff and a few visits to the book festival. Really missing these traditions, also the panto, not sure whether it's worth trying to book or not.

ElephantOfRisk · 13/08/2021 21:28

Well Panto is cancelled until 2022 so that's that then.

I'll see your Polish theatre and raise you 2 Czech mime artists in a cage at de Marco arts foundationConfused
Fortunately tickets were only about a fiver each

Which Panto? The Kings (Glasgow) said theirs was going ahead.
ElephantOfRisk · 13/08/2021 22:55

There’s a disproportionate number of them and associates in court

So while we are gossiping and speculating, is she split from husband who now lives in Kilwinning and she went over there and had a domestic, called the cops and he got taken in and then told them she was to blame and then they went and picked her up?

The one my daughter is usually in is holding auditions right now!
WouldBeGood · 14/08/2021 06:07

More railing on the SG’s obssession with eroding women’s rights. There’s a massive document “guiding” schools on all things trans, including saying there’s no right to single sex toilets. Ffs.

Surely to goodness they could think about safeguarding for girls too?

Yeah pantos on in Glasgow by the looks of it. Maybe the MacRobert have just cancelled theirs? Doesn't necessarily mean they're all done.

How normal do we really expect it to be? It's moving in the right direction hopefully. I'm praying they remove masks and SD from schools after the 6 week review if the numbers stay relatively stable.

forfucksakenett · 14/08/2021 08:10

Thread taking it's usual nasty turn. Barely concealed glee about Gill Sturgeon. Hmm

GoldenOmber · 14/08/2021 08:52

How normal do we really expect it to be? It's moving in the right direction hopefully.

It doesn’t really feel like it’s moving at all in a lot of things, though. My local library for example is operating under exactly the same conditions it was at before we went beyond level 0. Can sing in church but only with masks on, same as before. Still haven’t seen the room my youngest is in at nursery and was sort of hoping to at some point but no, can’t do that either. And so on and so on for loads of things, with no sign at all of when that might ever change.

As for how normal I’d expect things to be: well, I do believe that restrictions like this on people’s day-to-day lives should not be kept in place a moment longer than strictly necessary. And I appreciate this isn’t everyone’s view but it is, at least nominally, our government’s view as well. So once we have rolled out as many vaccines as we have, and the virus is in no danger of overwhelming the NHS any more, I would like things to be a fair bit normal-er than they currently are.

forfucksakenett · 14/08/2021 09:00

Fair enough. I suppose I was thinking I can out for a drink maskless, have dinner etc. Soft plays are open and what not. Churches and libraries do still sound a bit shit. Hopefully we'll see some change soon.

TheGenealogist · 14/08/2021 09:02

News reporting last night that Up Helly Aa - at the end of JANUARY - has been cancelled for 2022 for the second year in a row because of uncertainty. This event is such a massive deal for the Shetland economy.

ElephantOfRisk · 14/08/2021 09:07

You can go for dinner or a drink but you still need to wear a mask when moving about and to register for the tracing. Masks in supermarkets, events cancelled, issues with swimming, libraries, churches. Still on self catering holidays not getting in until 5 and needing to be out by 9.

forfucksakenett · 14/08/2021 09:08

But many other festivals and large events are going ahead. Who cancelled it?

WouldBeGood · 14/08/2021 09:10

Apparently, cafes and so on are suffering from low numbers: some people are still afraid to go out, so want all the restrictions continued, some people hate the restrictions so won’t go out.

As for back to normal, a friend was handed an A4 laminated sheet to read before being permitted to have a menu or to sit at an outside table.

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 14/08/2021 09:10

And I'm not interested in the Panto in Glasgow or elsewhere, good if that's the one people want to go to and it's on.

WouldBeGood · 14/08/2021 09:12

As well as weddings, events, libraries, swimming, leisure centres: the list goes on and on.

I’ve never met nor spoken to a single one of DS’ teachers.

They want testing everywhere.

How is this even vaguely normal?

It's just that you claimed panto was cancelled until 2022.

How was everyone supposed to now that by 'panto' you meant only the panto in one very specific venue?
