For the love of god, stop testing people!’

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/08/2021 13:13

From an academic point of view I think it's vaguely interesting to see what kinds of background prevalence these diseases have, because you never really know for other respiratory viruses. I don't think it matters in the sense that the vast majority of these 'cases' (in inverted commas as usually a 'case' requires clinical symptoms) are not seriously ill, if at all, as long as society accepts this and doesn't look at it as a metric for restrictions etc. If it's true that over half were under 25 I wouldn't expect this to translate to a significant burden on the health system, and it might even be a good thing as it means immunity is getting topped up.

latissimusdorsi · 24/08/2021 14:15

It's an exit wave.
Scientists have been quite clear this will happen WHENEVER we lift the restrictions we've all been living under.
Hopefully the vaccines are doing their job and hospitalisations won't rise by much

We need to hold our nerve and ride this out

rookiemere · 24/08/2021 14:41

Not been on here for a while but as I have sore throat and bit of a headache decided to do a LF. It's negative but never sure that I'm twiddling the cordon bud far enough up my nose and the back of throat but makes me retch.

Just a shame that these high numbers will translate into another term of disruption for our DCs.

Dissimilitude · 24/08/2021 16:59

@GoldenOmber

England seem to be following a week or two behind us. Bit later with the June/July wave, bit later to see cases start dropping from that, and even though their unlocking came sooner they were a bit later in removing 10-day isolation for contacts. So I reckon they’ll be doing the same as us by end of this week.
I suspect not.

I think what we're seeing is that Scotland's population has more "pristine" members to infect, particularly among the young and vaccine-reluctant, due to more strict controls through earlier waves. I think England has broadly reached the HIT through infection of the unvaccinated.

We shall see, though!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/08/2021 17:18

I tend to agree @Dissimilitude - I think there might be a small upward peak when English schools return, but I suspect that they have pretty much hit equilibrium and the effect won't be massive. It doesn't really matter either way - I'm just curious to see what happens.

Haudyourwheesht · 24/08/2021 19:29

@Haudyourwheesht

They're not really talking about it any more though. When was last time she stood on her wee corona podium?

This aged well. BlushGrin

Haudyourwheesht · 24/08/2021 19:33

I'm hoping that today's briefing and threats were to placate the folk that are still wiping down their shopping, and there are plenty of them.

There will be loads who are saying that she should be putting restrictions in place, or keeping restrictions in place, regardless of vaccines.

Probably not though. She'll be itching to shut pubs again.

runningpink · 24/08/2021 19:55

At what point do we need to reach to be allowed to live again and make our own choices.

It was just lockdown for three weeks, ended up being months. Glasgow areas for a few weeks which needed up being months.
Just need the vulnerable and elderly vaccinated, not been the case.
(Just a few examples)

They keep moving the goalposts and lying to us constantly.

We need to live with this and get on with our lives.
People are affected by mental health and other illnesses which haven’t been diagnosed or delayed treatment etc Enough is enough now

ResilienceWanker · 24/08/2021 20:08

This aged well.

Grin haudyourwheesht Wink

What was the actual point of the briefing today? Was it just to announce the inquiry? Cos a briefing scheduled just to say "I might reimpose restrictions, ye feckers" doesn't really look that useful or worthwhile. We already know that - she's said it before! Just seems a bit of a nothing briefing, really, and do we really need those now we're "beyond tiers"? Though maybe she was offended by us saying we hadn't seen her recently Grin

titsintiers · 24/08/2021 20:15

😆😆😆 @Haudyourwheesht

Got to laugh at something

GoldenOmber · 24/08/2021 20:37

Haudyourwheesht can summon briefings Grin Do you take requests? I want Jonathan Van Tam doing the next one please.

titsintiers · 24/08/2021 20:38

Someone with some actual gravitas @GoldenOmber? What a treat that would be.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/08/2021 20:41

Can i just interject here and say how much better angry runningpink sounds compared to the sad runningpink that we had a few months ago. Not sure if you are actually feeling better or not, and i know you have a few challenges with jobs etc, but you sound a lot less down and more bolshy. I take that as a good thing.

runningpink · 24/08/2021 20:56

@ElephantOfRisk definitely more bolshy but the sadness is very much still there unfortunately. Although not as badly as before.
Going on antidepressants was definitely the right decision and are keeping me from being so overwhelmed by sadness etc

I have ended up losing the person who I thought was my best friend. It’s the lies and sneakiness from her that I’m finding the hardest.
I don’t know why she has done this, only thing I can put it down to is how miserable, negative and how hard I found lockdown etc. It’s not like I struggle on purpose.

I guess between that and the job situation and restrictions still ongoing I’m feeling a bit lost and down and angry at the moment.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/08/2021 21:08

You know what? You can't choose how someone else decides to behave. She wasn't the person you thought she was. Good that you found out and now you can move on. You can only deal with what you can, the job hunt will give you a good focus and remember to be the person you need to be in any interviews even if you don't feel like that person yet. Fake it til you make it Smile The confidence will come back and that will help with feeling better and the happiness will follow. Lots of people care about you and the others struggling in this virtual world, I know I appreciated the support I received and am thankful for everyone who offered a friendly ear.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 21:35

Would you like a dog sitting gig @runningpink? 😃

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 21:48

Sorry, just a joke after a poor evening here

runningpink · 25/08/2021 07:26

Aw @ElephantOfRisk there might be a little something in my eye right now.
Thank you for your lovely words. Your right, The support on Scotsnet has been amazing. Thank you for the mist needed boost.
I will keep plodding on, one day at a time

I am so tired today, tossed and turned all night. Easy day today me. Meeting a friend for an outdoor coffee which will be nice.

Don’t think I would be a very good dog sitter @WouldBeGood. I do like dogs but takes me a while to get used to them

Aurea · 25/08/2021 10:13

Probably should know this (but I haven't been for ages), do you still have to wear masks in hairdressers?__ Really hoping not as my new hairdresser has never actually seen my face to style my hair.

titsintiers · 25/08/2021 10:18

You do at mine @Aurea, pretty unpleasant experience compared to the relaxing experience of a few years ago

Aurea · 25/08/2021 11:19

Thanks tits. At least I'll be prepared for it.

Tomorrowisanewday · 25/08/2021 12:04

Aurea - you do at mine.

And you don't get coffee any more Angry

Rae36 · 25/08/2021 12:20

Last time I was at the hairdresser she told me I could buy a coffee from the shop next door and I didn't need my mask on if I was drinking it. But she couldn't make me a coffee.

titsintiers · 25/08/2021 12:32

It's ridiculous @Rae36 isn't it. Another defeat for common sense.
