I see they have extended flu vaccines for all secondary pupils now.

YeDancer · 08/08/2021 09:28

both I guess, I know some student nurses/doctors so was wondering what it meant for them

latissimusdorsi · 08/08/2021 11:19

@YeDancer

So if we still need to social distance in health care settings, what about health care and medicine courses and students?
Healthcare settings makes sense as surrounded people already sick/immune compromised etc

But this is where the restrictions are crazy and make no sense
Outwit healthcare settings the students will be following whatever the rest of society are
So they are free to go to pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas with hundreds of strangers no social distancing
BUT their university may well be
choosing to only have then in lectures in small groups and 1m distancing and continue with some stuff online
Makes no sense to me🤷🏼‍♀️

Seen in the news that UK health Secretary has asked the competition and markets authority about companies offering PCR tests......... Let's hope that the CMA has some "advice" for the SG who only allow one company at a far greater cost than England!

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 18:45

A lot of this stuff looks a lot like a giant money making ploy

ResilienceWanker · 09/08/2021 11:13

Sounds like Wales has been taking advice from the SG on relaxations that aren't really relaxations! Any hospitality venues/ events wanting to open have to complete a risk assessment that requires they take 'reasonable measures' to minimise exposure to covid. And the guidance document to complete the risk assessment says that the previous restrictions in place up until the relaxations were reasonable measures - and businesses were able to operate with those reasonable measures in place. Ergo the only way to undertake the risk assessment properly is to retain all previous restrictions. Grin

Not sure they've really thought this through...

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 12:43

@ResilienceWanker yep it's frustrating and puts shed load of work onto EHOs!

DH was telling me that although SD, table service and number restrictions was out of covid law, SG had instead put it down to health and safety at work act aka still legislating by the back door/stealth mode to try to keep the control measures with the guidelines recommending them to be examined in the risk assessments.

So all the catchy headlines seem great til businesses and organisations scratch the surface with the guidelines! Angry

Just met someone in the (tiny) office kitchen who was all 'woohoo don't need to wear a mask in the building any more' and here's me wearing my mask whenever I get up from my desk.

I can't see me changing that any time soon - plus I've no earthly idea what the rules say now!

GoldenOmber · 09/08/2021 12:58

Maybe private workplaces get to set their own rules? Mine is definitely “mask if you’re walking around, possibly at your desk too” at the moment but they’re still working out how to get people back in so the at-desks bit might change.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 12:59

I think a lot of people think masks optional now

Grellbunt · 09/08/2021 12:59

Cue private outfits springing up to advise on risk assessments and designing systems - at inflated cost of course!

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 12:59

Which I’m encouraging 😂

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 13:01

@IncludeWomenInThePrequel it's whatever your work risk assessment says unless you're in a health care setting or school so if they have scrapped it then you don't have to but can choose to.

Ssssshhhh. I'm thinking of starting up a sideline... Grin

I thought workplaces were still bound by the regulations brand sparkly new regulations which requires that indoor communal places in workplaces still require masks (not at desks etc if there are partitions or distancing) . The general feeling seems to be that it's just public transport and shops (and healthcare and schools) but it is everywhere that had to wear masks last week! (oh, and they've added nightclubs and sexy entertainment venues into the list which is equitable of them...)

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 14:08

@ResilienceWanker yep sorry was thinking about office settings and keeping distance as then you don't - ours has don't have to wear a mask but have to keep distance in communal settings of it. But still we are only allowed people back in who have a welfare need!

ResilienceWanker · 09/08/2021 15:28

Yes. It's so bloody confusing... You only need to wear a mask in an office if you can't keep a distance, unless the risk assessment says otherwise. Though you shouldn't really be going to workplaces unless you reeeealllly need to so shouldn't need to distance or wear a mask. But you no longer need to distance in a shop, unless the shop risk assessment says you have to, but have to wear a mask anyway, and you can go as many times as you want....

Not sure it's feeling like normal to be honest.

YeDancer · 09/08/2021 20:53

My workplace covid risk assessment is so generic

It says something like "we will make sure covid secure does not disadvantage disabled staff and visitors"

Then the rest of the risk assessment is full of stuff that does disadvantage us disabled people!

sigh

Haudyourwheesht · 09/08/2021 21:25

I could go for dinner with 10 colleagues, visit a couple of pubs, go to a club and have a dance then all fall asleep and bunk up together in the same room.*
Then get up in the morning, go in to work and have to wear masks and keep 1m away from them all. Where is the logic?

(Obviously I won't be doing any of that. I can barely stay awake beyond 9. Grin)

SAS on The Nine at moment being asked why children in schools are being treated differently to rest of society
Talking biggest load of codswallop

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 22:02

It’s quite the gulf..even the usually silent Children’s Commissioner is questioning it

ssd · 09/08/2021 23:29

I noticed more people are bunching up and not bothering with masks on the train home tonight. And all social distancing is scrapped in the shop i work in. A lot of people clearly think being in your face is no problem now.

I think things are going to feel a lot more unsafe to me.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 10/08/2021 08:05

I know what you mean SSD, I'm quite bored of reading on here that 'everyone' is sick of masks and there's no need for any form of restriction any more.

I haven't heard the segment, but children in schools are already different to the "rest of society" as they haven't been offered a vaccine, so of course they might have different mitigations regarding Covid.
