And I broke my Twitter break by reading a message from a friend to say, Twitter is full of folk pontificating about continued mask wearing and judging the protestors, yet going to festivals, sporting events and on holidays themselves. This includes a comedian who called non mask wearers ‘cs but was posting with delight from Latitude this weekend- totally missing the point that events like that can only go ahead because people have been fighting for their sectors, questioning government control and decisions.

If we don’t keep questioning, we’re doomed even though I think we’re already doomed in Scotland for many other reasons.

ResilienceWanker · 27/07/2021 11:46

Good rail bytheloch!

I’ve stopped wearing to go into public toilets (where many still have cubicles and basins not for use, causes queues inside the toilets ffs!)
My small act of rebellion was to use the "this sink is not in use" sink in IKEA last week. It was in use - they'd just put a blob on the floor telling you not to use it. There was no one else there. I FELT GOOOOODDDD. Grin ( I think I need to work my way up the civil disobedience spectrum quite slowly... Blush)

Bytheloch · 27/07/2021 11:59

I’ve never been so disobedient in my life @ResilienceWanker this has completely changed me. I’m a litter-picker, former school councillor type, but I have found an inner strength over this (influenced by other life events, no doubt). I have full respect for teachers, shop workers, frontline NHS workers (not the bloated management who got to work from home and claim discounted pizzas alongside the claps/pan banging) logistics teams, police etc, etc.
Anyone else who’s continually worked, put others first and every other good element of society. So many of us feel that way, but it’s too much now life really has to go on and also for so many that’s with terminal illnesses or prohibitive health conditions, mental health damage…so no more silly willy wanging from politicians or control over which fucking hand basin we can use to wash our hands.

Probably should be on the enough is enough thread today. I’m feeling it. I blame Twitter🤣

WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 12:08

Prof Balloux is great on Twitter today @Bytheloch

@bytheloch oh you summed up a lot of my feelings perfectly!

We are so looking forward to our trip to England and a normal wedding with dancing, ability to leave the table sat at and not being dictated to! I mean I doubt I will have the energy to dance but I can't wait to see DS 2 be able to take to the dance for with DH or his granny!

I think many have got so used to restrictions up here that it now seems normal which is a scary thought! I think like everything in life people have to get back to doing what they are comfortable with! I'm not going to go to a nightclub not my cup of tea but would love to go to a comedy gig inside with the vibe that a full venue offers!

Isn't the next announcement next Tuesday, the 3rd?

WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 12:24

There does seem to be an update this afternoon @IncludeWomenInThePrequel

Apparently today. Like those v.annoying pre meeting, meetings that have crept into workplace culture over recent years. Hope it’s of value and relevant to lifting remaining restrictions, or it’s a complete waste of airtime🤷‍♀️

unless it’s to congratulate team GB on their success in Japan?

Bytheloch · 27/07/2021 12:31

@WouldBeGood Prof Balloux👍🏼

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 27/07/2021 12:34

Oh right! Why don't they properly announce things on the ScotGov Twitter account? So annoying.

Bytheloch · 27/07/2021 12:43

Updates from NS own account, which shouldn’t be the case when it’s government business, but I doubt anyone is brave enough to tell her, anyone who disagrees in the slightest is usually blocked.

She's (quite rightly) been given a hammering about announcing stuff to the media/population before giving any info in holyrood so i suspect that may have an impact on timings?

Who knows. I enjoyed the article in the Scotsman yesterday talking about the first 100 days of the new parliament.

WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 12:53

Was it saying what a glorious success it’s been @ElephantOfRisk?

Funnily enough, no @WouldBeGood

I can't see the party faithful being happy with the way things are either, i think her coat is on a very shoogly peg.

😂 Definitely agree with the squirrel commentary! It's like look over there Tories Westminster (whilst we ignore a police investigation on finances, wasted money on judicial reviews unwinnable or ministers "fact" spouting which turns out to be lies)
WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 13:07

That actually seems pretty fair @ElephantOfRisk.

I’m still waiting for our free laptop and bike too

She's just said on her twitter that she'll be giving a covid update later on TV. Why do you have a problem with that?

ElephantOfRisk · 27/07/2021 13:12

"😂 Definitely agree with the squirrel commentary! "

Yes, DH and I have been messaging back and forward with squirrel comments since.

WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 13:16

Surely it’s a magpie..?

I'm just glad it's not interrupting my Olympics watching on the BBC far prefer to see what team GB is up to then listen to another lecture! 😂 Thankfully DH has a work meeting so don't need to put it on for his work!

ElephantOfRisk · 27/07/2021 13:24

I didn't even know the olympics was on until yesterday. None of us watch tv and just not been paying attention.

WouldBeGood · 27/07/2021 13:24

I saw a thing on Twitter describing it as like watching televised PE- sums up my feelings on it 😂

Written by a former Tory and Brexit Party representative. I'd be more worried if they agreed with the FM's actions.
IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 27/07/2021 13:27

God but I hate the Olympics. It totally is televised gym. I remember interminable summers from the 80s filled with weeks of quietly plodding coverage.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 27/07/2021 13:30

We're not due any decisions so I do wonder what the point of today's address is. Numbers looking much more encouraging, but she's not going to break with tradition and commit to anything now (and therefore give more than a week's notice).

I wonder if she'll address the much-better-than-expected infection levels in England right now, having implied that it was reckless to have a 'wholesale abandoning of restrictions'. Although probably not, as this might mean conceding that England/Boris might have actually made a reasonable choice and we can't have that. Maybe a bit of doom-mongering about how we still need to be careful because COVID hasn't gone away because it never will , long COVID etc. etc.

Or maybe it'll be to counter media reports that they've missed vaccine targets for the over 40s. Can't have the SG being presented in a negative light.
