The SNP also hold the purse strings to the entire Scottish Government budget. Am I being foolish to think that this might be of concern, and to wonder why it is not front page news in the Scottish press?

Police Scotland have confirmed a criminal investigation is now underway into potential criminality involving fundraising by the SNP.

UmpteenthTime · 13/07/2021 13:41

Yes, I heard this on the 1pm news on BBC Radio 2 so at least it’s being given some prominence.

Bytheloch · 13/07/2021 14:14

Look over there, a squirrel...it’s today’s covid announcement, which should keep everyone busy away from this other story

@ElephantOfRisk

Has the money just been "resting" in an account? Just like in Father Ted.
"Graham Linehan is a horrible bigot, and the money was just resting in my account"

I think that this is a very good idea.

Surely with over half a million allegedly missing there should be people on gardening leave till the investigation is complete

This would certainly happen in business

I don't get the impression that the money has been misappropriated as such. I mean I don't think Nicola and Pete have transferred money to themselves or hidden it or spent it on holidays, booze and fags.

My limited understanding is that the party specifically raised this money for indyref2 and the understanding from those donating was that it wasn't for general party funds or for election campaigns, it was to be ring-fenced and used for that specific purpose. And the money is not now sitting there available for indyref as it's been used for other things ( i think specifically to repay a loan which was used for election campaigns as far as I know).

So the fraud element is that the money collected wasn't used for the purpose those intended were told.

SNP stance is that £600+K will be used in the campaign and that money will come from other donations rather than from another specific indyref fundraiser so why does it matter?

It matters because once again lies and obfuscation etc reigns once again and it matters to those looking for indyref to happen sooner rather than later as there is no money in the pot for it when it should be sitting there.

As far as i understand, membership has fallen so it may take a while to build up that pot unless a rich benefactor gives or lends then the money again.

It just shows the disregard in the way that they deal with their own supporters never mind how they treat the rest of the electorate.

Nothing will happen of course but with any luck they lose a bit more of their support.

It should, but it won’t because the SNP and wee Nippy and her crew are a law unto themselves. They treat the scottish people and who especially like dirt and it’s catching up with them now. Like the lack of accountability in the GRC , the money paid to Stonewall, this money issue, Mhari Black and the drag queen in a primary school library , the hate bill, and many other things that will still come out! The whole thing stinks and, like fish, it rots from the head down.
Cabinfever10 · 14/07/2021 00:04

@Rhannion
You're forgetting Marion Miller is in court on Monday and is being defended by Joanne Cherry.
I can't wait to see wee nippy explain that away especially when JC wipes the floor with the procurator fiscal Grin

I wonder what specialist resources Police Scotland have to investigate this? Forensic accountants? It’s not something your average detective could investigate surely.
