The SNP also hold the purse strings to the entire Scottish Government budget. Am I being foolish to think that this might be of concern, and to wonder why it is not front page news in the Scottish press?

That’s interesting, thanks @Ianrankinfan.

Wonder if the police are going to look into it?

I think it is just corruption fatigue. After the whole Alex Salmond thing, the actions of the Crown office (and the revelation that they're essentially in Sturgeon's pocket), it just feels like the latest dodgy/possibly illegal thing about the SNP rather than a shocking bombshell. That in itself is really depressing - the things they get away with because the Indy-supporting half of Scotland will always vote for them literally no matter what they do, and the judiciary don't have enough independence to prosecute when things get awkward. They truly are untouchable and I suspect they know it.

MaMelon · 01/06/2021 09:26

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us - spot on.

The resignation of Joanna Cherry was on the U.K. BBC news last night. I eagerly awaited a more in-depth report on the Scottish News that followed... not a dicky bird. Absolutely shocking. Seriously undermined my trust in BBC Scotland. How could they NOT have covered this and the previous resignation of the Treasurer a day earlier? They must have consciously sat down in a production meeting and have taken a decision to not cover this news. Why? Who editorially deemed this news not to be newsworthy? News that absolutely affects the Scottish Government and it’s citizens. Important news. And it’s not as if it was a busy news day. They always find time for the f*king football!

Does anyone know if STV covered it?

bunnybutts · 01/06/2021 10:57

Hearing rumours they may be close to insolvency. They can't even organise the finances of a political party. How do they expect people to vote for them to run an independent Scotland?

dementedma · 01/06/2021 11:17

Joanna Cherry gone now. This stinks

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/06/2021 11:31

600K pushes them to insolvency? Really?

RaspberryCoulis · 01/06/2021 12:29

I think there's little traffic on this thread because we have heard it all before - this "lack of transparency" is nothing new. All the "I don't remember" over the Salmond fiasco. The SNP MP who defrauded some indy campaign. The woman who was up in court (Natalie someone?) for being on the fiddle. Covid Maggie and her wee trip north on the train.

Sturgeon is accountable to Murrell and Murrell is accountable to Sturgeon. They're heading up a corrupt party which can't keep its finances or members under control, and get away with it because ... well I don't know why more people aren't asking the questions.

Rotten to the very core.

Agree with PP ,its no surprise, given what has gone before,Run by a small cabal, and suffer no criticism

Scottishskifun · 01/06/2021 13:23

I'm sure any questions about it all will get shot down tomorrow with look at WM and I'm "getting on with the job of the pandemic".

FM question time bingo anyone?

MaMelon · 01/06/2021 13:27

FM question time bingo anyone?

I’m up for that! So:

Boris/the Tories are worse
I’m focused on getting Scotland through the pandemic
The people of Scotland will judge us
Nothing going on to my knowledge
If Police Scotland decide there’s a case they will have my full support

Something like that?

ElephantOfRisk · 01/06/2021 13:40

I'm sure there was an article on wings that seemed to work out that the money had gone to repay loans from that millionaire couple who supported them?

I'll see if I can find it, and yes, I know.....

ElephantOfRisk · 01/06/2021 13:46

This is the one I was thinking of:

This is also interesting but might be covered in the above:

Scottishskifun · 01/06/2021 13:51

Haha think you have quite a lot of them.

Would add
we are fully transparent
Accounts are audited
Thank them for their hard work (said through gritted teeth)

MaMelon · 01/06/2021 13:53

Yep - definitely those too Grin

RaspberryCoulis · 01/06/2021 13:59

So basically (and I feel a bit dirty after reading a Wings blog) - there was a site raising funds for an Independence Referendum, and ring-fenced for that purpose.

Site was closed with no notice at which point it had raised £500k. Nobody will say where this money has gone, but there is suspicion that it was used to pay off a loan.

Murky.

ElephantOfRisk · 01/06/2021 14:07

So the interweaving could be that we repaid the loan and just expect that they'll lend us it back again as and when required maybe? Though I thought I read somewhere that Mrs Lottery winner had fallen out of love with them and Mr died? And didn't leave them anything in his will?

I read so much pre election that I fully accept that all that might be made up.

RaspberryCoulis · 01/06/2021 14:10

Mr Lottery Winner most definitely did not leave them one penny in his will.

Read into that what you will.

HirplesWithHaggis · 01/06/2021 14:50

I imagine the people winding up the estate of the late Colin Weir required the loan be repaid.

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 15:40

Repaying the loan is fine. Loans SHOULD be repaid.

The issue is effectively stealing money ring fenced for another purpose..

Bytheloch · 01/06/2021 15:55

@WouldBeGood

“I haven’t seen those comments on social media so I can’t be expected to comment”
Exactly🤷‍♀️

And on here, we’ll have those who defend EVERYTHING that in the real world would be wrong with their governance etc.
Look at the storm around Boris’s GF perhaps influencing a bit too much. Yet here, we have missing money, husband and CO gone AWOL, no accountability. I’m fed up with it all.
More deflection today by ‘telting’ Boris how to manage the restrictions. All a precursor to ‘blaming the English’ for a further spread this summer. It’s all so predictable.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 01/06/2021 16:00

Stunned that a QC hung in there for so long tbh.

Looking forward to financial transparency at the same moment as the education report gets published Hmm

MaMelon · 01/06/2021 16:02

Ahhh, but we now have Swinney in charge of our covid recovery so it’s all going to be dandy.
