Well, Douglas Ross likes to moan about it, but he's so ineffective and marginalised that he may as well not bother. I think Anas Sarwar is basically on board with the government's approach (although he strikes me as a man who doesn't really hold strong beliefs about much so that's really a guess).

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/06/2021 12:16

I think the biggest difference is that there is much more of a questioning culture at Westminster, even when the government has a large majority such as now. Back bench rebellions are a common thing and it does mean that the government is forced to consider a bigger range of views in their decision making. I genuinely don't think Boris would get away with anything other than a 'pause' for a few weeks in terms of opening up completely. The SG, by contrast, tolerates no dissention whatsoever so whatever Nicola says, goes, and she can essentially do whatever she wants (or judges 'safe') for as long as she wants and there's little that will be done about it.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 10/06/2021 12:24

I think it's partially a numbers thing too. With more than 350 MPs, you're going to have a wider range of views and beliefs to deal with, plus many many more decades of legacy, loyalty, partisanship etc.

Pootle40 · 10/06/2021 12:55

@rookiemere

You're lucky *@Pootle40* we're meant to be going to Majorca last week of summer holidays- returning on the Saturday when they are back to school on the Monday.

Even if it turns Green I'm not sure I'm prepared to risk T&T from the traveling and it would be a bit of an own goal for DS to miss the first week of S4.

That's a shame. I've not booked yet but hoping we can and just lucky we both wfh and it's early In the holidays. Boys know they would be confined to house and garden for 10 days but we all think it would be worth it to get away from here.

We had been due to go to Jersey which we did last year but it's more difficult to get in there than Majorca (go figure!)

rookiemere · 10/06/2021 13:00

@Pootle40 we have a nice looking back up plan near Oban so it will be fine, but we need to agree our approach with the other family and as an innate people pleaser I'm finding it hard. Plus I'd like to keep the dream going as long as possible as well , but I have reached the point that if thinking about a holiday is stressing me out so much, then I probably shouldn't be going, particularly as we can back out now with no financial repercussions.

DH and I have got Jersey booked for a weekend in October- keeping my fingers crossed as it looks lovely.

Scottishskifun · 10/06/2021 13:36

@SoMuchForSummerLove but there is a difference between urging and strong guidance and being prohibited that for me is the difference.
In Scotland if a high level it becomes prohibited! OK liklihood of anything happening unless you are having a house party is slim but it's the social connotations with it as well.

Thanks @dancemom numbers are looking a bit better today especially for mid week!

Anyone else get the feeling that NS is waiting for BS next move?!
It seems to have gone a bit quiet!

latissimusdorsi · 10/06/2021 15:42

It's circulating in schools at moment in Lothians so hopefully we'll see big drop in cases in 3 weeks time

Ladylunchalot · 10/06/2021 17:29

@WouldBeGood

My point is that they’ve told us vaccines work. The vulnerable are vaccinated. Yet restrictions remain.

It makes no sense.

I totally agree with you however dh is immunosuppressed and it's still not known how effective the vaccines have been with this group. I'm not convinced that the vaccines will offer much protection going on past experience with how his body reacts, hoping I'm wrong though.
itsjustlowhangingfruit · 10/06/2021 18:46

we want to go somewhere for a weekend with young teen DD but where. She's scared of roller coasters (heights) and isn't sporty or into camping. Would love to go abroad but won't risk it. Center parcs extortionate, especially if you can't really use the pool. And I think DD too old for it now anyway. So where else is good?

WouldBeGood · 10/06/2021 18:53

London @itsjustlowhangingfruit. Loads of stuff to do with teenagers. And nice parks for chilling if it’s warm and you need a break. I’ve been loads with mine. We always stay at the Premier inn at St Pancras so can just walk there off the Euston train from Glasgow and get the tube into town.

itsjustlowhangingfruit · 10/06/2021 18:57

DH and I are already going to London though, just ourselves, to see Hamilton musical, DD isn't into musicals so won't be coming. Not sure about going to London twice!

What about Loch Muick area? Loads of water activities including paddle boarding.

Or there is up by Findhorn there is also a centre not far which does white water rafting or tubing. My nephew loves the tubing!

Pitlochry also has a lot of water activities

RedactedTaeFeck · 10/06/2021 21:26

City break a good idea, Liverpool is also great. Booking anywhere in the Lake District is good, plenty to do with teens, horseriding, karting, archery, water stuff, boat trips, lovely drives, cafés, forest walks and crazy golf etc

Pootle40 · 10/06/2021 22:37

Saw this on another thread. Are Scotland following suit ? God knows why we've not always done this anyway?!

WouldBeGood · 10/06/2021 23:01

They should do @Pootle40. Only 16 months in for all this shit.

titsintiers · 11/06/2021 06:40

I should hope so, although why it hasn't been done so far is an absolute mystery.

dancemom · 11/06/2021 14:11

• 1,104* new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 28,563 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
â—¦ 4.1% of these were positive
• 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 13 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 132 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 3,459,063 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,375,246 have received their second dose

  • Please note that Public Health Scotland are aware of a change in the laboratory processing of specimens in the Glasgow Lighthouse lab on 10/06/21, which has resulted in slower processing. This change resulted in yesterday’s reported figures being lower than otherwise might be expected by approximately 150-200 positive cases.

And now all we actually need to know is how many of those 132 were required to be admitted to hospital due to Covid rather than of no significance whatsoever as otherwise you can't actually see if the link between infection and hospitalisation is broken.

I will keep being a broken record until that day.

Having to cancel holiday to Jersey because it considers all of Scotland 'red' now so even though in common travel area it would require 10 days isolation and multiple tests on arrival. Most of England remains green in their assessment.

Pootle40 · 11/06/2021 14:35

Roll on school holidays as surely a symptomatic kids who are not ill are making up a lot of the numbers and young adults socialising again. The Indian variant is a ruse.....surely it's just a result of the socialisation of the unvaccinated

Coquohvan · 11/06/2021 19:50

Agree @Pootle40 you can see where the majority of cases are. Schools closing and getting the young ones jabbed will lesson the cases. Looks like vaccines are holding up well little breakthrough to serious illness/ deaths.
SG are playing smoke and mirrors with us now.
And yes re case counting follow UK

Just saw in the news that there are around 1000 pupils and 100 teachers isolating in Dundee alone! Absolutely crazy. And pretty depressing.

Pootle40 · 12/06/2021 13:28

Anyone know if it's possible to bring forward a 2nd dose or just turn up?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 12/06/2021 13:44

The ads I've seen on our health board Facebook say you can walk in if it's 10 weeks past your first vaccine.
