Is a hypocrite.

Boris will be 'picking a fight with the democratic wishes of the Scottish people' and ' the only people that can decide the future of Scotland are the Scottish people'

Forgive me if i'm being stupid but didn't we already have a vote on independence, how did that go. Oh that's right......not how NS wanted so she ignores the democratic wishes of the Scottish people and pushes for Indy 2.

Laughable how she comes out with this stuff.

But we can find professors with similarly impressive CVs that disagree with Richard Murphy. How do you square that Starry?

SteveArnottsCodeine · 11/05/2021 21:01

I’m English and live in England so please, feel free to tell me go duck off, but my understanding of the situation was that post-Brexit this union isn’t what you were promised, so another referendum is justifiable and I tend to agree (on your behalf, not on ours). But I did vote remain myself so my view on this may be being coloured by that.

That's life. You look at the evidence and you weigh it up. Who do you trust? Which expert seems most expert to you.

Great username Grin

Well exactly @forfucksakenett. That was my point. Just saying that because someone is a professor or has an economics degree then they must be right is foolhardy. Listen to what they are actually saying rather than just assuming they are right.

Richard Murphy is a fan of MMT also known as the cult of the magic money tree. You can guess what my opinion of him is.

PhoenixandtheRug · 11/05/2021 21:15

I admit I'm rooting for Scottish independence for selfish reasons....I think it will help the Irish reunification cause. But also a few a good and very wise friends in Scotland are pro-Indy.

The union has NEVER been equal. Here in the North of Ireland we have unionists speaking now of making this place a warm home for Catholics/nationalists. They never bothered their heads when they had the British government colluding with loyalist murder gangs and enforcing internment and gerrymandering. But now it looks like unionism is in the minority they're all for selling the crappy union.🙄 Yeah, no.

Hmmm but the only person on this thread who has been rude and dismissive is you. Perhaps you should practice what you preach?

There will be a multitude of views. There has to be an acceptance of that.

Of course someone having a degree in economics won't always be 'right' whatever that may mean but I think it's sensible to value their opinion and consider it rather than be rude or dismissive.

I'm not sure what your area of education or expertise is but I'm pretty sure you'd be a bit offended if someone spoke to you about that the way you have to Starry on this thread. It's very arrogant.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:29

Practice what I preach? I have listened to starry and weighed up what has been said and found it to be wanting time and time again.

I'm furious with the misinformation that keeps being trotted out and I've had enough. So sorry if you think I'm rude, but I really don't care.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:31

And if you're talking about being rude I wasn't the one that got deleted for calling someone a shitty person.

forfucksakenett · 11/05/2021 21:40

Well to be fair some of the things you have written were really rude. Looks like one of your posts is deleted too so who knows what's been said.

forfucksakenett · 11/05/2021 21:41

And also misinformation and information that you don't like / don't agree with are two different things.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:42

My post that was deleted was "tut tut, plagiarism" which I'm sure some people saw and can verify.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:43

When I can show it to be patently untrue it is misinformation.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 21:44

I wrote a post which finished with 'I can try and find an article on this if people are interested '. And then posted said article.

You then wrote 'plagiarism'.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:44

And there's a difference between rudeness and personal attacks.

By the way you never replied to me on that other thread when I pointed out your hypocrisy in being rude to another poster.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 21:48

Graffiti give it a rest. I'm sure this is hugely annoying for everyone else

forfucksakenett · 11/05/2021 21:51

@Graffitiqueen what other thread? You'll need to jog my memory.

I'm pretty sure accusing someone (incorrectly) of plagiarism is a personal attack.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:55

Not quite in the same category as calling someone a shittyperson though is it?

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 21:56

Again I do not care what anyone else thinks. If people would stop posting misinformation then I'd have nothing to get angry about would I?
forfucksakenett · 11/05/2021 21:58

Erm yeah I would say it was to be honest but insults are subjective of course. Plagiarism is a pretty awful thing to be accused of.

We'll have to agree to disagree then.
charliebrown59 · 11/05/2021 22:06

It isn't pick your favourite expert though when it comes to important questions, unless you are not interested in the truth - you have to test your own bias as well as that of the source you're reading if you aren't simply wanting a particular answer.

Polls have shown that many independence supporters 'don't believe' economic facts such as GERS stats collected by the Scottish government.

If you believe in indy for political reasons, that's valid isn't it? If independence is primarily a political stance, then why try and deny economic costs/downsides?

Just here to say I agree op.

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 22:34

@SteveArnottsCodeine sadly we’d be very unlikely to get into the EU. It wouldn’t be possible under the current SNP plan of using the pound as we would not have control of our currency.

If we were ever able to scrape together the billions needed to set up a currency it would come with austerity and difficult to meet economic requirements, as well as a hard border with England which would be economically and practically horrendous.

It’s a pipe dream.
