Sounds like a sound bite to me.
Not sure how it would work in rural schools where kids are already up at the crack of dawn for school transport. Some schools have tackled this issue by giving out free breakfast bars at the beginning of the school day for those that need them but will suppliers need to tender for a nationwide contract? Or will community food groups be tasked with it? Will canteens be supplying food? More likely a certain amount of cash and the schools need to work it out themselves.
I know of lots of schools where teachers come in very early voluntarily to help with breakfast clubs, some schools do it by rota. But not all schools will have enough staff who can commit that time with their own caring responsibilities.
On a different topic when are the parties going to publish their sodding manifestos!?How are postal voters going to have time to compare them at this rate?

Free fish supper with every vote?
WouldBeGood · 08/04/2021 18:18

Free fish supper with every approved vote.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:42

Had a moan about this on another thread but why is Ruth Davidson fronting Douglas Toss's campaign?

It's really irritating me. Not quite sure why.

Protecting women's rights is not transphobic – Kenny MacAskill MP in today's Scotsman. With a promise..."be under no illusion, this will become an election issue as the absurdities caused by recent identity politics come to be understood." Let's hope. Here's the article: www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/protecting-womens-rights-is-not-transphobic-kenny-macaskill-mp-3191311#disqus-comment-section

Blurberoo · 08/04/2021 18:57

@sessell Good on Kenny. Given it’s such an important issue this election it’s nuts that there’s been virtually no political debate or discussion about it.

Ianrankinfan · 08/04/2021 19:09

Where are the SNP getting the money ?

Maybe from here ?..
The institute of Fiscal Studies said that the SNP have used short lived Covid funding to pay for a raft of pre election giveaways , storing up future problems.

You can read the full article on the IFS website .March 31st

Nothing ever becomes an election issue though, except poverty, or specifically child poverty, which apparently the SNP are going to solve if only we elect them for another hundred years. Although at the moment its obviously still all the fault of the English. etc., etc..

riverrunning · 08/04/2021 20:40

As well as the elephant in the room of 'free' breakfasts being only temporarily funded by SNP sleight of hand, child poverty isn't the real goal, breakfast club childcare mostly helps two parents working families.

Child poverty is hugely related to housing costs in cities - much harder to fix and not a huge vote winner.

I wonder about the quality of the food too - pre frozen sliced bread and unbranded cereal like the shielding boxes here?

Itwasjustresting · 08/04/2021 21:01

@Blurberoo

Has anyone seen this thing? Total trolling of feminists by the SNP shop!
Fuck me, that’s cringeworthy.

Cos she's more appealing than he is, and they know it. I suspect there was a resounding "oh bollocks" in Tory party HQ when she quit as (a bit like Sturgeon and the SNP) to me there was no obvious successors

If it's going to be free breakfast clubs including childcare then that'll be another painful nail in the coffin for a few childcare providers. Quite a few after school clubs also run breakfast clubs, and after lockdown huge numbers of out of school care providers are on their knees. But I would put money on this being a reinvented wheel rather than using existing providers and adding new where needed
WouldBeGood · 08/04/2021 22:48

I’d be very surprised if this “promise” on breakfast comes to anything. More ill thought through bribery

Graffitiqueen · 09/04/2021 10:49

Have to say I like what Sarwar is trying to do. Running an entirely positive campaign is a bit of a breath of fresh air and smart trying to move away from constitutional issues. Certainly contrasts with the SNP's weird PPB.

WouldBeGood · 09/04/2021 10:51

@Graffitiqueen I agree. His leaflet through the door was a breath of fresh air. Focussing on moving forward and actual policies.

annabelindajane · 09/04/2021 11:03

The Times had an article yesterday on one of the key SNP election pledges to increase NHS activity by 10 pc within a year. Labour is pledging to put a mental health worker in every GP surgery .
A poll of more than 900 doctors in Scotland by BMA said they did not clearly understand the long term vision for the health service nor where they were going to get the staff to facilitate above .

riverrunning · 09/04/2021 11:28

I'm liking Sarwar's more in common style of campaigning too, a real return to proper non divisive labour politics.

Yes, agree. If only he could have been in place sooner🤷‍♀️
Itwasjustresting · 09/04/2021 15:23

Campaigning suspended during the official period of mourning for HRH. Wonder if that helps or hinders Alba?

Blurberoo · 09/04/2021 15:50

Argh no campaigning, no manifestos, very few debates, this doesn’t seem like a proper democratic process! I get that protocol demands a period of mourning, but it doesn’t feel like voters are going to be fully informed before making their choices.
