Thank you dancemom I was just about to look up today's figures. I wonder why the number of reported tests jumps around so much?

fluffyugg · 26/03/2021 14:20

According to BBC news article today Scotland does have the biggest rise in recent cases

Tieriffic or tierifying ... who knows!
UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 14:20

I think there are small local testing centres that aren't open every day of the week, that probably accounts for some of the unevenness.

speedtalker · 26/03/2021 14:26

@UnderHisAye I think for a significant no. of yes voters independence is a principle. Full stop. I think for most no voters, it's more a practical thing, and a bit like getting a divorce from someone you don't hate but have been married to for decades and get on well enough with.
But, there's an important minority who could be swayed. Even I, who would always think I would be no- when Boris was voted in I thought 'that's it, union splitting up', and I felt the disdain the old Tory guard had for the general public in letting him be PM pissed me off to the point that I think if there had been a referendum I might have voted yes. I hate everything he represents- the very worst of English entitlement.

So I do think current events change things. Interesting that Salmond has started up his own party. Wasn't there an election where the SNP box was changed quite close to the election to read 'Alex Salmond for SNP' in a very presidential manner? He was such a personality to bank on for the party. (Wasn't that the election when it was the same day as the local elections and the different styles of voting confused thousands of people and there were lots of spoiled votes? I was so angry at that)

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 14:26

Everywhere in the UK has it at a low level hence every time it pops up on the genomic testing they have sent in localised testing. I guess I was following variant stories for a while.

Honestly it's not worth the stress.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 14:27

Yeah, I was just checking and apparently there are (or have been, it's a bit unclear) 22 cases in Scotland.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 14:29

22 that were tested for Covid and furthermore came up in the random sampling for genomic analysis.

Didn't Alex Salmond say that he didn't think Scotland was suitable for independence right now? So he is possibly and somewhat ironically against independence at the moment.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 14:30

I guess the swayable minority are the element that changes the polls @speedtalker

When the Scottish government were perceived to be handling the pandemic better, polls swung towards yes, with the vaccine rollout I see some swinging back to no.

I can't imagine voting for Alex Salmond now; he's now a self-confessed sex pest, but too many people are willing to ignore stuff like that. The indy at all costs contingent.

How you feel about BJ is also my main problem: the thing is, that is unlikely to change in England in the near-mid future, so that leaves me thinking that, unable to influence things, the best thing to do is cut ties. I'm ideologically too opposed to much of what they represent.

PostieModern · 26/03/2021 14:30

@StarryEyeSurprise

So.. I've just been reading the AZ vaccine doesn't work against a SA variant which currently accounts for ten per cent of the cases in France ( and rising). Despite this, Johnson's refusing to put restrictions on movement from France. Aargh!
It looks as through cases of the SA / Brazilian variants have stabilised (or slightly reduced) at just under 5% according to the French public health agency. Still worrying but maybe slightly less so
speedtalker · 26/03/2021 14:33

I don't recall, he's saying now he wants a 'supermajority for independence!'

So, if he's got people standing in the regional seats, if they get x no votes (whatever threshold that is), then they're in? So might they split the SNP vote there and potentially do harm? Realistically, that's where he'll scoop votes from, surely?

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 14:37

He must be trying to harness the faction that are dismayed by the loss of Joanna Cherry etc.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 14:47

On another note: it's fucking snowing.

Just in time for a nice Easter picnic, freezing our arses off while we pretend to enjoy ourselves.

😂 😂 😂 😂 You just made me laugh a lot and with covid causing my chest to feel like it's on fire and breathing isn't great that's an achievement!

Oh and no wasn't caught from rule breaking positive case in DS nursery who passed it on to us my contact list involved the very exciting walk to nursery and that's it.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 15:30

Sleet and blustery wind here. I'm meant to be getting fitter by walking.HmmGrin

hilbil21 · 26/03/2021 15:35

I've just made the decision to buy a gazebo so I can have people round. We live basically on the banks of the clyde so could be interesting with wind but will see how we get on Grin

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 15:46

Ooh a gazebo. I may be jealous or feeling you are foolhardy, I'm wavering😅.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 15:49

That really sucks @Scottishskifun how are you feeling?

We live near the top of a steep hill so I think a gazebo would be a huge mistake, it'd be like Up but with less balloons and more screaming.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 15:50

I'm remembering the hurricane and the trampolines going rogue..

hilbil21 · 26/03/2021 15:57

@LookAChicken I was umming and ahhing but knowing my luck if I had left it much longer they would all be sold out Hmm

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 16:00

That's so true I am constantly missing out because i can't make up my mind!

I'll get one in 2022 when everyone else leaves these shores for the balearics..

Scottishskifun · 26/03/2021 16:40

@UnderHisAye not brilliant already had to call NHS 24 and been put into steroid treatment to try and help with breathing as the covid is irritating my usually well controlled asthma.

Thankfully DS (2) is happily dancing about and DH says he has a head cold but that's it. Meanwhile I can't walk to the bathroom without getting out of breathe.

Said on another thread it's all pot luck and I seem to be on the moderate side hoping to avoid the serious side.
Still wouldn't change me sending my DS to nursery even though I currently feel horrific.

Very glad I bought an oximeter though as it means I can monitor my Sat's myself and get DH to call NHS 24 if things get worse.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 16:42

Glad you are getting some treatment via the steroids and have an oximeter Scottishskifun.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 16:43

Keep as well rested as possible.x

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 17:16

I see Joanna Cherry has joined Salmond's Alba party.
