They were not allowed to pass on items without quarantining them.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 11:16

That's crazy isn't it? Why not just quarantine any used donations? Although I guess that brings up issues of space etc. But still; doesn't really seem like something that needs to be covered by legislation.

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/03/2021 11:19

We work with FARE and I've dropped a lot off with Refuweegee but I guess it's up to the charity if they feel comfortable or otherwise with that.

It's a shame @wouldbegood's friend thinks she might be arrested and has to sneak around. With FARE, for example, they were actually on the news for their good work- collecting donations and dropping them off to grateful recipients.

People need all the help they can get at the moment, don't they?

Bytheloch · 26/03/2021 11:28

@StarryEyeSurprise

I'm quite sure I read that the candidate who was out with NS is a refugee and if she wins, will be the first to become an MSP. I'm away to try and find out more.
My point was about being outwith council areas for the purpose of electioneering. It applies to all candidates, but the stay at home message has been delivered by the FM for the last 300 years or so it feels, so just interested why the rules are different for work that could be done from home- e.g. supporting a candidate?
LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 11:36

Rules are for minions.

Good catchphrase, I'll use that.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 11:37

Well for starters they were outside meeting people.

Also it was to highlight the fact that this year refugees can vote in the Holyrood elections, to encourage people to register by the deadline.

I think that's a pretty good thing to highlight, the media want engaging images if they're to run a story, and moaning about her being outside in this instance is very peevish.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 11:39

But if it's across state lines!Wink

Bytheloch · 26/03/2021 11:40

Again, outside her council area boundaries, which we’re not allowed to do.

We’re all allowed to go outside.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 11:41

I cross state lines every day to go to work. And my work is in no way interesting or important. What's the big deal? Look at the roads, people are travelling. People all over this thread are going 'fuck it I'll go where I want'.

But NS wants to travel for work and it's all this minions crap. It's so old, all this.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 11:43

Oh dear. Maybe find something more interesting to read then?

Bytheloch · 26/03/2021 11:44

So the solution is to organise a press event in order to see my friend outside in the street, but resides in the Glasgow City Council Covid Area whilst I am in the Stirling Council Covid Area.
I’m away to try and find out more.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 11:48

What is essential travel? Is one of those how long is a piece of string questions.

It's a good example too of the level of complication for the population in abiding in the UK by "the rules" I can see why people are pushing it tbh if they feel there is low risk, such as being outdoors or visiting non mixing family.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 11:56

Self-own of a post there Grin
ResilienceWanker · 26/03/2021 12:02

@UnderHisAye

That's what I thought, bring it on you absolute straw-haired rocket. Grin
Just pointing out some personal, appearance related abuse to someone who isn't NS there... Wink Don't think that's really fair, even if he hasn't been able to get a haircut since December.

Also, and a genuine question - is NS still FM? She was captioned as "leader, SNP" on the news last night, but I thought that, this year (cos covid) she was still FM. Also, I'd forgotten how tedious it is getting ALL the party leaders to make comments on a news item (think it was the NHS pay thing). Even Patrick Harvie and Willie Rennie, who seemed to be on one of those enormous deckchairs that makes you look tiny. He's not learnt anything about good optics really since the pig thing, has he?!

I think campaigning is one of those things that can't really be done from home, so I'm easy about politicians doing it, as long as they don't try to attract crowds for speeches/ selfies etc. And it's fair game for party leaders to turn up in marginal seats... though, again, if they're not allowed to summon the masses to hear them, I do kind of wonder about the point.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 12:04

I wonder what the point is too.

We are in the middle of a pandemic where many other public services seem to have given up and home home.Hmm

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 12:05

..gone home..

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 12:07

I'm not on board with this pointless election as a priority for the country.

Interesting that they didn't bother with a census in Scotland unlike England and Wales. Not sure about NI.

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 12:16

You think elections are pointless? How do you expect a democracy to run if people aren't given the chance to vote? Confused

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 12:22

I'm getting so long in the tooth that I've become very cynical about elected politicians and their party politics.

I'm especially unimpressed with the Scottish parliament and government.

Mainly right now though I resent the coming election due to the pandemic virus risk. Such as campaigning as mentioned here plus the inevitable mixing on polling day
All this whilst education and medical care is hugely curtailed and people are denied a normal social and emotional life.

So yeah I have reservations.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 12:23

Awaiting your next froth with anticipation!🤣

UnderHisAye · 26/03/2021 12:26

And how do you think a postponement of the election would have played with people on this board, who are overwhelmingly anti-SNP?

I may or may not vote for them; I'm a floating voter really, just as a disclaimer. But no, I don't think we should postpone elections when they can easily be run safely.

Frothing = disagreeing with you. Got it.

WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 12:26

😂
WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 12:27

I genuinely thought they’d said there was to be no in person campaigning?

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/03/2021 12:27

In good news- I just read that the Tories are polling 3rd place i know polls are wrong a lot of the time so probably means nothing but it'd be great if Labour were second and we had a decent leader of the opposition.

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/03/2021 12:28

That sentence should have been two. Wish there was an edit function!
