I am desperately worried about education and why so little seems to work. If you live in some parts of Scotland you will not have outcomes that will allow even moderate success. The Curriculum for Excellence is full of woolly nonsense and is not underpinned by robust exemplification. In spite of numerous requests, we still don't really know what excellence actually is - or indeed mediocrity.
SQA have presided over a holy mess and this year is putting intolerable burdens on teachers. I have no idea why they could not collect in and mark papers for most pupils, with teacher fallback for others. My department is going to be doing twice the work of an SQA marker (I am one) for £400 when the equivalent amount of work would yield twice that.
The OECD report must be terrible or it would have been released. I can only assume it sees the reality for pupils today. 5/6 subjects in S4. A narrow and prescriptive course at Higher (I teach English which has become a box ticking exercise).
I could go on. Education is so poor and no one is taking responsibility. We were told to judge on education. Well, I do. And it is shit. And, for some, it is disgraceful.
And that is without the pandemic which left laptops stuck in warehouses and kids getting little or no teaching online.
