@Selkiesarereal

I would suggest that it is far more misogynistic to not support a colleague who is facing death threats.
The treatment/ignoring of Joanna Cherry has been shameful. Utterly shameful. The SNP could have stood up against the threats without validating her views if they felt that was an issue; a simple "regardless of anyone's political opinions threats of rape and violence are not acceptable and will not be tolerated from party members" would have done
WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 17:47

Am I right in thinking the Lord Advocate said he was stepping down after the election or have I imagined that?

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 17:47

*not that Mr Wolffe is the subject of my imaginings 😂

TheShadowyFeminist · 25/03/2021 17:48

@WouldBeGood

I think most voters would be startled to get a Kirsty Blackman style election flyer!
Could be fun though 😁

"Can you perceive me to be your MSP?"

"I identify as your MSP so gimme you're vote"

"Is your intersectional gender architecture in need of support? Let me be your MSP"

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 17:50

@TheShadowyFeminist 😂😂

I suspect her views were a convenient 'hook' for some to allow the abuse to go on unchecked, even up to the point of criminal threats. That's what's truely abhorrent to me. Sturgeon is incapable of having any decency around this, and continues to endorse the abuse by staying silent & not addressing the root cause.

Or, to get back to the primary subject of the thread, it's worse than that, and (pace David Davis), they decided to use those views as an excuse to go after her because she raised the question of inappropriate fishing for testimony against Salmond at the NEC, and they needed to undermine her credibility and leverage.

reprehensibleme · 25/03/2021 17:58

Joanna Cherry stepping down for health reasons Hmm

reprehensibleme · 25/03/2021 17:59

Or rather 'taking time out'

TheShadowyFeminist · 25/03/2021 17:59

I heard he was retiring in May? So was never going to actively do anything no matter what the criticism of him. The service that was from the shadow AG (labour) in England was an excoriating criticism of his actions throughout the JR. And still Wolfe just 🤷🏻‍♀️
WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 18:05

I’m very disappointed in him.

Yes I think there's a number of issues intertwined in how she's been treated by the SNP which is a shameful stain on all of them. She spoke up, as a QC, to question why senior SNP officials were suborning witnesses when the police were investigating. Those involved had the benefit of a QC who was experienced in prosecuting cases developed from police investigations and was doing them a favour by pointing out their activities were less than helpful. And of course, she's been vocal on women's rights so the combination makes it very easy to set the extreme fringe on her, even when that includes seriously dangerous SNP members who go so far they end up convicted of making credible threats of violence including sexual violence.

When you actually see that written down & realise that Sturgeon still hasn't been challenged on this, it's quite astonishing. And not in a good way.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:06

Lord advocate James Wolffe certainly has had a lot of heat.
Ideologically I agree with separation of the dual, roles
No idea if he’s stepping down though

derxa · 25/03/2021 18:07

@reprehensibleme

Joanna Cherry stepping down for health reasons Hmm
I don't think she'll be getting any get well cards from Nicola. I know politics is a rough business but no duty of care has been carried out I suspect. The more I watch NS's performance in the Scottish parliament, the more I think she is just plain nasty.
TheShadowyFeminist · 25/03/2021 18:09

'service'

Weird autocorrect in that post re Wolfe.

I think it should have said piece. But not sure now I'm thinking of the right word 😁

happygolurkey · 25/03/2021 18:09

Just a reminder here 🪨
I really find this utterly baffling TheShadowyFeminist

robust debate about the actual evidence at the actual inquiries is 'de-railing' and should be grey stoned. Answering is 'pointless'. But pages of scrutiny over Nicola Sturgeon's house/clothes/hairstyle and ankles is vitally relevant

I think for once I'll take your advice and move on as, as I say, you have all obviously lost the argument when all youz can come up with is that utter drivel

Haha fair point @happygolurkey I'd forgotten about all that guff about her 'makeover' and her house. Weird how that didn't get grey rocked.

Some posters are just more equal than others 🤷🏻‍♀️

You'll be missed!

Link to judgement

Full written judgement on Craig Murray.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:15

I don’t think FM is nasty at all i do think she’s driven. I think all politics is fierce and evokes strong feelings and emotions. Inevitably it generates ill feeling and partisan feelings.

Having said all that FM/Scottish Govt has a 55% approval,rating abs is on course to get majority of seats

So,all the digs about Scottish people being kept in dark and fed shite just seems sour
Never a good look to disparage a whole swathe of the voting public but maintain lofty view that you (clever you) sees the system/FM for the baseless frauds they are

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:17

For reference, No, I’ll no be moving on and I’ll not be shown the arrow or the Boulder

WouldBeGood · 25/03/2021 18:22

Thanks @TheShadowyFeminist

Craig Murray seems nuts too, but very badly treated. It’s just all really sleazy and wrong. The state and the prosecution intertwined like this looks so bad.

forfucksakenett · 25/03/2021 18:24

Yes very driven. I know someone who was at uni with her and said that. She knew exactly what she wanted even as a young woman.

I think we as a society are suspicious of driven women. It's very sad. I work with some confident women who are very driven and occasionally I find myself irritated by these traits. I genuinely think it's subconscious jealousy a bit on my part.

I want independence but I'm not an SNP fan really. I do very much admire NS though. I think she's a fantastic role model.

reprehensibleme · 25/03/2021 18:25

She might be driven but she's always positioning herself, the SNP and Scots as somehow 'better' yet she allows Joanna Cherry to be the victim of horrendous abuse with no support at all (her little video denying the SNP are transphobic will not be forgotten Hmm), but doesn't seem to have a problem with Kirsty Blackman posting absolute drivel on twitter, or Mhairi Black posting abusive rants online. That's not better than anyone. She has jumped on a particularly nasty shouty bandwagon, probably to appeal to younger voters.

TheShadowyFeminist · 25/03/2021 18:29

I find Murray eccentric & I'm never quite sure how much of what he says is real or not. But it's shocking that he has been convicted here when Dani Garavelli's piece was much clearer on jigsaw identification. It's certainly baffling how he has been convicted & she's not even had a knock at her door. I think another journalist posted the name of one complainant live during the trial too.

Makes no sense to me why Murray is the only one convicted. Someone else mentioned him being warned during the trial as the reason I think. But even with that, Garavelli's piece was a lengthy & considered one, which did contain info that led to at least 1 women being easily identifiable. Either publishing information that makes jigsaw identification a breach of the court order or it doesn't. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There's something quite wrong with this case.
