@RaindropsSplashRainbows

Sessell it's the crown office stuff that really concerns me. I was trying to explain to my blasé teenager, not sure I managed.
I read Craig Murray earlier on a story I hadn't heard of before. He's obviously not objective as he knows the man involved but it's an example of a prosecution that ended up with the accused acquitted but not until he'd had to spend ££££s & had 6 mths of his life impacted by the case.

Link to tweet

The HCB is going to open up the scope of this sort of thing even further.

happygolurkey · 23/03/2021 19:01

the lack of separation from the Crown office most of all.
then strange you would you vote SNP in the past, since the set up has always been the case. (did you hear the answer to David Davis' speech in parliament on constitutional matters?)

not any other party that doesn't know what a woman is.

Since, as you say, you don't live in Scotland, I'm intrigued as to how you will vote and what that party's stance on the above question is

sessell · 23/03/2021 19:33

@happy lay people don't really pay attention to constitutional affairs until they are blatantly abused. The fact that the head of the crown office is also a member of the Sturgeon cabinet has been clearly abused throughout this sorry affair. It's shown up a major flaw in the political system. For anyone who wants to know more just Google it. I've reached my limit on paywalls, but there are some wonderfully titled articles including words like 'banana republic without bananas' and 'like a fish the crown office is rotting from the head.' here's a less colourful but non-paywalled example: www.scottishlegal.com/article/alistair-bonnington-salmond-inquiry-reflects-poorly-on-scotland-s-democratic-traditions

As for my own politics. I'm a lefty feminist with no clear political home at the moment.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/03/2021 19:37

Indeed. Like many issues you require both a system which enables and individuals willing to exploit it.

I'm broadly centrist, politically homeless feminist.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 19:38

I’m a lawyer and this wasn’t such an issue as standards were higher, and personalities different. I’m absolutely amazed by the obvious conflict of interest and bad acting. This needs to change urgently with a proper separation of powers.

RedactedTaeFeck · 23/03/2021 19:39

@TheShadowyFeminist

That story is appalling. It just goes to show that the SNP have their own version of the privileged being able to ride roughshod over the rest of society.

They can get stuffed with their tales of Tory old boys clubs etc

RedactedTaeFeck · 23/03/2021 19:44

I was left before the woke shite.

Now more a left leaning centrist. Also politically homeless but happy to lend the Tories my votes this time as that is the best chance of ousting the SNP in my area and they are currently the only ones supporting women. I honestly don't like voting negatively but feel forced into it really. I'll keep watching the polls (for what that is worth) but I think the die is cast.

Me too @sessell

I’m voting for whoever can beat the SNP but holding my nose cos of the women stuff.

dementedma · 23/03/2021 19:44

This may sound dramatic but I am seriously thinking about not remaining in Scotland under the SNP, another referendum, more hatred and division. I'm English but have lived here most of my life, worked here, paid tax here. Gave birth to and raised my children here. But the control the SNP has genuinely frightens me,as does the independence anti-English rhetoric. Got dogs abuse last time round.." Fuck off back to England" etc. I'm not one given to histrionics but there is an undercurrent in Scotland at the moment that makes me very uneasy.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/03/2021 19:49

Random aside as we've been discussing speech being limited at various points - I just wandered over to Reddit and it appears there was a stooshie on their UK politics subreddit last night. Looks like one of the mods posted a link to an article which mentioned an individual who used to be in politics but is now an admin at reddit and using their power to limit any mention of them, and they banned the admin. Whole sub had to be closed while it was sorted out and any mention of this person is now banned...

www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/mbeycw/whats_the_deal_with_rukpolitics_going_private_and/

It's not directly related to this but the limitation on speech is concerning and I thought would interest some posters here

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 19:49

My DS feels it too @dementedma as he’s half English and sounds like his dad

RedactedTaeFeck · 23/03/2021 19:52

You are not alone @dementedma.

DSs have 2 years left of Uni, DH looking to retire at that point if not before. He is very fit but has a very physical job so only planning 2 years past 60 doing what he does. I'm really hating my job and realistically i could work anywhere if i'm able to work at home and be close enough to attend one of our offices from time to time. I'd love to be made redundant but taking a financial hit and retiring early is probably more realistic.

We don't live particularly near family and our intention was to move to the Borders when retired as we'd really be no farther away from some and closer to others. It wouldn't make that much difference for us to situate ourselves just the other side of the border.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/03/2021 20:02

I don't think you guys are alone; if we didn't have ties here I'd be tempted.

RedactedTaeFeck · 23/03/2021 20:08

We already knew specifically where we wanted to be when we do what should be our last move, but it's still in Scotland unless we get a massive redraw of the border. I could ask NS to do a deal with BJ for a land grab by him in exchange for permission to have a referendum - or is that too selfish? Grin
ClarkeGriffin · 23/03/2021 20:23

I truly hate Nicola bitchface after this whole shit story.

Shes got her dim-witted followers going round Facebook telling people that she wasn't found to have broken ministerial code or misled the investigation. One might be true, but the other certainly isn't. But now it's just like a fake news story. The idiotic, brainless snp followers will believe it and follow along like the sheep they are. She's no better than trump now for this.

Besides, she god damn well definitely did know about it all. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete moron. It's bad enough slimy salmond got let off with it all, now she's got away with it too. It's disgusting and the worst thing is she's a woman. She has betrayed women in scotland. How can anyone think they will be believed when their own first minister lies about this shit?

I hope if she gets her way and gets another independence vote that she loses hard. But will she accept that? Doubtful. She doesn't give a shit about any of us. She's ruined education, she's ruined health, more people have died under her watch and she doesn't care about it. Wish she would just go and fuck off to another country.

Sorry for the rant, I'm a tad angry about it.

sessell · 23/03/2021 20:36

@redacted @statist I'm also less lefty than I used to be, since most of the left has been so easily captured by interest groups. Was it @stats who mentioned the Reddit debacle re Challenor? The way they inveigled their way into the Green Party, Lib Dems, stonewall, pride etc - and now with a censoring role at Reddit - is a case in point re how gullible the left is. It doesn't get much worse than Challenor, but most people won't have heard of it. Greens and lib Dems don't care. Labour not much better. The growing grassroots women's movement is building though. Would be good to see a louder voice and women's manifesto during the election. Hopefully FWS and co are already on it.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 20:37

Now the weasel Patrick Harvie is standing up for women.... my blood is boiling

Yeah it was me. Major Streisand effect though, so many folk finding out about it who never would have known

RedactedTaeFeck · 23/03/2021 20:55

I accept I've been watching way too much Game of Thrones, but i am now imagining creating a fence for my front garden made from sharpened fenceposts, each one decorated with a head of my enemies. The only disappointing fact is that I don't have a big enough garden :(
