Wee bit sweeping there Daisy. She did finish her articles and worked a couple of years in Stirling before Drumchapel. Fair to say she's not got much professional hinterland though.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 15:00

@daisyfraser

Her 'practice' was maternity cover in the Family dept of the Drumchapel Law Centre - now Drumchapel Money Advice Centre. She fought five elections - council and Westminster - and lost them all.

Finally she got into Holyrood on the Regional List - ie not elected, just next name to make up the numbers.
Made Deputy Leader SNP
Inherited the post of First Minister because she was then besties with the then FM who was going off in a huff after losing the 2014 referendum
'Elected' into the post by 63 SNP MSPs. Not even the party membership had a say.

And then her first speech she had the gall to stand up and say 'now any wee girl can achieve what I achieved'.
What did she 'achieve' exactly ?
She wasn't even ELECTED.

And all the nation's press fell over themselves to raise her up onto some sort of pedestal as this 'magnificent role model' for all women. And the thinking aware Scots could only look on open-mouthed at their stupidity and the amount of brass in her neck.

What a deeply unpleasant post. Care to list your professional achievements so we can celebrate them?
GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 15:02

@daisyfraser that is fucking awful. What a shitty way to tear a woman down.

I suppose you'd rather Johnson whose main achievements seem to be funny hair and mediocre educational attainment at Eton.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 15:07

It's okay @GirlLovesWorld I'm sure @daisyfraser will be back in a moment to list all her amazing qualifications and professional achievements so that we can have a wee look.

jabbathebutt · 06/03/2021 15:11

Good post @daisyfraser

but you're only allowed to criticize the achievements and appearance of men, specifically Boris Johnson, you must not criticize the achievements or appearance women, specifically Nicola Sturgeon

eye roll

disclaimer: not a Tory. Not a supporter of any party at present.

LexMitior · 06/03/2021 15:11

To be fair to the PP it doesn’t sound like NS was much of a lawyer. But she does sound like a very good operator! That gets you somewhere in politics.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/03/2021 15:13

A lot of this going on by NS fans. Maybe try and argue the facts instead 🤷‍♀️

She studied law didn't she, has a degree. Which means she knows this stuff surely.
GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 15:17

You can take any opinion you like on anyone you like. But expect people to notice when you try to claim that someone who was a lawyer and then spent more than two decades as a politician somehow didn't get there on her own merits.

I think it's a shitty thing to do to a woman, when we know the whole fucking system is a boys club. You may dislike her but it's not nothing to have a working class woman get to a position where she can lead the country.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/03/2021 15:18

And yet it seems not?

Some amount of 'I hate the SNP and it's no fair!' in this thread.

There do seem to be disturbing parallels with the Rangers case.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/03/2021 15:24

I don't care whether someone is male or female. I don't like people being critised for things they can't help, such as their appearance. I also don't care whether Sturgeon is Male or Female, what gender she thinks she is, gay or straight, black or white, rich or poor etc etc.

I'll judge her on her track record and find it wanting. Amongst many other things she asked to be judged on education and yet we don't have the report out and posters defending Sturgeon here seem happy to agree that Swinney should go. The public are, in essence, her employer so I think the fact her "achievements" are in the public domain is fair enough, I'm not paying PPs wages so have no interest in her qualifications.

Why is the tactic always to come back to the Tories and/or Boris etc? deflect deflect deflect

Just cos something is shite, doesn't mean that we should allow something else to be shite.

It has nothing to do with being a woman. If that is the only reason you have to object you need to be taking a long hard look at yourself. Personally I don't suppose anyone in the name of womens rights etc I support people because they deserve it.

NS has abused the idea of MeToo and hid behind it. Then whilst questioned tried to manipulate voters into thinking she was supporting abused women in her actions. The sad thing is some people have fallen for it. When in fact that action alone she have every woman in the country sickened.

Nobody is moaning about you judging her on her political achievements or lack thereof.

It's @daisyfraser's pretty horrible post about her professional life prior to politics that started this.

Is it not SNP supporters that are bringing politics into the thread the most. Comparing Tories, Boris etc. Most the other posters seem to be talking about the case, facts, Sturgeon as a leader etc
kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 15:35

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

You're right. The non SNP supporters keep it completely factual and are completely balanced in all their posts. They also never mention England or Boris. Ever. 🤣🤣🤣

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/03/2021 15:35

I don't get it. The post about her CV was mostly just factual with a little personal take chucked in.

Is it just not allowed to be critical of NS?

LexMitior · 06/03/2021 15:35

@WaxOnFeckOff

Actually, again being fair, the time out rule in JR is a piece of legal court procedure which is really for public law specialists and you only use such rules in public law practice.

Therefore I don’t think she would have known it from the off - however, she would have been well placed in theory to understand it and the implications if it was brought to her attention - which Salmond inadvertently did it seems by showing the grounds before issue

Because it is irrelevant to Scottish politics in this case🤷‍♀️ Boris isn't being investigated here. He probably is somewhere but in Scotland or on this thread.

Me thinks you do deflect to much because you know you can't defend her

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 15:38

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum of course you can.

What's not really okay is to diminish and belittle her professional career prior to entering politics.

You can do it, of course, it's a free forum but people might point out your dickish behaviour.

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 15:40

Any personal slight can be then argued with and used to successfully deflect. That's why it's seized on.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

I never said he was being investigated in this case. You said only SNP supporters bring politics or England or Boris into it. That's not the case.

I'm defending the professional life of NS prior to entering politics. I don't thinking's okay to tear that down.

I would defend her professional career as a politician and the FM because I think that overall she's done a good job. I recognise though that others may not agree. That's obviously completely fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️
