I know @WouldBeGood it's such a shame, but hopefully when group game restrictions are lifted which I think is due either this Tuesday or next, they'll be open again.

Luckily DH had refilled the hot tub for its first outing this year so DS got a bit of Vitamin D from that and a dog walk. We're on the home straight schooling wise so I'm trying to remain positive Grin.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 18:17

That sounds good @rookiemere!

I’m thinking of trying to negotiate just one outing a week with me with DS; to play tennis, or do something outdoors, then lay off him. He’s using my treadmill but needs to get outdoors.

rookiemere · 07/03/2021 18:23

DS school report was interesting.

His physical education teacher said he'd made a good effort to participate in the home exercise. Now DS has - I think - managed about 2 runs and 2 walks on Strava since lockdown maybe a few more if he logs dog walks, but certainly nowhere near enough exercise for a teenage boy. The fact that his teacher has said he has done well, suggests that a good proportion of the class have not logged anything.

I know that the counsellor at school has a six month waiting list for appointments when normally there is none. Goodness knows what long term physical and mental harm is being caused by this prolonged lockdown. I'm not saying open everything at once or even schools to all, but outdoor exercise for a few teens is surely worth the minuscule covid risk.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 18:29

My DS has quit logging anything for PE

I’m really worried about him becoming depressed as well as unfit which is why I’m so desperate for him to be in school.

That’s interesting and very worrying about the counsellor and waiting list. I know a therapist who’s saying the same. She’s inundated with requests to see depressed and suicidal teens.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 18:29

Maybe I should get a hot tub to persuade him outside 😂

rookiemere · 07/03/2021 18:34

@WouldBeGood worth a try Wink.

If he's going on the treadmill though he is getting exercise even if he isn't logging it. We are on the home stretch now for our boys, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes. I managed to get DS out a few times by arranging joint walks with mum friends and their DS who DS is friendly with, usually involving a treat at the end. Would that work at all?

It felt awkward as DS should be of an age to organise his own social life, but he's not confident enough to ask one person.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 18:36

Mine sounds similar. I might ask his friend’s mum if he could come over, and they could light my outdoor fire and make popcorn and marshmallows.

Hell would freeze over before he’d come a walk with me and his friend

If anyone is geeky like me and follows the scientific updates on the vaccines the lancet has a great paper....
Looks like the UK govt played a blinder on the 12 week delay.....and as muhh as it pains me to say..... Well done Borris govt!

Modelling analyses showed an increase in vaccine efficacy after two standard doses from 55·1% (95% CI 33·0 to 69·9) with an interval of less than 6 weeks to 81·3% (60·3 to 91·2) with an interval of at least 12 weeks.

It currently is a smaller cohort study but looks good. Also hopefully reassures some people who were nervous about the strategy.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 20:37

That great @Scottishskifun. it’s astounding that the generally awful Boris regime has totally nailed the vaccine stuff

Scottishskifun · 07/03/2021 20:50

@WouldBeGood yes so much science and work has gone into it there is a full vaccination dept as a subset of another UK govt dept but that takes massive investment and also initial investment in the various vaccination developments so it needed Westminsters full sign off.
As much as Borris has mucked up the early days his govt has nailed vaccine and therefore real life.

But urghhhhh it hurts my head and heart to say the Tories got it right 😂

Scottishskifun · 07/03/2021 20:50

*real life should be return to life! Doh

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 20:57

I know! But credit where it’s due. This is just brilliant.

Peppafrig · 07/03/2021 21:47

Any unpaid carers in Lanarkshire I just got my vaccine appointment in for next week.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 22:02

That’s very good news @Peppafrig

I think I saw Lanarkshire was doing a big push owing to infection rates.

Peppafrig · 07/03/2021 22:16

I really hope they are doing a massive push and everyone will be done soon. Hope everyone else who is waiting gets appointments through soon.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 22:21

DP is 59 and has an underlying condition and was jagged ten days ago.

I’m 51 and far but Ok and the calculator says should be done by may 19th

Rainuntilseptember · 07/03/2021 23:04

The last time I did the calculator it said toward the end of April for me, now it says towards the end of May.

Rainuntilseptember · 08/03/2021 00:05

Have just in fact looked up the calculators of all 4 nations and Scotland is a month (plus) behind all the other 3.

Lockdownbear · 08/03/2021 01:28

Boris really has nailed the vaccine.

Everything from taking the risk very early on to buy so many vaccines from different companies that may not work. But by backing so many he was guaranteed to get enough vaccines to do the country.

He'd have been slaughtered if he'd only bought just enough and some failed to meet the standards.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 07:08

That’s interesting @Rainuntilseptember. I did mine and it’s predicting over a month later than England. Disappointing.

In England it’s saying between 28 March and 10th April which would be great!

rookiemere · 08/03/2021 08:10

That is disappointing on the vaccines. I thought Scotland was now doing ok, when I have been checking Travelling Tabby the daily vaccination rate seems roughly on a par with the other three nations.

Rainuntilseptember · 08/03/2021 08:30

I haven't checked that, just the prediction. I think we must be in the same group Wouldbegood.
Though we hear of people much younger having "random" vaccines so maybe will be lucky.

Scottishskifun · 08/03/2021 08:49

It's unclear what is causing the delay in Scotland compared to the other nations. If it was a supply issue I would anticipate the same being across the other nations and therefore showing similar dates so unclear if there is another factor!
I know our local vaccination centre has frustratingly been closed a few times as they do care homes. I have no idea why its not possible to run both in parallel as they have quite a few staff now.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 08:52

It is a shame, and will have knock on effects for travelling and so on. Also, obviously, more people are still going to catch the virus.

Don’t get it.
