@user1487194234

We do always seem to be behind England
We're not though. People keep repeating that on this thread as if it's a fact.

Unless you count being 0.8% of a difference as being materially 'behind'. We've given 0.7% more second doses though.

Cismyfatarse · 06/03/2021 14:45

But we are. If I were my age in Yorkshire or Devon I would've had it by now. DH definitely too. He is a bit older than me.

And 0.8% is a lot of people unprotected and unvaccinated.

GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 14:46

Yeah @WaxOnFeckOff I'm sure that percentage is mainly healthcare. We can't know but I'm sure it is. Anecdotally I haven't heard anyone in their 50s getting it yet.

Cismyfatarse · 06/03/2021 14:47

That is a lot. Population of 4 million eligible. 1% is 40,000. So just under that.

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 14:50

@Cismyfatarse ate but if you were your age in another region of Scotland you might have had it too. What age are you?

GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 14:50

@Cismyfatarse

We are Fife too. It is not fast enough and it also feels deliberately centrally managed to be different.
Oh for goodness sake, that's the latest take on NS and her desperate need to be different then?

Nothing to do with Scotland's NHS just making different decisions for their own reasons.

Does every single thing have to be seen in comparison? It is so terribly boring.

Lucienandjean · 06/03/2021 14:54

I agree with Cis, we do seem to be behind England, at least here in Edinburgh. There's been no plausible explanation for why Edinburgh has the worst vaccination rate in Scotland.

I'm 56 with underlying conditions, and getting really anxious about the delay now. Friends in England of my age and younger are now able to book in online, even if they are perfectly healthy.

I think the highly centralised (and frankly old-fashioned) system Scotland is using to send appointments is slowing the whole thing down unnecessarily.

GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 14:56

Well obviously there are regional variations, there are articles in the paper today about regions of England that haven't even vaccinated all of their elderly yet.

Neither my parents or in laws were invited by letter, they just had a call from their GP saying 'can you make it tomorrow'. Same as my brother actually.

hilbil21 · 06/03/2021 15:08

I'm classed as an unpaid carer (group 6) and got my vaccination in Argyll and Bute yesterday.

GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 15:18

That's great @hilbil21 Smile

Lucienandjean · 06/03/2021 15:26

My point is that there is no clarity or urgency about what is going on. For example, at the very start of this, Edinburgh was falling behind in giving vaccinations, and the explanation given was that there are a lot of care homes in Edinburgh and they take longer than other groups, but that once they were done we would catch up. Fair enough.

But we've not caught up at all. We're still right at the bottom of the table. Now, it's possible that Edinburgh has a huge number of 65+ people too (though I doubt it - it seems to have a young population overall), but it's the lack of transparency that is troubling.

Meanwhile the omnicalculator for Scotland tells me I can expect to get my first dose in early April, but if I put the same details in the one for England I could have the vaccination sometime between tomorrow and next week.

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 15:30

Lucien I have the same concerns.

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 15:31

My family in England sound surprised when I say that I haven't heard yet.

Lucienandjean · 06/03/2021 15:40

OldRailer, mine too!

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 15:45

There all on there booking first and second doses.Hmm I've thought of teasing them as "vaccine wankers" Grin but have resisted thus far.

Lucienandjean · 06/03/2021 15:50

And then when I say (through gritted teeth) that we can't book our own appointments but have to wait to be sent one (at a time that may be impossible and have to be rebooked, because we can't be trusted to choose our own appointments apparently), they stare at me in disbelief!

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 15:51

I don't go into such detail to spare myself the mortification.

Lucienandjean · 06/03/2021 15:53
Grin
hilbil21 · 06/03/2021 15:57

@GirlLovesWorld I'm delighted but felt absolutely awful from about midnight last night till 7.30am. Think the worst is over now. Hopefully everyone will get theirs ASAP

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 16:00

I cannot wait to be vaccinated! In my thirties so might have a while yet.

GirlLovesWorld · 06/03/2021 16:01

My brother had two days in bed! He felt pretty rough too.

OldRailer · 06/03/2021 16:02

Well we'll all get it in the end.

hilbil21 Very glad you've got yours and that they are working their way through the levels!

jabbathebutt · 06/03/2021 16:03

I have chased up my GP so many times as he says I'm vulnerable and I've to stay in, yet I've to wait for the 40s age group Hmm

pretty pissed off with it tbh

Scottishskifun · 06/03/2021 16:14

Yep I completely agree that it's bonkers that you can't just log onto a system when you get a code and book from there.
I mean it works for testing (although this isn't a SG website) so no idea why they can't do the same thing for vaccination centres.

My area is also ridiculously behind I mean remote communities are doing better than my area!

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/03/2021 16:18

Was it AZ @GirlLovesWorld ?
