As the conversation is interesting and the thread is nearly full. Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4153007-Does-it-matter-if-Sturgeon-is-guilty-do-you-know-or-care

@WaxOnFeckOff that’s the one Jim Sillars reported which she adjudicated on and said she was innocent?

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 22:27

That's not what I wrote.

littlbrowndog · 01/03/2021 22:27

But kurt this is Scotland.

This is where we live work go to school go to work

If guilty then what ?

OldRailer · 01/03/2021 22:28

.

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 22:29

Then I think she'll be forced to resign. I won't be calling for it though.

littlbrowndog · 01/03/2021 22:29

Why not

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2021 22:30

I agree troll hunting is against the rules but isn't accusing people (as you did kurt) of astroturfing just the same? two cheeks of the same arse?

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2021 22:31

Mumsnet is truly such a bizarre place. I've been asked a question and asked for info in order to answer it and I'm now a troll or a 'plant'. Quite sad. Really. No wonder people come off it.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 01/03/2021 22:32

kurt how do you feel about the Scottish judiciary and civil service being called into disrepute as a result of this political scandal.

The systems that are supposed to be independent of political interference that underpin Scottish democracy seem to have been compromised.

Does that not matter?

TheShadowyFeminist · 01/03/2021 22:33

I have no idea what to make of this.

Statement from Geoff Aberdein.

@wtf is astroturfing and who did I accuse of that?

littlbrowndog · 01/03/2021 22:34

Swinney had to publish the evidence when he was going to have a vote of no confidence

All the other parties voted against him

Why is this ?

daisyfraser · 01/03/2021 22:34

Repeatedly asking for information which is freely available elsewhere, thereby filling up pages and pages of the thread...at the same time not actually offering any interesting contribution...One could say the debate is thus being derailed

If I have misunderstood then it would be more helpful to them if they were left to go and find out the facts themselves rather than being spoonfed, they could then return with their new information. Thus aremd to join in with the debate.
There are some very well-informed posters here and I would rather read their input than...

kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 22:35

Sorry I just realised I've @ someone called wtf. Not intentional.

I'm just so bemused that I've been accused of something that sounds like the position of the month from a 90s lad's mag.

LexMitior · 01/03/2021 22:36

I get that some may not like what I have to say.

But I don't subscribe to "too stupid to be independent". The SNP are too stupid to deliver it as becomes apparent. They will give you an independence that is not worth the price. That's my point.

Scotland is a formidable intellectual country - having worked with its lawyers for years, I can only say that their grasp of detail is unsurpassed. I've been happy to work with the top flight of the legal profession in Scotland. Its not associated with the SNP, but the quality is there. They just aren't working with the UK, and it shows. Thats the point of the union, and if you have a Scottish Government that is anti union then it stands to reason you will have a decline in quality in law, particularly in legislative terms.

Its this reason that Joanna Cherry being sacked is concerning - she gave people like me a run for my money and what a bloody good job she did in twisting Westminster's tail. No offence but her replacement doesn't make me exactly sweat.

I guess though the SNP prefers Ian Blackford as he is good domestic copy, because that plays better with members. Who cares about Blackford in Westminster? A blatherer. Cherry actually had some teeth.

You need quality people in politics all around, across the UK. It makes us stronger to have the debate.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 01/03/2021 22:39

Astroturfing, I misread as Astroterfing and wandered off to the Feminist boards to be enlightened.
Still none the wiser.
As you were.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2021 22:39

Apologies kurt, I've mis-called that one - it was another poster on another thread "kamalasshaman" a one thread wonder.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2021 22:40

astroturfing
/ˈastrəʊtəːfɪŋ/
noun
the deceptive practice of presenting an orchestrated marketing or public relations campaign in the guise of unsolicited comments from members of the public.

daisyfraser · 01/03/2021 22:40

Indeed re: Blackford. A great bully. See Charles Kennedy.
I gather that even his constituents don't understand how he was elected.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 22:41

That’s a strange tweet from Aberdein.

So, Alex Prentice and the Crown Agent tomorrow. Should be interesting.

What a big mess it all is.

Yes exactly
kurtrussellsbeard · 01/03/2021 22:42

@ShowmetheSnowdrops I haven't followed this in anywhere near as much detail as most of you guys on this thread.

I, like many others, have really struggled to get a proper hold on the significance of it all.

I find it very difficult, as I've said to separate it from the wider context of British politics. Alistair Campbell summed it up for me - and those are words I didn't think I'd be saying.

My initial gut feeling is that she will be forced to resign and I wouldn't want that.

I'll wait and see what the outcome is and what is published after the fact but maybe I'll change my mind.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 22:42

That’s given me a picture in my head 😂 Psychedelic
ShowmetheSnowdrops · 01/03/2021 22:46

Totally agree about Joanna Cherry.
Her intellect and ability to debate is head and shoulders above the vast majority of SNP MPs and MSPs.

Was she really sacked because she’s a threat to NS ?
I’ve heard a variety of rumours circulating which I wouldn’t commit to print.
Whatever is going on behind the scenes, the lack of support shown to Joanna Cherry by NS in the face of horrendous threats, is unforgivable.

littlbrowndog · 01/03/2021 22:47

Joanna does have teeth and very clever woman

Yet her own party don’t even appreciate her

She was sacked cos she supported women 🤦‍♀️
