As the conversation is interesting and the thread is nearly full. Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4153007-Does-it-matter-if-Sturgeon-is-guilty-do-you-know-or-care

It’s really grubby

noego · 02/03/2021 22:09

There has to be a VoNC tabled in the SP. Every MSP should vote with their conscience. If NS isn't removed the credibility of Scotland its parliament, judicial system and civil service will in tatters even more so than it is now!!

Bytheloch · 02/03/2021 22:11

@WaxOnFeckOff

it's like someone pulled a loose thread on a knitted sweater and it's now unravelled up to the oxters and we now await to see whether there is any jumper left by the morning.
Yes, incredible how fast this has moved in the last few hours.
suggestionsplease1 · 02/03/2021 22:12

My gut instinct for Nicola Sturgeon has always previously been that she has integrity and has tried to act honorably (don't always agree with the politics but hey ho).

Now I don't know what to think. It feels a bit like a 'believing your own hype' ... "I did what I thought was right" a la Tony Blair, moment.

Bejazzled · 02/03/2021 22:14

Watching Humza Yousaf on the bbc there...apparently despite everything released today we have to wait until NS speaks tomorrow to hear “the facts”
So everyone else including your own legal team are lying are they Humza?

I'd like to say that was unbelievable but sadly he really is that stupid.
LexMitior · 02/03/2021 22:17

Yousaf's remark makes good sense if you assume as he must, that the FM is a kind of oracle of truth who will explain this all to the people of Scotland and you can all go to bed with a malted milk drink and never consider these questions again.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 22:18

They’ve been told. Mike Russell same line on Twitter 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bejazzled · 02/03/2021 22:19

Unbelievable!
‘On message’ the minions assemble...

Well yes, that's me truly comforted, just getting my horlicks and I'll be off...

I wonder if there is much sleep going to be had in the Murrell/sturgeon household tonight? Maybe checking to see if they can manage on Peter's wages.

Dinnafashyersel · 02/03/2021 22:21

Just catching up on all the comings and goings. The lack of professionalism and respect for professionals advising is shocking.

Humza Yousaf saying the voters will decide and I suspect this is indeed where we are. It is probably too late and even more high risk for the SNP to dump NS before the election and if they did her husband would have to go too. Therefore even if there is a VoNC it feels like they will go for running a campaign to get the electorate to exonerate unless there is clear proof of criminality.

For the Greens, Labour and LibDems there is likely a political calculation around whether to depose NS so close to the election or let the clock run down.

Dinnafashyersel · 02/03/2021 22:27

X-posts.

Don't think Humza cares whether NS gives a credible account as long as enough people vote SNP regardless. That's the strategy because there is no alternative succession and they are all implicated by too close association - that famed lack of dissent coming back to bite them.

(at least the Tories are always like rats in a sack ready to draw blood and move on)

BilboBercow · 02/03/2021 22:28

I must admit this thread has been an uncomfortable read for me and made me confront my own confirmation bias.

I was an SNP voter for the best part of 20 years and voted yes in 2014. Brexit has made me realise that was a heart over head decision and I've changed my mind. I voted Labour tactically in the GE but still liked SNP and Sturgeon and found them *mainly competent and most importantly regarding Sturgeon, principled.

What's coming out in this case has left me to my disappointment seeing I was very wrong. Of course nothing will come of it. A lot of the people I know will overlook this as not being as important as independence. She won't resign and I'm sure they'll still romp it in April... and I'm completely politically homeless.

LexMitior · 02/03/2021 22:29

Interesting I agree because the real question is whether Scottish voters will endorse her, irrespective of the legalities.

BilboBercow · 02/03/2021 22:29

*some of their more authoritarian ideas not withstanding

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 22:31

So, in the event she does go, who do we think will take over?

Amongst other things, she has also failed as a manager of her team. She has failed to select the best candidates by merit and then failed to develop the staff in position. She could have been exposing some of them to do the less contentious briefings, I mean we've had a year of them and aside for a handful, she's done them all. They've all just had to follow in her wake and do as they are told and as such now fail to be able to have an independent thought, It's clear than none of them are suitable candidates.

So what then? Salmond back?

TokyoSushi · 02/03/2021 22:31

Humza was ridiculous just then, I can't see what NS can say tomorrow that's going to make is say 'ohhhhh, well that's all absolutely fine then, sorry about that, on you go.'

Can you even imagine what it's like in the NS/PM Household tonight? I reckon we'll get an angry combative NS tomorrow. I am absolutely no fan whatsoever of AS but he did remain very calm and measured with his account, I wonder if NS will be able to do the same?

Rishi and his bottomless wallet might be light relief at lunchtime!

noego · 02/03/2021 22:32

Surely if Scotland has a future whether in the union or out of it, it has to be led with people of integrity, dignity, honesty and competence.

She has to go!!

Indeed.
Bejazzled · 02/03/2021 22:40

On Sky News there , theyre still missing documents for all of November 2018 , particularly on the 13th when sturgeon sat down with the legal council a month before the case collapsed

jabbathebutt · 02/03/2021 22:41

I don't like a single one of the SNP and I had the misfortune in a previous job to come into contact with their MSPs and MPs often.

I don't think there's any of them that could save the party and no chance of Alex Salmond coming back. He'd be a fool to try.

Best guess - Forbes. She's one of the few senior ones who isn't coming across as a total clown

She's totally underexperienced but I could see them going for her.

I agree she's failed to develop a proper succession plan though.

Viviennemary · 02/03/2021 22:45

She really has brought the country, its parliament and evn its law courts into disrepute. She absolutely needs to go. No turning back from this.

Blurberoo · 02/03/2021 22:47

I’d be over the moon if Joanna Cherry became leader. So many MSPs need to go, though, it’ll be a greatly diminished party and a lot of cleaning up to do IF Sturgeon can be removed - so many high up SNP folk have stuck by Sturgeon despite presumably knowing all that’s gone on, even just rumours for quite a while. I can only assume because they were convinced she is their gravy train. Troughers and careerists. Wings was absolutely right all along.
