Just read the newsletter from local primary school about the partial return for next week...P3/4 composite class have to continue working remotely.

blowinahoolie · 19/02/2021 12:43

Tough toley if you have a child in P3 in the composite class it seems. Must be incredibly difficult for HT to keep everyone happy in this kind of situation.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 19/02/2021 12:48

My dentist has been advertising that they're doing check ups. We had ours (DCs and I) back in September so we'll be due another one soon. I'm also putting off due a hygienist visit, so they're doing their thing too. I don't know if folk are unaware that dentists are open, or if our practice is unusual.

Not heard tough toley for years!

I appreciate the school's issue in that the 3/4 teacher will still have P4s to teach remotely but that really isn't fair and surely it's ignoring govt guidelines that P3 should be in school?

I don't know what the answer is as presumably the other class (P3 or P2/3?) is full and can't accommodate another half class.

Sootess · 19/02/2021 13:06

We've all missed 2 dental check ups now, May and November. Had an email from them couple months ago to say they'd restarted check ups and working through the backlog!

Scottishskifun · 19/02/2021 13:06

Quite peeved off at the up date today again reiterating that parents shouldn't then socialise because their children are in school......
Who are these people who magically will be skipping about with their friends?!
All parents I know either then wfh or have other children to then look after and do home schooling with!

Hmm, that’s not the case in our local school. P3s in composite are returning. Would be v.unfair if not the same across Scotland?
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 19/02/2021 13:14

I can kind of see their logic. When I returned to work (teacher) I started going to a local cafe for a takeaway coffee, popping into the supermarket on the way home instead of doing one weekly shop, just generally getting more out and about. So I suppose they expect a similar thing to happen once the school run begins again. People arranging to meet up with different folk that they've not seen for a while, maybe in larger groups?

Bytheloch · 19/02/2021 13:18

Speaking of schools. Methinks JS and NS think all us parents with nursery, P1-3 children are about to kick off socially big time from Monday:

Deputy First Minister asks parents and carers to continue to work from home and urges people not to use the partial return to schools as an opportunity to meet up with other parents or friends

Seriously. The SwinneyBot is always brought out for the numptiest of announcements, I’m actually starting to feel sorry for him not really.

WannaCapybara · 19/02/2021 13:31

Daily Mail has furlough being extended until Summer.

Guess that tells us a bit more about timelines for opening up, i.e. later rather than sooner.

It's interesting that they've gone that way, when small single class primaries are opening to all ages
StarryEyeSurprise · 19/02/2021 13:39

Just reading about this and it gave me a laugh.

This billboard was unveiled on the same day it was announced that Scotland has given more first doses per pop than any country in Europe. Awkward!!

Re more children coming back to school. We've had a few instances of parents doings things which are really out of line.

Waverless · 19/02/2021 13:41

I would be raging if I had a p3 in a p3:4 composite class who couldn't go into school. Surely the most equitable thing would be to bring that whole class in? Minimal extra risk.

anon444877 · 19/02/2021 13:43

do tell starry, I'd love to hear about out of line parents. On Monday I will be working more hours to try and recoup lost money, and enjoying the relative peace of only having one kid at home, not beating it to the nearest park to meet up with friends and break rules.

anon444877 · 19/02/2021 13:44

I'm raging that P1-P3s in special schools aren't going back full time everywhere across Scotland.

It's a P1-P3 return for most children, but not all.

OldRailer · 19/02/2021 13:48

That's awful anon.

I wonder if that's not an option due to how the legislation is worded? No idea, just wondering.

Such as?
Where? What the hell can (only some) parents do from next Monday that is irresponsible and could be considered ‘socialising’. The majority are still caring for other children or clinging on to employment in some form.

Of course I'm not talking about parents going to the park!

We had children sent into school after being a close contact and then being taken out of school to get a test days later ( positive- several staff needing to isolate).

And we've just had a mum and child ( both tested positive) and the mum still sent the child into the hub. She went shopping! I was rather angry about that one even though I wasn't in when said child was. Don't know the full details yet, was just told by HT during a meeting.

That is terrible. Which councils aren't allowing asn children back?

I'm not unaware. I've been told ours is not doing checkups unless private. I've been phoning every 6 weeks or so, and that's been the case since it was announced they could open for some treatments in the autumn, I think. Must be, once again, a postcode lottery. Don't really rate our chances trying to find a practice to register at in a different postcode, though... Angry

Yeah. As others have pointed out, I'm pretty sure most parents won't have the time or headspace to do any illicit socialising. Was pretty shocked by the "if you've been working at home, carry on doing so" order too. I'm sure employers who have been making do by having employees who should be on site doing stuff at home will be absolutely fine with that...
WannaCapybara · 19/02/2021 14:14

Will I suppose it depends if employers are dicks or not; working from home should be a totally separate issue from kids being at home. I'm not working from home because my kids are here, I'm working from home because that's what's required right now under the law.

"employers must not ask or direct an employee to commit an offence by requiring travel for work which is possible to be done from home."

fluffyugg · 19/02/2021 14:14

That's awful for asn children and I'm surprised that some p3s are not getting back because they're in a 3/4. My dd is in p4 and is staying at home whilst the other half (p3) go back on Monday.

What, still?! That's shocking. How can that be allowed? Surely if P1-3 are back to in person learning, that should apply across Scotland, regardless of council area, type of school, class setup or whatever? Otherwise, what's to stop councils saying, hey, we can save some money by cutting down on classroom assistants, and janitors and heating classrooms by not bothering bringing children back for Reasons Very Specific To Our Situation, and having them continue to be remote...
