I just talked with DH about the positive test hospital releases and he said that sometimes they get patients with a positive test to take home and some they get with a "query covid" status. He asked what that is and apparently it's usually where the person had a positive test more than 28 days before and then they still test positive when they are being sent home but are unlikely to actually have covid. In fact he might have not even had it when he tested at first as he never had any symptoms and wasn't being treated for covid at any time.

@StarryEyeSurprise

Lol!

Re Glasgow, I must be reading it wrong but I think today's new cases are lower than Highland.

😂 Definitely reading it wrong Glasgow City was 158 cases, Highlands was 20 today.
NotAnActualSheep · 17/02/2021 20:40

@seeingdots

On hospital transmission - the latest figures published (for the week ending 17th January) are showing less than 4% of positive cases may have been acquired in hospital. I've no idea how robust the stats are but it doesn't sound like a large proportion of transmission is happening in hospitals, unless a lot has changed in the past month.

beta.isdscotland.org/find-publications-and-data/population-health/covid-19/hospital-onset-covid-19-cases-in-scotland/10-february-2021/

Yes, I was confused by that discrepancy, but someone pointed out that that meant of the reported "covid" hospital numbers, basically half had acquired it in hospital (so were brought in and being treated for something different - not complications of covid). And lots of those will need discharging while still infectious (and still being in need of nursing/ personal care), so with the risk of passing it to families/ carers in the community. Though fingers crossed that at least carers will now be getting the vaccine, so be less at risk from such scenarios.

@AgentCooper

On the subject of Ayrshire, obviously it’s terrible that things aren’t looking better and it’s frightening. But take a look at this picture created by the Irvine Times to illustrate the story. A big Covid particle literally rolling up the road into Ayrshire. It’s awful and I can’t stop looking at it 😂
Omg that picture really made me laugh. I find silly things funny though.
AgentCooper · 17/02/2021 21:04

@MissEliza I was knotting myself at it Grin The fact that it says ‘Welcome to Ayrshire,’ Grin

StarryEyeSurprise · 17/02/2021 21:16

Thanks @Scottishfun, knew I must be. 😂 It's been a long week already!

MissEliza · 17/02/2021 21:26

GrinThere's not much to laugh at these days so I'll take them when I can! I'm missing Gogglebox which was something to look forward to.

Cismyfatarse · 17/02/2021 21:46

I am so fed up.

Several rants.

  1. Will I be allowed to go to Northumberland for a holiday in late June? Can she stop me going to England if we are allowed to travel within Scotland?
  1. Corruption and the bloody enquiry into the Salmond case.
  1. Someone sent me chocolates which are full of nuts. I hate and am allergic to nuts.

Cheer me up with a new Fred title.

  1. DH is eating the chocolates very, very loudly. I will have to divorce him, won't I?

Just received an email, the letter clearly states that testing is just for staff! So I can go to work to collect my testing kits.

jabbathebutt · 18/02/2021 07:16

new fred title - tier we go again

(has NS said we'll be going back to tiers?)

Lockdownbear · 18/02/2021 07:23

Fred and Wilma are in Teirs!

I can't get over the association of Fred and Wilma.

AgentCooper · 18/02/2021 07:30

Tiers in Rain

I was watching Blade Runner last night Grin

Cismyfatarse · 18/02/2021 07:34

I am in key worker hub doing 1000 things at the same time today.

I vote for Fred and Wilma but can someone else start if we get to 950 or so?

It seems a bit premature this morning.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/19099491.covid-scotland-scottish-government-urged-define-covid-19-elimination-strategy/

And here we have it. Scotland is wanting to go for an elimination strategy with restrictions in place until cases are zero.

Yet Westminster has made it clear that's not the strategy they are pursuing so I have no idea how this is going to work. Business operations restricted with no compensation, maximum awkwardness all round and don't even think about leaving Scotland for the foreseeable?

anon444877 · 18/02/2021 08:07

@Cismyfatarse starting to wonder if we'll ever get to Northumberland again...

anon444877 · 18/02/2021 08:07

It won't work will it max it's just posited like that to widen the differences between 'Scotland' and 'abroad'.

MaxNormal · 18/02/2021 08:13

@anon444877 I don't personally see how. They don't have control over furlough and similar funding and its not like she can shut the border (can she?!).
I do forsee much stricter and longer lasting restrictions than England and a general air of puritanical misery and guilt tripping.

anon444877 · 18/02/2021 08:16

I rather think that's the point - she can harp on about how much harder controlling covid is because shackled to England and all the 'levers' they don't have in the run up to may.

Ooooh, I think that's the panel someone here has been on (I do know your name, but I think you only mentioned it under your old name so don't want to out you!) . You're famous!

That's from the report published by the panel I was on; it's out today and being discussed by the Covid 19 committee this morning.
AudacityOfHope · 18/02/2021 08:22

Oh hi @NotAnActualSheep Smile

Yeah that is literally the opinion of 20 members of the public so there's no 'she' wants, etc, about it. The committee are meeting with the government about the recommendations before they lay out the next steps of the plan next week, but at this point it's no more than a set of recommendations from the public.

NotAnActualSheep · 18/02/2021 08:37
Smile

Is the article a reasonably accurate summary of your discussions? I remember you saying there were 5 options, and the majority view on the panel was the second "harshest", but it sounds as if the report has gone for the most restrictions in preference? (or maybe that is elimination, and there was an even more restrictive one that I've forgotten). Did you have other experts to argue the case for the other positions, as well as DS for elimination?

It'll be interesting to see how much the SG pushes this as "what the people of Scotland who have been informed about the issues want"... Not that I'm dissing you Wink but 20 people who were interested enough to put themselves forward for the panel, and have been guided in their considerations by a chosen set of experts, each with their own opinions, is hardly representative.

StarryEyeSurprise · 18/02/2021 08:38

An elimination strategy has been used successfully by lots of countries, including those with borders with China.

The UK Government's strategy to do nothing until it's too late has had absolutely dire economic effects which has, I believe, resulted in the worst economic impact from Covid in Europe and possibly world wide. Also, as we know, the UK Government 's strategy has led to the highest human impact worldwide ( taking into account population).

I feel for families unable to see each other. I'm in this category. I don't think the article specifically relates to intra UK travel but I don't think.we should all have to suffer if, for example, the Government allowed cases to get to 1,000 plus per population in parts of the UK again.

There's been a few findings - from Italy, Israel and America - regarding there being more of an impact on children becoming seriously ill from Covid. I hope we don't see this here as we allow more children in school.

Sootess · 18/02/2021 08:41

But some of the best medical and scientific brains in the land are telling us we will have to live with Covid in the future, will become another treatable condition endemic in society......

MaxNormal · 18/02/2021 08:41

They implemented that a year ago. That ship has long sailed now not just for the UK but any country that has had high infection levels.
