I thought England was pushing to get stuff open for Easter?

fluffyugg · 17/02/2021 15:12

Blended learning indefinitely??...Us for Them are going nuts but I'm not surprised, that's a horrible prospect for our secondary kids 😕

StarryEyeSurprise · 17/02/2021 15:29

Yikes. Have they said that? They were going nuts last week re P1-3 not going back and they did so maybe it isn't not true. Or have I missed it...

fluffyugg · 17/02/2021 15:30

JS saying it will be needed for secondary pupils

If anyone fancies signing a petition, some councils (Edinburgh for one) have been particularly bad re re-opening of special schools :

@Lockdownbear according to that font of all wisdom the Daily Mail it'll be quite a cautious approach with pubs not till July.

I suppose unti the 22nd its all rumours and speculation anyway but I'd be very surprised if the pace wasn't cautious.

MissEliza · 17/02/2021 15:40

@anon444877 I think Boris was over eager last summer but he seems more measured in his approach now. He's realised he can't screw this up again.

Bluebeeee · 17/02/2021 15:43

Surely if 2m distancing is needed then the effort should be made to find more buildings to allow children to space out ? Rather than have them in part time.

Yes but then you'll need more staff.
AudacityOfHope · 17/02/2021 15:57

Ooh just checked Travelling Tabby and % of people vaccinated in Fife has more than doubled in the last week. We're no longer bottom of the table, hurray!

Bluebeeee · 17/02/2021 15:58

Well you might need more staff. Or it could just be logistics of arranging so that certain classes are in one building and other classes in another. If it’s a big enough building - church hall, sports halls etc. Then you could still have 30 kids and one teacher

ladylunchalot · 17/02/2021 16:21

@anon444877 thanks v much for that link - I have signed and shared it.

kurtrussellsbeard · 17/02/2021 16:22

Oh looks like Scotland's caught right up with the vaccination programme thank God!

Im not sure where I read this, but in some European countries they were using Art galleries, public buildings etc as classrooms for this reason. Would never happen here as it would take them so long to get their arse in gear and organise...
anon444877 · 17/02/2021 16:29

Thanks @ladylunchalot think there's some tweets and Facebook activity about it. Hope it gets some light shone on the situation.

Maybe the media will suggest that Scotland offers England support from the army to speed up their efforts 😁

I’m being a miserable git here but does anyone else find the lengthening days a bit crap? I quite liked it being dark earlier because at least the outside world looked different to how it did when I started work this morning. And I miss the snow and proper cold! Confused I know there’s snowdrops now but the kind of weather we’ve got in Glasgow today - grey and cold, bit damp - means this could be a day in February, October or bloody June.

Sorry, am just grumbling at all this stretching out. And I think March approaching is putting me in mind of when we first went into lockdown and we thought it would all be done with in 12 weeks.

If you want to impose the 2m rule within classes, you'll either need to put each class in much bigger rooms or make smaller classes. Our school looked into both options when schools re opened in England after the first lockdown, when we were still supposed to be social distancing. We couldn't find a workable solution. For example, parents suggested using the village hall. The main hall was big enough but the site wasn't secure. You'd have to spend a lot of time and money making it come up to the standard we'd expect in a school. Parents thought our head was being difficult and she got a lot of nasty emails about it, but it wasn't practical. As a result we were unable to open our year 6 class. I think the only way would be to cut class sizes and have children in on a part time basis. My gut instinct is that it's very disruptive for children's learning and some recent research has agreed with that.

I do think the March anniversary will be quite sobering.

I'm enjoying the lighter afternoons, although it's making me want to have more early evening wine.

No pubs till July? That will destroy the industry. Look at how many places nearly went under in the run up to Christmas. They'll have been hoping for a reasonably Easter but, failing that, they need their entire summer season. Do they now know how many people are employed by hospitality / pubs?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 17/02/2021 16:44

Not know obviously

Bluebeeee · 17/02/2021 16:48

I just don’t understand why while industries are being destroyed and children’s education are being ruined. When we still don’t have a properly functioning quarantine system for people coming in to the country. They need to get priorities right and the children aren’t being put first.

I don't know how BJ thinks it's going to work if furlough ends three months before pubs open...

On first jabs yes just don't look at the second jab data...... 🙄
StarryEyeSurprise · 17/02/2021 17:09

On UfT someone's pretending they've received an email saying their child will be tested in early years. Why do they constantly make things up?
