We've had to contact our MSPs about it. Even they were unable to give us clarity. It's a mess. What it's done is instantly put any Scottish residents who travel for work at a massive disadvantage in relation to their English/Welsh counterparts.
To have heard our first minister demanding from Westmister that Scottish residents are taken to a quaratine hotel and incarcerated while their English counterparts go home to their families is not something that's going to leave me in a hurry.

jabbathebutt · 14/02/2021 11:03

we may be ahead of other countries but they fact they still have a lot of catching up to do will also impact the virus figures here, unless they keep quarantine rules going all year. I'm getting really pissed off with the media and the backbenchers.

By all means, give us back outdoor hospitality, maybe some self catering holidays but don't lift everything til we are all jagged.

Scottishskifun · 14/02/2021 11:08

@icanboogieboogiewoogie definitely agree this comes in tomorrow and when asked about the exemptions list on Friday in the briefing it was we are looking at it..... 🙄

I have several friends who are offshore workers who don't have a clue whats happening they work in the Norwegian and Dutch sectors who are completely in the dark and now don't know if they still have jobs. They get tested before they leave, tested when they get home and now tested before they get on a plane home it's bonkers to then say they need to be in a hotel for 10 days after they have spent 2/3 weeks on a rig. That's really dangerous for mental health! I hope the Scottish government give clarity urgently!

anon444877 · 14/02/2021 11:11

I'm not sure Boris has the levels of competence required to be manipulative.

Yes to the lack of hope and lack of clarity @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us.

@rookiemere I buy the telegraph occasionally on the weekend because it reminds me of my dad and grandpa (my dad doesn't vote conservative either it just seems to be the paper they buy) but I'd never go so far as reading the news section or comment of it, strictly homes, gardens and cricket.

fluffyugg · 14/02/2021 11:27

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us yes, that's what I was meaning. We're really in the dark at the moment about schools and everything else. Hopefully get some clarity on that on Tuesday...good or bad

Pootle40 · 14/02/2021 11:27

I feel like just sleeping all day. I've hit the wall of boredom now.

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 11:38

How does quarantine work for truckers, if the driver needs to quarantine what happens to his load? and construction workers, many construction workers travel home every weekend or at a push every other weekend.

Like most other SG schemes they don't think them through.

Scottishskifun · 14/02/2021 11:50

@Lockdownbear assuming lorry drivers will be on an exemption list...... Unfortunately the Scottish government hasn't provided the revised list yet as they were examining it........ Unclear what will stay on the list and what won't with 12 hours to go!

MaxNormal · 14/02/2021 12:05

The uncertainly of this exemption list is absolutely unforgivable. I am so angry about this. It's people's literal lives and livelihoods that are being messed about with because Devi the Philosopher has had some fun theoretical ideas she gets to try out on the population at large.

Direwolfwrangler · 14/02/2021 12:06

I’m starting to get very frustrated with the journalists at each briefing. They are not asking the right questions at all. Last week there was so much focus on booking summer holidays, when really what they should be asking is when we can see a framework for reopening and what the thresholds etc will be.

anon444877 · 14/02/2021 12:09

Yes a bit more, what's the overall plan and key milestones and a bit less focusing on people's worst fears.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 14/02/2021 12:12

Yes, I agree that the media isn't doing anyone justice by trying to research and report important information.

Everything is just an attempt to grab a headline about the divide between BJ and NS. It's so facile.

fluffyugg · 14/02/2021 12:20

The questions from journalists are hardly worth listening to now.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 14/02/2021 12:23

Especially as it's almost every day! Once a week would do, but any dialling back now would be very obvious and noteworthy I think.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 14/02/2021 12:30

To be fair to Devi, there's no reason why the full implications of closing borders on for instance truckers, off shore workers, people who work across the border etc. should occur to her because its outside her area of expertise. Her recent comments about people having tantrums for not being able to go on holiday just highlight this lack of understanding of the bigger issues IMO. It's annoying that this doesn't stop her appearing all over the media though. This feeds into a bigger gripe I have about pandemic communications which is experts regularly stepping outside of their expertise areas to give their opinions on TV.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 14/02/2021 12:41

I think the premise of closing your borders so as to have a normal life inside them is a good one.

jabbathebutt · 14/02/2021 12:52

yes a lot of these health experts are enjoying their new found celebrity a bit too much imo

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 12:56

They sure are

But they need to get better lighting I think

Completely ignoring their messages here. Just thinking need better lighting and setups

Scottishskifun · 14/02/2021 13:12

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

I think the premise of closing your borders so as to have a normal life inside them is a good one.
Whilst I don't disagree with closing an international border for greater controls there are a few very specific industries where it is vital to still allow free travel (with testing in place). Unfortunately the SG has been slow on clarity for these leaving people in stressful situations.

I don't agree with "closing the border" between England and Scotland or NI.

jabbathebutt · 14/02/2021 13:16

Not Covid related but I found alcohol in my 13yo DDs room half an hour ago. Mini bottles of wine. She was out with a friend yesterday for a SD walk. She is out with friend again today. I'm fizzing (no pun intended). How do I handle this? DH says leave it to him but he's a softy.

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 13:23

I'm surprised she was daft enough to bring the empty bottles home, or do you mean full bottles?

I think I'd ask where they came from?
I'm thinking they must be full Seems odd to buy them and not drink them or did they buy and chicken out of trying it?

jabbathebutt · 14/02/2021 13:25

empty.

DH thinks its hilarious Hmm I don't know if she drank them in her room

Wbeezer · 14/02/2021 13:34

Last summer My 16 year went off the rails in a rather spectacular way in a one off naive experiment with illicit substances, we grounded him until Christmas which was hard as he'd only just been allowed out after the first lockdown but felt we had to come down hard as it was so bad (police involvement). This situation is definitely causing youngsters to do things out of boredom /fatalism that they would not resort to in normal circs. Reducing the influence of the friend he was hanging out with has meant no repeat of the issue.
Its hard being tough when their life is a bit rubbish but i think she needs banned from going out with her friend for a while.even a short time of you feel it would be too hard on her mental health at this time.

MaxNormal · 14/02/2021 13:39

I think the premise of closing your borders so as to have a normal life inside them is a good one

I don't see how it's a particularly feasible one. The UK is massively reliant on imports and a major international transit hub, our society and economy is not set up for long-term border closures. It's also inhumane - there are many people who, thanks to years of freedom of movement, have structured their lives around international travel and loved ones in other countries. It's completely unfair to pull the rug out from under them and the lives they built in good faith as a long-term strategy.

It also sounds bloody miserable. Who wants to be stuck on one little island for years on end?

I suppose it's easy for the SNP to posture about it - let England take the hit for all the goods coming in at Kent etc but play at being strict. Not sure what the legalities are of attempting to close a land border with the rest of the UK are but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 13:40

She brought home the empties??
Give her credit for not being a litter bug.Smile

I think you and DH need to discuss how you approach it.
But I'd be asking questions who's idea, where did they get the money etc

I didn't think it was legal to drink in public places in Scotland so a reminder of the law and risk of being caught.

At 16 shes not a kick in the bum off drinking legally so chat about responsible drinking and risks of getting taken advantage of being drunk etc.
