Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

Also last year I don't recall numbers going up because of English holidays, because really when cases are low UK wife and there were fairly tight restrictions on what you could actually do, there's little opportunity for them to go up. Apart from that group who all went down in a bus to Blackpool to watch football or something.

Hey ho I've booked Scottish back ups for everything anyway. I'll crack open the shortbread and bring along the tartan flask and blanket and we'll have our modest wee holiday. Possibly. If Nicola lets us. Maybe just oatcakes in case shortbread is too decadent. Talking of which our neighbour has just deposited a vast bag of home baking- obviously I'm going to use a stick to move it outside and set fire to it because of the covid risk.

GoldenOmber · 16/02/2021 16:01

Sorry about your colleague StatisticallyChallenged.

I do agree. I’m not one of the anti-lockdown crowd, I’m in favour of lockdowns for the emergency situation we were in, but they should be the exception not the rule. Once we’ve got everyone vaccinated and it’s no more dangerous than flu, these hellish restrictions on normal life are surely just not justified any more.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/02/2021 16:02

Sorry to hear about your colleague @StatisticallyChallenged. It's just too sad :( Lets all concentrate on stopping perfectly healthy young adults getting a virus that might make them unwell for a few days though.

GoldenOmber · 16/02/2021 16:09

@WaxOnFeckOff

Someone cause a distraction on the motorway and the rest of us can leg it down the backgrounds at Gretna disguised as sheep or something.

We just need the folk standing on the border with their placards telling English folk to go home, to be infiltrated by one person shouting that TWA not W and the police will be sent to deal with it pronto - Knowing my luck, we'll still be in the Melrose toffee shop at that point stocking up for the trip... :o

“It’s 2027. Scotland is still in lockdown. There have been no cases of covid identified anywhere in the country for four years, and 99.2% of the population have had at least eight doses of the vaccine. As Nicola Sturgeon pleads with the public to stay patient for just a little bit longer, Police Scotland are rushing to the border in Dumfries and Galloway to investigate a case of a woman who was overheard saying that mixed sex hospital wards were going ‘a bit far really’. While the Berwick checkpoint is left undefended, a brave band of rebels stages a breakout...”

You win today @GoldenOmber

It's stuff like this we have been missing.

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 16:22

Grin 2027? Faints.

MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 16:22

@GoldenOmber superb Grin

Are they having another punt at Zero Covid then, is that it? Another pish, miserable summer in pursuit of that particular Pet Theory?

Or is it just more of the swinging dick stuff vs Westminster?

titsbumfannythelot · 16/02/2021 16:22

Surely we'll have another first minister by then? Sad

StopTouchingYourFairyGarden · 16/02/2021 16:26

Golden Grin

I missed the briefing and can't find the information anywhere - are private nurseries allowed to reopen on Monday? For pre-schoolers I presume so, but for babies and toddlers? You may detect a hint of desperation in my voice.

So if anyone has booked a Scottish holiday, what have you booked? I feel like I should book something to 'look forward to' but I can barely muster the energy to look.

I can actually hardly string thoughts together at the moment. Has anyone else gone a bit stupid? I made a mistake in my work last week because I didn't count to 3 correctly in relation to something important. THREE! Confused

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 16:29

That's both hilarious and depressing @GoldenOmber.

The staycation bit before school announcement was that not UK wide? Was there stuff about not travelling to England that I missed?

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/02/2021 16:29

Aye, but we might have one as badly mixed up in the current mire and who is quite happy to keep with the current uberwoke approach

"It's 2030 and scientists are studying the phenomenon whereby native Scots have turned translucent. Many claim this is due to the prolonged lockdown and that sunlight will help but they are branded conspiracy theorists. The public are urged to report and facebook groups or twitter threads disseminating these dangerous ideas."

Fuck knows. Either way, I think it’s going to backfire pretty fast if Boris throws everything open when enough have been vaccinated that there isn’t another huge wave of covid, and meanwhile up here they’re still taking tippy-toe careful steps towards maybe possibly letting us go to Largs on a weekend if we promise not to talk to anyone when we’re there.

Most people have made sacrifices to save Granny and protect the hospitals from getting overwhelmed. But most people will not be willing to close down their lives indefinitely because they might end up with a bad cough for a couple of weeks, if they catch the wrong variant of covid after being vaccinated and it doesn’t work against mild symptoms. Most people can barely be arsed to pay £14 for a Boots flu vaccine in ordinary years.

Given the attitude to England I would assume it's Scotland only
Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 16:30

And I am very relieved early years are back, but it sucks for anyone with kids over P3. More stress for 2 weeks...

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 16:32

Mistakes I've made at work? About a million. I managed to make data input mistakes last week and get someone else on the team bleeped on a weekend morning for a production call.

GoldenOmber · 16/02/2021 16:32

I don’t think she said about rest of UK - she said that for Easter it was unlikely there’d be any holidays either in Scotland or abroad, but by summer it ‘might’ be possible to have ‘staycations’.

anon444877 · 16/02/2021 16:36

She said no holidays at Easter 'either overseas or within Scotland' and for the summer, staycations may be possible.

I read that as Scotland only based on her preceding wording about Easter but maybe she can't enforce that and that's why summer mentions 'staycation' but not whether that includes ruk or not...

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/02/2021 16:37

Yeah it wasn't explicit but I inferred it from the distinction between Scotland and abroad.

GoldenOmber · 16/02/2021 16:50

Oh I’ve made so many stupid mistakes at work. I feel like I’m functioning with half my brain off at the moment.

Groovee · 16/02/2021 16:53

So I'm home. I'm back to normal next week. But colleagues with P6's have no breakfast club and can't drop off before 8.50, but we start at 8am 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ then after school clubs are not open... so we finish at 4 and they are expected to collect their children at 3.15. So how can you staff nursery if they staff have no one?

fluffyugg · 16/02/2021 16:55

I'm hopping over to rail a bit...I know this has been said many, many times. But I still cannot get my head round the strong possibility that this Summer will be more restrictive than last Summer. Imagine last July if we'd been told that most/ all of the adult population would be vaccinated by Summer 2021...and yet we're looking at 'maybe' a staycation in Scotland. What am I missing?

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/02/2021 16:56

@Groovee Christ! This is my issue there just isn't any joined up thinking. Of course parents need breakfast and after care!

Being held in your country of residence with no checkpoint to stop you leaving, other than being verbally ‘telt’ by an ambitious politician- no thank you.
MaxNormal · 16/02/2021 16:59

I can't concentrate on work at all. My productivity is horrible. I haven't slept well for weeks either and have black rings under my eyes which would look Junkie Chic if I wasn't a fat cunt thanks to lockdown.
