Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

Are you very rural, Stop? Councils have had enough time to get out and grit or clear all roads by now.

DeepfriedPizza · 13/02/2021 09:55

What are we all up today? Sitting watching movies and going for a walk? What the fuck else is there to do?

WouldBeGood · 13/02/2021 09:55

@rookiemere that’s all a bit pants.

I cried watching Rick Stein at a French market last night, as I thought I’ll never get to do those lovely things again.

@DeepfriedPizza I’m a bit hungover after said crying at the telly so think I’ll just stay in bed. DS is at his usual station online gaming with his friends, so I’m redundant!

Will take the dogs out later in the grey icy weather

Pretty useless here. A local farmer came and ploughed the whole town, which helped but what was left is now compacted and very slippy

Sewing - making clothes that at this rate will never be seen!

I love rick stein - if there is ever a series of part cooking part travelogue programmes to make you cry your eyes out about holidays, that's the one would. Let's hope we get some sort of record breaking sunny summer with a nice early spring...

anon444877 · 13/02/2021 10:01

what am I doing? Watching the cricket, and putting off mopping the floor. I'm on the fence about whether a sortie to the supermarket is worth it. Oooooh rock and roll!

rookiemere · 13/02/2021 10:02

@DeepfriedPizza currently trying to sum up enthusiasm to go to garage gym.
May walk overwalked dog for 3368th time this afternoon or find a friend to walk with. Possibly have M&S valentines meal tonight as planning to have fish and chips from Newhaven fish and chip shop tomorrow for a change of scene. If eating food from a cardboard box inside a freezing cold car in the dreecht midwinter doesn't scream romance, I don't know what does.

DeepfriedPizza · 13/02/2021 10:18

We were going to have a Chinese tomorrow but we’ve decided just to have it tonight for a bit of spontaneity.
I might try to take the dog somewhere different today.

Dd (10) is starting to get fed up with it all. She now just spends all her time watching tv or on her iPad. I’ve told her she can kick the snowman down if she wants. That cheered her up for a minute

Unfortunately we have hilly side streets to get to the main road which are posing some issues, but even on the ploughed main road my hopeless car skidded! It's a fancy new 4x4 mercedes and it was very efficient at bleeping loudly at me and showing me a diagram of which wheels were skidding, but actually driving? Not so much Confused

I'll try again today as we really need to get to the shops to pick up some supplies.

Fish and chips sounds good, rookie. It's ages since I've had that! You meaning Newhaven next to Trinity/Leith? We used to live next to the Gold Sea on Ferry Road in Leith and then moved to a posher part of Leith and went to the one at the Shore, Pierinos. Then we got extremely posh and moved out to Joppa and went to the St Andrews takeaway in Porty. I can plot our rising social status through chip shops Grin

@StopTouchingYourFairyGarden yes that's where I mean. Owner of Ondines has opened a fish and chip shop there and it's meant to be good.

Unfortunately we got a bank statement yesterday and whilst on paper we should be well off, even with not going on holiday and out for dinner we seem to be spending above our means due to DH changing from contractor to permie just before lockdown. I don't expect anyone to get the worlds smallest violin out to commiserate with us as I appreciate just how lucky we are that he got a job at that point and we're certainly not impoverished, but it does mean that we'll need to start forgoing small pleasures that make life tolerable at the minute like lottery tickets and yummy things from M&S.

Hopefully we can still afford expensive fish and chips though!

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/02/2021 10:38

I can beat that @StopTouchingYourFairyGarden - we moved out of town and our old chipper promptly closed down Blush

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/02/2021 10:39

I've treated myself to a shower and clean clothes and will actually blow dry my hair. Only because I need to leave soon to collect my grocery order. Can't remember the last time I wore makeup or perfume though. Not that I'm putting it on now you understand but noticed it as its next to the hairdryer.

Oh that sounds amazing! That is a shame though, rookie. It is hard to think even small pleasures and treats have to be given up just now. Things that used to be free 'treats' like seeing friends for a cup of tea or a walk on the beach are either impossible or have lost their appeal at the moment.

anon444877 · 13/02/2021 10:49

I won the lottery last night - £2.50! My latest wheeze is also entering win a cottage raffles, at the moment I'm hoping for a nice cottage in snowdonia (which I wouldn't then be able to visit but whatever).

I sympathise rookie I've made that switch out of contracting to perm and back to contracting and thinking to go perm again and it's painful.

Lidlfix · 13/02/2021 11:06

My Dsis and I go for a walk on Saturdays as despite being in different authorities we are not 5 miles from "border". The moanfest is therapeutic and getting to see my under 12 nephews and be silly is a tonic. Then DH DDs and I will get started on the cocktails and one of us stay fit to drive for the take away. But fuck me we will need to walk fast as that wind chill factor Shock

WouldBeGood · 13/02/2021 11:18

@anon444877 can’t believe we now have lottery winners on here!

@Lidlfix enjoy the walk and cocktails. Now you mention it, that might be the answer to my slightly jaded feeling. Later, not now!

  • hopefully my luck will rub off on you! Except slightly better luck than winning lucky dips or the odd £5!
Wbeezer · 13/02/2021 11:23

I paired up most of the solo socks in the laundry backlog this morning, top that for excitement!

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/02/2021 11:27

I'm making dh a t shirt as a valentine's present, but having just cut it out it's possible that my fabric choice isn't conveying the right message for the day...Blush

We attempted the park this morning but with the wind chill even wrapped up it was unbearably cold.
Now getting takeaway churros and going home to watch a movie.
