Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

@theotherfossilsister

We are also male factor (I wrote IVF as not everyone knows what I DO is, but both our babies are ICSI babies). Ours is very severe - 99% antisperm antibodies. They told us we would literally never, ever conceive and even our ICSI had a poor chance. So we've never used protection since 2011, but never had a whisper of anything before.

I really hope all goes well for you. I almost didn't post as I know very well the internal storm that accompanies the 'aunty's dogs postman's sister thought she couldn't conceive and had twins' type stories, and you're expected to smile and nod even though you know it won't happen for you.

We were treated at EFREC as we lived in Edinburgh when we started our treatment in 2015. We now live somewhere else but have 2 frozen embryos still at EFREC.

Sorry - back to covid moaning... Grin

theotherfossilsister · 11/02/2021 21:52

Ah, thank you. We're on the waiting list for EFREC too. Very similar prognosis to you. Were vaguely thinking of going private at GCRM as November is so long.

But your story is amazing, and gives me hope.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/02/2021 22:15

Well, i'v just been bold and booked a week in the Lake District self catering for June so fingers crossed now.

What do we think the chances are of a hotel stay and dinner out in later April somewhere in Scotland? No chance?

titsbumfannythelot · 11/02/2021 22:29

Not sure Wax, but Nicola will be the first to tell us we can do that.

If she's going to make all my decisions for me, I wish she'd start with the mundane ones.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/02/2021 22:31

yeah, i might message and ask what I can have for dinner tomorrow cos honestly having to decide that every day is doing my head in! :o

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/02/2021 22:33

Can anyone remember the whole "adult conversation"? What happened to that?

Laughing at Jim Sillars saying not to vote SNP. Obvs he's a Salmond man but can you imagine the ex deputy of any other party saying that.

It makes I laugh so it do

titsbumfannythelot · 11/02/2021 22:37

That's the very mundane decision I was thinking about Grin
WouldBeGood · 11/02/2021 23:01

@WaxOnFeckOff might be possible as long as there’s no alcohol

WouldBeGood · 11/02/2021 23:04

I got all my children by accident in three different ways. Had a nice naming day in the garden for the two youngest. DSS was the wine waiter, getting our ancient neighbour hammered 😂

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 11/02/2021 23:30

Just thinking a couple of nights in Edinburgh and a meal out and a nice breakfast in a cafe. I'd even not complain about no alcohol. It's about 10 weeks away. I just can't get over not thinking i'll be able to go out for dinner in 10 weeks time. It's Ds1s 21st in July and we can't even plan to do anything beyond a meal out with just our household.

WouldBeGood · 11/02/2021 23:36

@WaxOnFeckOff this is the stuff that gets me down.

I do care about no alcohol. For myself 😳and also for the pubs and restaurants.

littlbrowndog · 12/02/2021 00:00

Oh my 3 were accidents as well 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Here we are you would think I would have spotted what caused the accident

Can’t even blame lockdown 😂

BlueThursday · 12/02/2021 06:28

I hate that advert about looking patients in the eye.

Clearly every single one of us have broken a “rule” at some point including the FM and her then CMO. We are all trying bloody hard though and this ad just doesn’t help at all

WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 07:26

I think that advert is really horrible. It has the opposite effect than intended on me, as I loathe the attempt to manipulate. I’d like to make one with people who have suffered in other ways..

Cheered ourselves up with a takeaway burger from a local restaurant last night - delicious.

We're getting this as a valentine's dinner, can't wait Grin

I've actually ordered a Home by Nico box as a surprise for DH but I missed all the valentine's availability so we'll have a nice dinner at home next week. Anyone tried one?

I avoid all adverts and switch over the radio when they come on. They're SO gloomy. I understand there has to be public health information etc but it makes me feel all panicky.

titsbumfannythelot · 12/02/2021 07:56

My dh ordered the valentines Paris menu, really looking forward to it.

I avoid all the adverts too.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 12/02/2021 08:37

Oh good, I've found my people! Grin

Someone (possibly on Scotsnet?) shared the image that we're all in the same storm on different boats, which I think is so apt. I think different things are getting to us in different boats. Here in my boat, I want to know: when I can have people in my home so I don't have to "socialise" in the effing cold with a grumpy toddler, when I can see my parents (in England) and when the fuck we'll see my parents-in-law (overseas). I just need to KNOW so badly. Some days I just feel like having a tantrum like my wee girl: I want my mum!!

The quarantine hotels have left me feeling so down. I understand the need for quarantine but the cost is so excessive and so deeply, deeply unfair on ordinary people for whom that cost is just impossible to bear. I want my daughter to see her grandparents and I can't see that happening for a long time.

RaspberryCoulis · 12/02/2021 08:43

The "look them in the eye" advert is just victim blaming. You got Covid? Then it's clearly your fault. You broke the rules, you didn't "stay safe" and now look what's happened! You're putting all the brave, hero NHS staff at risk too, you selfish covidiot. Hmm What a load of bollocks.

DS is meeting up with a friend today for skateboarding, it's bloody freezing and they'll probably end up inside the friend's house. Don't care. His sister informed me last night that one of her friends is planning a "dinner party" around the patio heater tonight in their garden, it's her job to provide "dessert" so could I please buy some doughnuts? Height of sophistication for 15 year olds - microwaved soup then ready meals (handed out by mum from the kitchen window) and doughnuts. Good for them.

LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 08:44

The cost IS astronomical.
I'd prefer barracks at a discount!

RaspberryCoulis · 12/02/2021 08:46

We had home by Nico the first lockdown - a French themed one - and have a Hebrides one coming later in the month.

It's really very good, the food is lovely and all prepped for you with full instructions. Most of it just needs reheated, and the instructions are very easy to follow. Loads of food, a full packet of crackers and a massive lump of cheese. It's a great treat when you can't go out.

Our local pizza place are doing kits too - 4 sourdough balls, mozzarella and tomato sauce - then you can add whichever toppings you want. Kids love that one.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 12/02/2021 08:49

Thanks for the heads up about your thread @WouldBeGood.

I getting to the point of being scared about the toll this is all taking on peoples mental health. All these constant reminders about how sick you may get if you get it, mean that people who go do succumb are terrified. I can no longer listen to commercial radio, listening to the “can you look a health worker in the eye” wtaf, I’m a health worker I hate the thought that I would judge like that. It’s disgusting. People should be helped to cope, not berated and hounded on every source of media available.

We NEED some hope, some idea of how we come out of this. Some sense of perspective.

WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 08:59

@LetItGoGo I’ll take barracks especially if they leave the soldiers 😂

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 12/02/2021 09:02

Yes, hope is what we need. Depressingly, o now agree with David Blunkett who’s written a really good article in the Daily Mail today. (I can’t believe I’m writing these words😱)

And for cook at home meals, the best ones we’ve had have been from Le Petit Cochon in Finnieston 🐷

OP posts:
LetItGoGo · 12/02/2021 09:08

The meals is something I'm going to look into for my DH's birthday.

I always hoped that when the kids left home I'd combine eating out with home meals of cheese, crackers and an apple! They think I like cooking but it's all a facade!
