Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care?

Evidence of a conspiracy to frame Alex Salmond has been building. There are compelling reports in the Times, Herald , Sky News and across the internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'm Scottish but I don't live there. I've been hooked by this as a story of power and corruption. I'm on the fence re independence, just don't know enough so don't have an axe in that debate. I've never been an SNP member. But I do care about justice and that no-one should be above the law, especially politicians when they are seeking to imprison their potential rivals.

After reading this affadavit from Craig Murray which brings it all together and is incendiary I'm pretty convinced there has been a conspiracy and that Sturgeon and her collaborators should face justice. Although the justice department (Crown office) also seem to be mired in this. Here is the affadavit www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2021/01/my-sworn-evidence-on-the-sturgeon-affair/

I've shown this to a few people and have been shocked that a couple have said, yes it stinks but I like Sturgeon. I'd be interested in the views of Scotsnet. How much do you know about this? Do you care? Is it OK for our politicians to imprison their rivals, like Putin and co do, if you like their other objectives. Has Scotland become a corrupt nation? Is that OK?

Interesting hearing Salmond's take on the "why" - as there's been a lot of discussion about it. His view seems to be that the accusations to the police were in an attempt to kill off the judicial review as if he was convicted the JR would be irrelevant and this committee would never have met

Asked if he things NS was involved in the "conspiracy" - he says he has no evidence and he has decided only to make statements that can be backed up by documentary evidence so he has specifically not included her. (I'm paraphrasing!)

anon444877 · 26/02/2021 18:02

I suspect he's right there, not so much interest in a JR if he'd been found guilty, so even if it had gone ahead it would've been hardly covered.

The Twitter nationalist line seems to be 'well the tories are still worse' 😀

LexMitior · 26/02/2021 18:05

The Tories are not worse. Either they are much better at hiding this sort of thing or shock horror they know about separation of powers and don't do it.

Seriously the SNP are in league of their own.

The biggest bloody problem with politics - too much finger pointing, not enough accountability

ilovebrie8 · 26/02/2021 18:16

I’m no fan of Alex Salmond or the SNP, and dislike NS but he is very credible and I think he is telling the truth...just watched snippets on the news ! I think they want to bury him it’s shameful

LexMitior · 26/02/2021 18:24

It has been interesting watching Salmond and noting how much better on detail he is than NS and how much more articulate he is. I suppose he hasn't been around really for some years in public but he is "better" than her. He also looks very calm and collected, measured.

NS is really one note by comparison, looking harassed and her comments yesterday in Parliament were awful to Ruth Davidson. Emotional tone which I don't say lightly because its thrown at a woman often to diminish her but NS uses emotion aggressively - quite different and a bit cheap really.

His statement was very interesting too, on the constitutional nature of Scotland and his time as FM. Good angle. I remember why he was so successful now.

derxa · 26/02/2021 18:25

We've watched the committee proceedings in their entirety. Six bloody hours of grilling. Alex has an extraordinary grasp of facts. Where are the Scottish politicians of this calibre now?

Coquohvan · 26/02/2021 18:26

Regardless what colour of rosette or who you are; it is the being held to account of wrong doing that matters. It’s the government and various agencies conduct that seems so wrong here. Hopefully it will bode well for any Scottish Government conduct going forward. Deceitful unlawful tactics to get someone imprisoned is so wrong.

Did you read Salmond's statement - it would seem quite the opposite. He really inferred that NS had actually allowed a sort degeneration in constitutional basics to build her power. It is very bad indeed.
Albless · 26/02/2021 18:30

I just watched the last 45 mins or so, and agree with previous posters that Alex Salmond came across extremely well - composed, clear, articulate and knowledgeable.

And I say that as someone who is not an SNP supporter and never really had much time for AS. But yes, a politician of an entirely different calibre from the current bunch.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 18:31

Derxa so true.

Sexnotgender · 26/02/2021 18:41

That was RIVETING.

I only managed to see about an hour and a half but agree AS came over very well.

Will be interesting to see what else comes out.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 18:44

The full thing is on youtube.

This is fascinating, I'm close to the end I think

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 26/02/2021 18:46

I posted on the wrong thread. He is very credible. I never thought I'd find myself sympathising with Alex Salmond.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 18:47
Coquohvan · 26/02/2021 18:59

My point @Lex is that no political party should get away with this. Yes 100% agree NS has to take ownership of her terrible actions, her and others AS mentioned having disregard of Ministerial Code is clear (Chrystal) with his evidence and proof to back it up.
No party or FM should ever be able to do this again.

Graffitiqueen · 26/02/2021 19:03

I never thought I'd say this but I'm starting to believe AS.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 26/02/2021 19:05

I still can't really understand what the endgame is here? Am I right in thinking that AS is saying scotgov are corrupt, the crown office, the lord advocate and the civil service?

I believe him which I can't believe I am saying.

Sexnotgender · 26/02/2021 19:08

Me neither.

He’s certainly not unbelievable. He came across very well today.

anon444877 · 26/02/2021 19:09

The bit at the end with 40 (?) other documents he's not been allowed to share...seems he wants civil service, lord advocate resignations and an acknowledgement that NS broke the code to me.

Selkiesarereal · 26/02/2021 19:12

I’m not surprised that he was very credible and a good orator. There are two things to remember, he took the snp from a minority party in Scotland to a party that had enough credibility to hold a referendum.

Secondly, he cut his teeth in Westminster which is a much more dog eat dog, combative environment compared to Holyrood, NS has never served there. In order to survive and appear credible there you need to be the consummate politician.

Still don’t like him nor trust him, but he’s good at what he does.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 19:15

I know politicians are all big fat liars most of the time but I think I agree. At minimum I'd say he believes what he is saying (re malicious scheme as I think he put it) and he certainly stood up to a shitload of crappy questions

Maureen Watt in particular was very disrespectful (and regardless of their beliefs I think questions should be respectful unless the witness is being obstructive, which he wasn't), Alasdair Allan appeared to have the brain power of a demented squirrel, Fabiani was trying to appeared a bit less biased at times (mainly when she could seem unbiased by telling off ACH), Wightman acts sensible for a few minutes then his mask slips...Cole Hamilton, just WTF! IT's bad when Murdo Fraser looked sensible, and Jackie Baillie looked like a genius by comparison.

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 26/02/2021 19:19

Anyone see RD on c4 news? Called AS a dreadful misogynist and appalling man.

Graffitiqueen · 26/02/2021 19:23

I can't believe ACH asked about currency in an Indy Scotland. 🤦‍♀️ cringe

Dinnafashyersel · 26/02/2021 19:24

Didn't watch it all but for me ACH was doing a decent job of asking the sort of open questions which allowed AS to make his case. So on that basis I thought he played it exactly right. Agree on all the rest though.

More fuel for the fire per Nick Eardley:
As the committee hearing continues, a legal order has been issued to the Crown Office seeking documents Mr Salmond believes shows a conspiracy against him.
