Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care?

Evidence of a conspiracy to frame Alex Salmond has been building. There are compelling reports in the Times, Herald , Sky News and across the internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'm Scottish but I don't live there. I've been hooked by this as a story of power and corruption. I'm on the fence re independence, just don't know enough so don't have an axe in that debate. I've never been an SNP member. But I do care about justice and that no-one should be above the law, especially politicians when they are seeking to imprison their potential rivals.

After reading this affadavit from Craig Murray which brings it all together and is incendiary I'm pretty convinced there has been a conspiracy and that Sturgeon and her collaborators should face justice. Although the justice department (Crown office) also seem to be mired in this. Here is the affadavit www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2021/01/my-sworn-evidence-on-the-sturgeon-affair/

I've shown this to a few people and have been shocked that a couple have said, yes it stinks but I like Sturgeon. I'd be interested in the views of Scotsnet. How much do you know about this? Do you care? Is it OK for our politicians to imprison their rivals, like Putin and co do, if you like their other objectives. Has Scotland become a corrupt nation? Is that OK?

Robert Black, emeritus professor of public law at Edinburgh University, said: “It appears on the face of it that a faction within the Crown Office is out of control and engaged in a personal campaign or vendetta.”

So that's Glasgow and Edinburgh professors of public law both speaking out but according to the nice wee Prof "Wheesht No-Names No Pack-Drill" from Callie we're all being silly.

Anyone watching the committee? AS is brutal.

maggiehilltop · 26/02/2021 12:44

I'm watching it. I've never been an AS fan, but I think he is spot on.

Viviennemary · 26/02/2021 12:52

I've never liked him either. But he is coming across very well and is very credible. I'm not watching all of it.

Selkiesarereal · 26/02/2021 12:55

If it is true that there are those who go by the wheesht for independence then they should hang their heads in shame. Turning a blind eye to assaults on democracy should always be challenged as history shows us.

Gosh when I hear Alex Salmond speak I am reminded what a great orator he is.

Yes. I'm finding this hard going but it's mesmerising.
littlbrowndog · 26/02/2021 13:21

Where is it on ?

beepbeeprichie · 26/02/2021 13:23

Channel 504 on Sky @littlbrowndog

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 13:26

Scottishparliament tv website too .

Just listened to opening statement.

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2021 13:29

👍

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 26/02/2021 13:32

AS opening statement skilfully summarises all the concerns about Scottish democracy and it’s great institutions being threatened.

Doesn’t matter if you like AS, NS or SNP or not.
This is powerful stuff.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 26/02/2021 13:34

I heard AS speak at our law ball several years ago.

I don’t like the man but is a brilliant speaker and very clever. I believe him over NS and her slimy entourage.

Agreed - he is a compelling speaker.
XDownwiththissortofthingX · 26/02/2021 13:39

Wonder if the media will bother to acknowledge that Salmond himself has just reiterated that he does not believe Nicola Sturgeon has ever been a part of any conspiracy against him.

Agree, he cut through the bull quite effectively. Very clearly made the points about him not being "on trial" so to speak.
2bazookas · 26/02/2021 13:44

@Tamingofthehamster

No one who wants independence will care less. It’s all about independence to them so they’ll just keep quiet about it. I think AS seems like a slimy git, so wasn’t surprised by the allegations, but if it is a set up, it just shows how rotten the SNP is generally.
On the contrary; anyone who wants Scottish Independence is absolutely horrified to see Salmond and Sturgeons behaviour.

Both threaten to totally derail the SNP , and undermine any confidence in its integrity or competence to run an independent country. That's a disaster for Independence.

Scotland has Parliamentary elections in May, and the SNP platform has been that if they get elected they will pursue another Indyref , therefore every SNP vote equals a vote for Independence.

Now voters have to wonder if a vote for SNP equals support for political and legal corruption of the worst kind. If they don't get a credible answer to that by May, many won't take that risk.

I think this stramash will cost the SNP the election. So goodbye to another Indyref.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/02/2021 13:52

Scotland has Parliamentary elections in May

Off topic, but I really don't think it should. Parties can't campaign normally, and parties and voters need that. (Terminal floating voter here!)

I know the election was timetabled, but it's prioritising the ritual of democracy over actual democracy.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 14:04

I'm at the point where Maureen Watt is asking (repeatedly) about the need for a specific sexual harassment policy. She's like a dog with a bone but is not coming across well, or sounding unbiased to me

Agreed. I also though Alex Cole Hamilton came across badly.
littlbrowndog · 26/02/2021 14:08

This is fascinating

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 14:08

Ooft, she just strayed way over the line there (question about the complaint against him resolved by an apology)

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2021 14:11

Literally just come to ACH. His first question...wtf?
