Does it matter if Sturgeon is guilty - do you know or care?

Evidence of a conspiracy to frame Alex Salmond has been building. There are compelling reports in the Times, Herald , Sky News and across the internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'm Scottish but I don't live there. I've been hooked by this as a story of power and corruption. I'm on the fence re independence, just don't know enough so don't have an axe in that debate. I've never been an SNP member. But I do care about justice and that no-one should be above the law, especially politicians when they are seeking to imprison their potential rivals.

After reading this affadavit from Craig Murray which brings it all together and is incendiary I'm pretty convinced there has been a conspiracy and that Sturgeon and her collaborators should face justice. Although the justice department (Crown office) also seem to be mired in this. Here is the affadavit www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2021/01/my-sworn-evidence-on-the-sturgeon-affair/

I've shown this to a few people and have been shocked that a couple have said, yes it stinks but I like Sturgeon. I'd be interested in the views of Scotsnet. How much do you know about this? Do you care? Is it OK for our politicians to imprison their rivals, like Putin and co do, if you like their other objectives. Has Scotland become a corrupt nation? Is that OK?

It really just gets worse and worse. I wonder if it will come to a head or be kicked into the long grass?

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 15:54

other than the pet judiciary, it's awful that they used victim protection as an accuse for something that's pure politics. TBH, the excuse is worse than the lie, there's such a huge credibility gap for women being listened to and Nicola has done them a further disservice here.

Graffitiqueen · 24/02/2021 15:55

yes she was on very thin ice with what she said today imho.

Given she has always refused to answer non covid related questions in her briefing before it makes her look really rattled.

Although I didn't agree with her stance on indy, I used to admire her and be proud we had such a canny politician in Scotland. What has happened to her?!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 16:04

Lord advocate has just said he was not consulted on the letter. Says it was made independently by professional prosecutors.

Says he received a copy after it was sent

Baillie says that before the case went back to Lady Dorrian (spectator case) the sole concern was one paragraph so what's changed?

LA says the crown only cares about protecting the anonymity. Quite waffling, does not sound like a senior lawyer here

Claims crown has no interest in interfering with parliament, only with securing compliance with court order.

He appears to be reading a lot.

Basically not much use to my ears, he dodged a fair bit.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 16:05

I'm no fan of Nicola, but I suspect she's absolutely exhausted and has perhaps gotten to the point where retirement looks appealing - I don't agree with her zero covid strategy or her absurd plan (no actual plan) but the amount of pressure must be taking a huge toll.

I remember feeling sorry on a personal level for Theresa May when she started looking rough around Brexit negotiations time.

"internet. But there is less reporting in Scotland and a lot of people seem to not know or care. I'"

Simply not true. I live in Scotland; where this issue has been headline news for months, both on TV and other media, and is of huge concern.

Scottish Parliament elections are in May. IF Salmonds claim is proved true , we're in one unholy mess .

.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 24/02/2021 16:25

I can’t believe NS is making these statements about AS during her daily televised briefing.
Totally inappropriate.

Scottish Govt, Civil Service and Judiciary are all being brought into disrepute.

This cuts to the heart of Scottish democracy or at least what’s left of it.

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 16:35

I’m actually feeling quite sad about how deep this runs

whenwillthemadnessend · 24/02/2021 16:41

Oh I'd love it. Hate the woman

I think until recently the reporting on it has been poor - to me it's been portrayed as just "forget about a quick chat", I hasn't really known about the full severity. That might just be me though
okstretch · 24/02/2021 16:51

Until very recently I thought the press were letting them off lightly. It wasn't headline news as far as I was aware.

Blurberoo · 24/02/2021 16:59

Didn’t she recently give the media in Scotland £3 million? Might have something to do with the favourable reporting

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 17:23

Liam Fox has asked a question about the SG in parliament and the Deputy speaker was certainly taking the question of the separation of powers between the government and the judiciary very seriously.

Leaving aside the irony of a Tory in this parliament talking about bringing politics into disrepute, it does seem that this is now becoming a big thing

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 24/02/2021 17:30

It was covered on Newsnight last night with Emily Maitliss.
Also on Politics Live on BBC2 at lunchtime today with Jo Coburn presenting.

It’s definitely being taken seriously now and being discussed by heavy weight political journalists outwith Scotland. but whether it’s really cutting through to the general public in Scotland is another matter.

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 17:33

I don’t think it is @ShowmetheSnowdrops

My DP knows of it really because I’ve told him and he’s a Nat

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 17:43

It's definitely spreading. It's not at critical mass yet but if Sturgeon doesn't get a lid on it very soon then it will be very widely known. Lockdown will be slowing it down

littlbrowndog · 24/02/2021 17:50

And the rangers malicious prosecution 23 million pounds of our money

The crown admitted it was a malicious prosecution

Police Scotland settled claims on the same case on as well unknown how much

It's the lead story on R4 news at 6

Aurea · 24/02/2021 18:05

I saw this on a friend's Facebook feed. It's the Tory take on the Sturgeon/Salmond fiasco. It's quite a clear and concise summary of what the accusations are.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 18:10

It's got an added dimension now the judiciary's independence is in question (alongside a civil service long politicised) and then the whole tie in to me too and victim protection being misused to protect Nicola.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/02/2021 18:13

That black and white and sombre piano music are a bit much though!

Ohclappyyayy · 24/02/2021 18:20

She should never have said what she did today but she is Nicola Sturgeon - who does she answer to? And it doesn’t matter to her fans what she does, because, Indy.

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 18:29

That’s a big change.

I despise corrupt politicians of whatever hue. And to have involved the legal system in all this is just awful. A cardinal principle is their independence from government

boobashka · 24/02/2021 19:54

It finally seems to be making its way into the mainstream media - about time too! Now that "everyone" knows about it, hopefully it will make some impact on the untouchable NS. I will never forgive her for her bitter, nasty and divisive attitude towards England.
