sexnotgender that sounds miserable.

Just scrolled back to read AgentCooper's post about vaccinating down the age range at the SECC.
I wonder do they not invite the older ages to the hubs? My relative in England over 80 had the choice, chose gp but had to wait an extra week to fortnight.

BlueThursday · 02/02/2021 11:58

Just adding to the anecdotes.

My father, late 60s with a good few health issues, is getting done at the Louisa tomorrow. He lives in north Glasgow

The FIL, over 70 and similar health is next week at his surgery (ruralish EDC)

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2021 12:00

@Dinnafashyersel ironically, DS is learning about human rights and the rights of the child in his online learning.

LetItGoGo · 02/02/2021 12:04

It's always good to hear people are getting their jab. My own sense of relief when my elderly relatives were all done surprised me!

RaspberryCoulis · 02/02/2021 12:08

@NotAnActualSheep

I emailed my MSP. He replied basically saying he was sorry it was inconvenient looking after my own child. I haven’t replied.

WTAF?! That is awful! I'll reply for you if you like... God, does he not have any empathy? "Inconvenient" indeed...

Last year in about June when they were planning for "blended learning" for the whole of this year, I emailed my SNP MSP in protest. His (copy and pasted) reply was pretty much "if it were up to me there would be no school at all until everyone is vaccinated".

Hmm Total numpty.

Dinnafashyersel · 02/02/2021 12:11

wouldbegood there is a very healthy backlash brewing in the student community and I wouldn't be surprised if teens follow suit - opinions on everything are very volatile at this age. Only saving grace for politicians atm is that they have all nailed their colours to the same mast.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/02/2021 12:11

I'm sure Swinney said early years and P1-P3 when he done the briefing but I can't find it. Ok mine will go back she's P2 but we need a clear timeline when the rest will go back. None of this 2 weeks and review. I really feel like this has to be the last school Closures.

I wish there was someone reputable to go up against EIS. UFT are just not credible. Tomorrow I am in lectures online from 10-3 whilst my six year old has live lessons etc she can't work independently but honestly neither can I. I rely on the teams meetings for feedback etc so why are high school students just expected to get on? They are still children for god sake

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 12:16

Good to hear a backlash is growing. Did someone say British people only protest in good weather??

Re schools, I thought JS said nurseries and youngest primary and exam years.
I don't think he ever clarified which primary years. And I guess it makes it very difficult for teachers of composite classes, half in half out.

blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 12:18

"my wee one just had his 8 week vaccinations. He was fascinated by all the different people grin at least until they jabbed him"

Aww bless him shouldistop, it's horrible taking them for their jabs when so tiny but needs must. Would have been really fascinating getting into a building that wasn't home! I am genuinely over the moon to get out later. Will break up the day 🙂

Am sure my 3yo won't be so delighted afterwards. But I am armed with chocolate buttons🙌😂

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 02/02/2021 12:18

what's happening with colleges and universities? Its always talk about schools but never colleges and universities (and hardly ever nurseries).

NotAnActualSheep · 02/02/2021 12:20

Many seem to think they are only representatives of those who have the same political affiliation as themselves... It is shocking. I did the same re blended learning, and wrote to all my MSPs, constituency and list (and councillors, and MP Blush... I got a bit desperate and scattergun), and got helpful and sympathetic responses back from most (or from their party spokesperson for that issue). Greens got round to replying a month or so later, and waffled something generic, and the councillors and MP quite rightly said it wasn't their responsibility but had passed it onto the relevant folks. But I don't have any SNP MSPs so that may have influenced things.

Peppafrig · 02/02/2021 12:22

Will be interesting to see if they are going back to normal classes or splitting in half etc will only be 2 hours to wait now till we know for sure .

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/02/2021 12:23

@Iwillneverbesatisfied my uni is fully online. I am doing a tech course and have never stepped foot in the building. We have nursing and dentistry on campus so they may be in but my whole course has been done on teams so far. It's hard but the lecturers are good and trying hard to be available. Such a struggle though. They think we won't be back to campus till September and even then maybe a combination of blended.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/02/2021 12:24

My two both back doing Uni on-line. DS1 has a couple of hours contact a week and otherwise gets stuff to watch or slides to go over and work to submit. DS2 just back this week and I think is similar.

They've had no time in Uni at all since last March.

I am going out to work in an actual workplace this afternoon 😱 Nice dress and heels on despite the snow

damnthatcolour · 02/02/2021 12:28

I’ve seen some people saying P1 and P2 and others P3.... selfishly hoping for the latter.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/02/2021 12:32

@Dinnafashyersel

Starting to feel like I'm supposed to be grateful for the schools being open to educate my children and allow them to socialise. Pretty sure both of these are the very basics of the "Rights of the Child" they were always telling me were their absolute priority.

We are a very long way from GIRFEC atm.

Suspect there will be a lot of incandescent parents if schools are closed to hold elections. My DM's council already located away from schools to cope with outrage over all the extra GEs etc in recent years.

First experience of Twinkl via the school e-class today. The teacher is very clear but the content is dense so lots of pausing the video to allow you to keep up but then DD loses the thread. OK if you are sitting with them but less than ideal if they are on their own - can almost see the average 9 year old glazing over and loading up Fortnite on the side.

We've long since lost GIRFEC and a fair chunk of the UNCRC too.
blowinahoolie · 02/02/2021 12:33

Too fixated on nurseries/schools announcement to worry over vaccine rollout, etc. Getting education up and running needs to happen. We need solid dates now, it's much easier to plan ahead with dates. Impatient for 2.20pm now!

Hopefully this is last of the closures for our young generation. No more SNP, this is it now. Let's get them all back 🤞

Lockdownbear · 02/02/2021 12:36

I guess college and uni will be after school hence the focus is on nursery and school.

@LetItGoGo you might be right there. There was an uproar round here recently when they asked all the over 80s to come and get jagged at the doctor’s and as a result there were fucking huge queues of vulnerable elderly people standing outside for ages because they hadn’t been given timeslots, just told to come on that day 🤦🏻‍♀️

I told my DM I don’t think she’ll be getting hers on Saturday, it’s either This Is Your Life or a kidnapping plot 😂

AgentCooper · 02/02/2021 13:17

I work for a Uni and we’re confirmed as online only for the remainder of the academic year (until June). Feel awful for our students.

Any idea how that works for something like nursing? My daughter has applied to study nursing starting in September 🙁
Iwillneverbesatisfied · 02/02/2021 13:26

The reason I'm asking about Uni is that I'm about to start working in a uni (professional services) but the school/department is practical so can't really be taught at home. I've only been told I'll be WFH "for now" but not sure how long that will be. As I'm not a teaching role, I'm not sure if I'll still be WFH when lecturers go back. No one seems to really know!

I'd imagine that the theory stuff will be on-line and placements in hospitals and other care settings will work as normal. DH sees trainee nurses amongst the staff when he is in the hospitals - they tend to stand out as they are the ones doing all the covid stuff correctly.
