I think the over 80s are being contacted by GPs rather than the vast mail out of the over 70s. The couple I've heard about didn't get much notice.

I imagine that is to do with over 80s being more likely to have complex medical needs, need home visits etc. But I agree that it will cause more anxiety for them to know younger people have a date even if it's a couple of weeks away.

My mum got her date yesterday at the same venue as they used for the flu jabs.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 07:48

The cynic in me thinks that they can lay the blame for lack of over 80s being done at GPs, but their centralised over 70s thing worked better?

RaspberryCoulis · 27/01/2021 07:52

My parents in their 70s are being done at the GP, their older neighbours were done at a community centre.

Who knows what's happening with the "plan"? Certainly not Jean Freeman and the Scot Gov.

Lockdownbear · 27/01/2021 07:56

Waxon your probably right. I guess it is just something else being dumped at the GPs door who still have a day job to do. And remember the GPs were complaining they were ready but didn't have supplies.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 08:05

Has anything been said about the ramping up that isn't happening? It very much looked like they were on track to get their 500k done by end of Jan this time last week, but things seem to have slowed?

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 08:07

This is the stats to the 25th for vaccinations at the bottom. No idea how many they're doing per day though.

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 08:10

@Lockdownbear you're right. My GP hadn't received vaccines yet. We have an old population here too. I had baby ds at the doctors the other week and the doctor was very excited about receiving supplies and couldn't wait to get started but can't do anything until they have the supplies

fluffyugg · 27/01/2021 08:11

Looks like they'd be on track for 500 000 by end of the week then?

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 08:17

@fluffyugg probably. Do you know how many they're doing a day?

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 08:17

It was averaging around 23k a day, had another dip at the weekend and back to 23ish again. I just understood that they were going to be ramping up and we'd see a jump in numbers but that doesn't seem to have happened.

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 08:17

@WaxOnFeckOff fingers crossed we'll see a jump in numbers by next week

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 08:20

Lockdownbear · 27/01/2021 08:21

We should see a jump in numbers soon. I don't know when they are opening the big vaccine centres but the dates the 5 over 70s I know have been given are all between 6th and 14th Feb,

fluffyugg · 27/01/2021 08:25

20 000 ish a day I think. I know that TECA in Aberdeen vaccination centre opens on Monday

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 27/01/2021 08:34

Ive tried to contact my GP twice now re: my (non covid) hospital appointments and I'm still waiting on him getting back to me. I'm guessing the vaccine is making them too busy to get back to me as I normally get an email or call back quickly.

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 09:00

Good news on the over 70s.

Surely once they’ve been done we can start lifting restrictions?

Lockdownbear · 27/01/2021 09:09

I don't think it will be over night. Partly because of the 3 week lag for it to take affect, and partly they still need pressure on NHS to drop.

But I'm fingers crossed that they'll open schools for the first groups mid - end of February.
I doubt all years will be in before Easter but then the pressure will be on.
I guess England will be opened up by then, a little more organised with the vaccine, they pay more attention to the economies need, it will need the boost of trade at Easter, and Scotland has an election looming.
So I doubt she can keep Scotland locked up beyond England there again she might be on her 'keep everyone safe' mantra regardless of the other costs (financial, emotional etc)

WaxOnFeckOff, what app is that, if you don't mind my asking?
titsbumfannythelot · 27/01/2021 10:04

@pawsbaws it's the travelling tabby website or Twitter page, loads of great statistics

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 10:06

@WouldBeGood I'm really hopeful that 2-3 weeks after the most vulnerable have been done we can really start to ease up. Maybe not big concerts etc but schools/nursery back to normal, maybe households meeting up in limited numbers and hospitality opening in a limited way, toddler groups and softplay would personally be wonderful for me.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 10:08

yes, travelling tabby. Lots of info both under the Scottish version and the UK version. Scottish version updated usually about 3pm daily and UK one after 5pm - just click on the relevant flag at the top:

Lockdownbear · 27/01/2021 10:21

Shouldistop
I can't see other things opening before schools. Which are looking at phased opening, given we don't even have a date for the first phase things are still a while off.
God knows when softplay will open given they never got to open before. Might take a change of government for that to happen.

Dinnafashyersel · 27/01/2021 10:34

One thing about the current schools focus is that I don't think it is possible to justify opening anything else before them. That in itself will exert a pressure which wasn't there at the end of June last year.

shouldistop · 27/01/2021 10:35

@Lockdownbear true. I saw 22nd July on scotgov website for hairdressers!

BusyDreaming · 27/01/2021 10:36

My DM ( 70s) is delighted because she’s received her letter but she’s to go to a sports centre several miles away.
Different venue from the ( very late) flu jab which was several miles in the other direction.

Oh well, I suppose at least the taxi drivers will make some money from ferrying folk around.

I feel relieved that she’s got a date. A step in the right direction.
