Loving the new title!
Wonder if we will all receive postal votes as a automatic?
My area is rubbish it's Tory followed by SNP....... I think people are narcissistic here!

RaspberryCoulis · 25/01/2021 18:09

Gutted to read that Jenners is closing. It's been decades since I lived in Edinburgh but Jenners is an icon, a landmark.

It's like Knightsbridge without Harrods.

That central atrium with the Christmas tree that used to fill the space, and the fab little haberdashery on the lower ground floor....

Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good thing sharing resources; especially medical resources in times like this.
I’m musing as to what would have happened IF we separate!

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 25/01/2021 18:12

He'd probably reject it. I did say let me know if you need anything but no response Sad I'm also not allowed to drive (health reasons) so couldn't really see him anyway til my doctor allows me to drive!

He is in a highly paid job and well respected (politics related but not a politician) so not the type you would class as vulnerable and I think that influences his asking for help too. I think he's also overworked (his own fault too, he can't say no to folk)

I know he's been involved in recovery groups and I trust he is getting help from them too but suspect it is online when he needs interaction.

"I'm surprised SG didn't make more of it at the time if they sent ambulances south."

Most likely because it draws attention to this regular back and forth across the border and is a prime example of the advantages of an integrated UK. The SNP like to pretend that the rest of the UK is a completely separate entity already and that independence wouldn't be that big a step.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 25/01/2021 19:05

I think I remember a news article about it at the time but that's all.

littlbrowndog · 25/01/2021 19:07

Report on children and babies on channel 4.

In lockdown how much it is affecting their mental health

From the children’s commissioner

Heart breaking how damaging it is to children teens and even babies

runningpink · 25/01/2021 19:15

@anon444877 blue Monday was last week. But to be fair I’m sure we could class every day of the week blue at the moment!

Love the thread title! Thanks for new thread!

@groovie how are things?

@shouldistop how are you doing? Hope things have been a little easier for you today?

who was waiting for the dream job but was unsuccessful. Have you heard from the other job you applied for yet? Sorry iv forgotten your name! And you have perhaps updated already and iv just missed it.

shouldistop · 25/01/2021 19:23

@runningpink we had a good day today, the sun was out, baby was less clingy and ds1 was really well behaved and just a wee delight all day Smile We didn't do much, just ran some errands (yes with 2 kids in tow - sorry Nicola Wink), had a walk and did a bit of painting.

Hope you've all had a good day. I just put ds1 to bed about to do the baby's bedtime and I'll be following shortly behind.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 25/01/2021 19:36

it was me re: dream job.

I got 4 job offers, including dream job, although they say they need to get more funding before they can take me on so its not a definite 'yes' Confused and they might not get the funding (if they do, it will be June or July I think).

one job offer was much lower than advert like REALLY low) so I said no, other job offer was much higher than job offer but I thought would be too stressful, so I picked option 3 lol which is temporary but in an area that I wanted to move into and will hopefully lead to F/T role.

Thanks for asking!

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 25/01/2021 19:37

*higher than the job advert, that should say

rookiemere · 25/01/2021 19:43

@RaspberryCoulis Jenners never the same since Frasers took it over, it turned from a cornucopia of exciting crannies to a jumble store. One step up from Debenhams as at least they stock some decent brands if you can fight your way through, but third rate feel all the same.

I doubt there will be any stores left on the high street by the time this is over. I've started buying all my clothes from M&S at the Gyle as at least I can see them - or at least could before they took the insane decision to leave menswear accessible but close off womens wear.

anon444877 · 25/01/2021 19:43

Ah last Monday! I spilled hot coffee over my leg, printer, floor and walls today and my dd fell off a swing (wasn't holding on properly). Hoping Tuesday looks up!

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/01/2021 19:53

I'm sad about Jenners. We were really poor growing up but I remember going to see the tree when I was small with my mum at Christmas and we'd have a wander round the toy floor and she also used to buy little stocking fillers from there (little wooden things). I've not been in it at all since it was taken over but it will be missed.

Thanks for the new thread :)

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 25/01/2021 19:57

Thanks for the new thread.

Just checking in, have literally nothing to add to the discussion.

Why on earth did they do that?

Pootle40 · 25/01/2021 20:03

@Cismyfatarse

It just should not be spun by NS as a we are doing well aren't we? And being better at presenting than Boris is not really anything to do with actual policy - it is just presentation.

Vaccine rollout is not good at all.

A wee story from the Highlands.

They sent 2 Drs and a nurse to do 4 jags on one island. Why not send over enough to do the lot of them? Only about 60 people on the island over 18. Why not stick a few more vials on and get it done?

Are they really going to do a 5 hour round trip on the ferry for each different group? What a total waste of Dr / nurse resources, if so.

Madness!

Are you expecting some common sense here? GrinGrinGrin

Much better to be inefficient and pay for everyone's time and travel multiple times Hmm

Pootle40 · 25/01/2021 20:04

@ssd

Ice taken ignoring the news and watching Escape to the country/Rick Stein in Cornwall/bob Ross/Antique roadshow on a loop......

I'll probably need sectioned after this....

I recommend 'Winterwatch' too. Relaxing and uplifting.
Lockdownbear · 25/01/2021 20:05

There has to be a gap in the UK high streets for another department store, of some description. Someone, possibly a European outfit, will want that Jenners store.

littlbrowndog I'm came across a link to an Oxford study after the first lockdown the worse affected age group was 7 year olds. Combination of online learning and need to be with peers.

Pootle40 · 25/01/2021 20:06

I wonder what will become of the Jenners building? So sad. Presume they have someone offering big bucks for a hotel development Sad

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/01/2021 20:11

Sadly I think with the biggest hits being on retail and hospitality, I can't see either being able to afford it as a whole entity. I suspect it will either be split up into smaller parts, (possibly some residential?) or left to wrack and ruin for a bit, can you imagine the rates on that?

Lockdownbear · 25/01/2021 20:11

Its just been said on the radio it the owners are in talks with another, and it will remain a department store.

runningpink · 25/01/2021 20:13

I’m so glad you have had a better day @shouldistop
You rebel running those errands.😉

I’m really tired today (no reason to be) and could do with heading to bed but I’m hooked on Married at First Sight so will be keeping myself up until it finishes at 9!

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I’m so glad you have managed to secure a job even if it wasn’t quite your dream one. Congratulations to you!

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 25/01/2021 20:19

I heard that part of Jenners will be a hotel. Did I hear the old Frasers on Princes St was going to be a 'deluxe whisky experience'? There won't be many locals left hanging about Princes St at this rate.

titsbumfannythelot · 25/01/2021 20:22

That's good, it would be a shame for that building to lie empty.

Has anyone else been reading that lolloping tit Johnson is apparently going to visit Scotland?
