@Peppafrig ooh! Hope so!

Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 13:22

Maybe us getting our two week notice ?

Scottishskifun · 26/01/2021 13:23

@Peppafrig

Do you think big announcement on school coming ?
Nope they have said 2nd of Feb update
Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 13:25

Was just thinking the timing would fit in with the two weeks and Glasgow schools going back on the 11th February.

Lockdownbear · 26/01/2021 13:26

Fingers crossed. Two weeks from today would be 9th Feb, middle of half term and just before Teachers in service day.

Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 13:30

Was thinking maybe they would cancel inservice day and send the kids back in on 10th.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/01/2021 13:35

Did we all get our £700k letter from Nicola to say thanks? Mine already in recycling so that was worth it. If only she had a less environmentally unfriendly way to say thanks, like a daily tv broadcast or to tack it on to the multiple other adverts we get every day. Oh wait... Hmm

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 13:40

That's funny Wax, when I saw it I thought of this thread and how lots of people were saying 'if only she'd say she appreciates what we've had to do' etc etc, and that's exactly what the leaflet said.

Just goes to show how it's an almost impossible task for a politician, to get any sort of message through and sound sincere I suppose.

Lockdownbear · 26/01/2021 13:44

Nope can't see in service day getting cancelled teachers still need time to prep.
Even getting kids back on Thursday would be good, two days to settle down before proper start on the Monday

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/01/2021 13:47

I don't think people had an issue with saying thanks, I think the issue was saying she "knows" what people are going through which is insincere as she doesn't? It's a choice of words and words are important. She could have said that she appreciated how hard people are finding it. I've actually no doubt that she is thankful but politicians in her position are living an ever so slightly more normal life than the rest of us and people resent being patronised.

At the beginning there was definitely more of a feeling that we were all in it together regardless of politics and I think a lot of the difference now is because people are weary. But I also think there has been much more of an authoritarian tone which only really affects those who are already doing what they are told and has no affect on those who don't.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 13:59

I can't remember the exact wording of it, but when I read it I thought, oh that's the kind of thing people on this thread were saying they wished she'd say.

I think if we're at the stage of picking apart each word to suit each individual who received the message, you have to start to think that there's literally no hope of someone who opposes your politics hearing your message.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/01/2021 14:04

I wouldn't pick apart every word, but words used are important and also the tone. I don't remember exactly what it said, I just thought what a waste of time and money and resources it was when it wasn't saying anything new and maybe should have come from someone on the medical side to save questions about politicising things.

I just think about what that money could have been better spent on - i don't expect everyone to agree with me though.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:04

But I agree that there is a 'punch down' thing going on with all of the UK governments, where they lambast the public but regularly fail to act quickly or decisively enough, or to put funding into the things that any blind person can see is critical.

It's a distraction.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:06

Yeah I sort of agree on the money thing, but then I live my whole bloody life online so I don't miss anything. There will be other people that don't and will find a bit of value in something physical coming through their door.

I'm actually designing a mail campaign this afternoon, so there is definitely still mileage in the old snail mail!

titsbumfannythelot · 26/01/2021 14:10

I know this won't be a popular view, and I hope I'm wrong, but I think schools will go back after Easter break.

Dinnafashyersel · 26/01/2021 14:11

I like a leaflet. Bonus points if it is full of useful info in decent size print to go on my noticeboard. So sick of duplicate texts, tweets, FB posts and emails with random dislocated info.

anon444877 · 26/01/2021 14:13

Desperately holding onto hope for after feb half term return for nursery and early primary here - it'll be what it'll be.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:16

Someone on LinkedIn earlier (who is a tutor) said that private schools are holding off until after Easter, so I guess that's a bit of a sign of current thinking.

Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 14:16

God he really is dull isn’t he

Yes, I agree that there will be lots of folk who don't live on-line, I forget that Smile. I think a large part of those will probably watch tv and either watch the daily broadcast or stations with adverts though.

If it was something of critical importance then I agree, a letter to every household has merit for inclusion purposes.

Honestly, anything that arrives that isn't specifically addressed to a member of our household tends to go straight into recycling like junk emails do. I hope I'm not your target market for your campaign!

Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 14:19

Oh well still remote learning for the time being .

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:29

Dunno, are you in the market for a charging point for your electric vehicle? Grin

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:31

I missed what he said, I thought it started at twenty past. No change to anything then I assume?

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/01/2021 14:36

that'll be a no i'm afraid...

Surely if you were, you'd just look that up and find someone?

I can't say it's the type of thing that someone would get through the door and think Hmm, I forgot I needed one of those... but i'm the first to say I know nothing about marketing.

Having said that, in my youth I used to deliver leaflets for double glazing and at one point someone bought it after receiving a leaflet I delivered and I got a bonus, that was way back in the early 80s though :) The bonus was reasonably significant. I could deliver leaflets all day and earn about a fiver and I think the bonus was about £30.

Peppafrig · 26/01/2021 14:37

I watched it on sky news he started talking at quarter past not twenty past . BBC Scotland missed the first five minutes. He just said no changes at all until next review in February. He also said Boris Johnson was making announcement on borders tonight and if they weren’t tough enough they would look at more measures for Scotland .
