runningpink Perhaps they should consider vaccinating at larger work places too e.g. my DD works at a manufacturing plant that has approx 2,500 employees. But that would mean not doing it by age order.

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/01/2021 23:41

Once they've done the groups most at risk, I don't care if they do it in age order, if it means we can be out and about earlier then I'd be happy to get mine later and have key industries and workplaces done. Manufacturing, teachers and school staff, shop workers, hospitality, transport staff e.g. bus drivers. The quicker we get the country up and running the better.

Wbeezer · 28/01/2021 23:43

I've been on too many ranty threads on Mumsnet today, I messed up a chat (online ) with my friends by going off on one about one of my current peeves and ruining the atmosphere. I seem to have lost the ability to do small talk and banter. So need a good proper chat IRL about something interesting or pleasant or mildly diverting.

Wbeezer · 28/01/2021 23:44

It was that advert that set me off!

littlbrowndog · 28/01/2021 23:56

Ffs beezer be all the ladies in that advert. I like the dude lounging on the couch.

No other men in any of the pictures

@runningpink

Just thinking with regards to the vaccinations could we end up slowing up more as we go down the list and not faster.

Majority getting done at moment are care homes so a group in one place. NHS staff who I assume get at work. Elderly and Vulnerable who are mostly at home so can in theory go for an appointment anytime pending lifts etc

But when it reaches age groups where a lot will be out at work all day then the uptake will potentially be slower?

I could only mange on two days of the week and after 5.30pm unless I could sort a time with my boss but that’s not always easy to cover me. The other three days I don’t work locally so no chance of an appointment.

How many others would be in same position where it’s not that easy to just go to doctors during the day? So people and later appointments available would be outnumbered.

To me they really would need to be offering appointments from say 6/7am through to 7/8pm. (Assuming this isn’t the case already)

And a question out of curiosity do you get given an appoint or just told it’s your turn to schedule one with the new blue envelope thing that’s in place?

Sorry that’s long and waffling but hope you get what I mean?

There's some comment about doing them 24/7. I can't see the logic, people/ staff can only work so long. 24/7 probably means 4 lots of staff working shifts. Why not stick to 4 lots of staff and double the venues, there can't exactly be a shortage of empty halls, hotels, that could be used?

While 3am might suit the odd shift worker to get it done in their tea break. For many people they'd prefer before or after shift rather than the middle.
And for folks who work more regular hours, how many folk will sleep through alarms, fall asleep on the couch and miss middle of the night appointment? That's before you consider the logics for people who don't drive or single parents.

shouldistop · 29/01/2021 04:02

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I hope your friend is ok

@WouldBeGood I really think there will be major kick back from the public (and businesses) if things don't start to open up swiftly after the most vulnerable are vaccinated. We've been told all along we're doing this to protect the nhs and a vaccine is the way out.

MrsRockAndRoll · 29/01/2021 08:38

Please let the the news of the potential 4th vaccine mean there is a way out. Even the strongest people I know are struggling with their mental well-being. This is so hard of us all.

Peppafrig · 29/01/2021 08:43

Isn’t it the problem that you can’t open schools in one area and not the next as many thousands of teachers work in and live in different council areas.

titsbumfannythelot · 29/01/2021 08:55

That and attainment would be unfairly impacted peppa

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/01/2021 08:56

In theory that shouldn't matter as teachers are keyworkers so their children would be allowed a school place anyway if they had another keyworker parent. The reality of course is that even if the other parent is wfh and not a keyworker it might well be the teacher who has been juggling the kids and lots simply won't be available to work of their kids aren't given an in school place.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 29/01/2021 09:16

I had a good sleep and feel better. Only just woke up, wow, I rarely sleep that long. DD is already up and doing her work. Good girl I have there. As for friend, I think I'll leave him be for a bit as DH says I shouldn't be too intrusive and give him space. I do know friend has other friends he is closer to so I don't think he's alone although I don't know if he lives alone. And his work will definitely look out for him as he's well respected there. I'll maybe give it a few weeks and check in on him again.

Dinnafashyersel · 29/01/2021 10:55

Stats if the argument for keeping schools closed is community transmission then I think it does matter that the reality is that most communities are interconnected and so cannot be segregated.

The argument runs it is a different situation currently where teachers are travelling between communities for key worker support but most are at home. BUT you could equally argue that actually having most children off while higher risk key worker children are in and teachers are travelling makes little difference and they might as well all be in.

shouldistop · 29/01/2021 11:09

My GP practice have supplies of their vaccinations and will be working all weekend to get people vaccinated. They're really doing an excellent job in stressful circumstances.

I have just signed myself and DS (18) up for an extras agency which a friend put me onto. Probably won't come to anything but have had a fun morning imagining myself sipping tea in a cafe scene or wandering around like an 18th century peasant in the background of Outlander.

And if it DOES come to something, it'll be the most exciting thing to have happened in lockdown.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 29/01/2021 12:06

are you allowed to be an extra in lockdown?

I'd love to be in Outlander. Nothing to do with Jamie Fraser, its the acting experience I'd like, honest to god, I've always wanted to be an actor, honest to god....Grin

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 29/01/2021 12:06

Thanks for that link @Dinnafashyersel it's interesting. I'm surprised unemployment is that low! 4.2% - I guess more is coming though.

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 12:07

Oh I want to go out and be an extra! Well maybe if it stops raining..

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 29/01/2021 12:17

515k first doses now, that's brilliant.

Work, innit? I'm self-employed, I take what I can. There's a lot of stuff about covid security, the girl who put me onto the agency is on the technical side, she's in a "covid cohort" or something like that, like the footballers. She gets the proper swab down the throat tests monday, wednesday and friday. That's why I applied with DS, we wouldn't have to distance from each other.

I volunteer in a charity shop (although not at the moment, obviously) and someone donated a life sized cardboard cut out of Sam Heughan to the shop, we had him in the back shop for a while. Lovely to look at but gave you a right scare if you were first in and he loomed at you out of the darkness.

runningpink · 29/01/2021 12:29

Looks like Western Isles will be in level 4 by end of the day

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 12:31

Oh dear that's not good.

Oh yes I'd like to act in outlander, purely for dramatic reasons clearly.
