I’ve kissed worse than spiders, but the rats in my old house freaked me

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/01/2021 20:20

yes, care home workers are different from the carers that are in people's private homes, seeing multiple people everyday in close contact in their houses though. And the nature of their job means that it's usually people that are unable to be out their own homes unless it's really necessary and they will be using ambulances then.

Just think it's bizarre not to prioritise this group for testing although they are/should be prioritised for vaccination.

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 20:21

Vaccinate them and free us

Groovee · 28/01/2021 20:23

@StatisticallyChallenged

That's nothing *@Groovee*, one of our staff went out to the bin one day and found a massive rat sitting on top 🐀. The scream could have been heard from Glasgow!

A Fox flew through the nursery garden after the decking we were dancing on must have been too loud.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/01/2021 20:30

We have a local cat (not ours) that will wander in to the garden when it's full of kids. Utterly fearless.

Not had any foxes yet, but the ones at mil's are scared of nothing. Fuckers even killed one of my cats.

Scottishskifun · 28/01/2021 20:30

@WouldBeGood I want to be free as well but if community transmission is too high then we end up in this endless horrific cycle of repeating lock downs and shutting schools as the hospitals currently also have a higher number of under 65s in it.
Combo of testing, track and trace and vaccines gets us all free and hopefully avoiding future lock downs next autumn/winter!
Just wish they would speed up vaccination programmes!

shouldistop · 28/01/2021 20:35

I'm praying that the vaccination proves to reduce transmission

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 20:47

@Scottishskifun where are the stats on the ages of those hospitalised?

Scottishskifun · 28/01/2021 21:04
@Scottishskifun where are the stats on the ages of those hospitalised?
Travelling tabby breaks down hospitalisation by age by week.

Also from friends who work in the hospital (3 in ICU in varying roles) I believe them when they tell me the people they are seeing are younger then previous.

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 21:09

Thanks @Scottishskifun

Still mostly older people though. So the hospitals should cope when they’re vaccinated. Along with the ECV.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 28/01/2021 21:26

Friend who I mentioned earlier was struggling with his mental health has been in hospital. I don't know what for. He does have other friends who are closer to him. I know him through work and I don't know if it would be appropriate to message him and say "hey I heard you were in hospital, are you okay, do you need anything etc". It just feels like prying in a way Sad he was a great support to me when I needed support but we've never properly socialised or been to each others houses. I know him through work hence not sure appropriate to check in on him. God, I hope he's not got Covid but surely he'd not post on social media he was in hospital, you'd either say nothing or be more honest wouldn't you? I'm worried now. Do I say something or not. I feel like a bloody stalker sometimes as I am always the one who does the texting. He's a typical man. Doesn't talk unless you talk first.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 28/01/2021 21:29

och, I caved and sent a text. Worried about him. He really is one of the nicest men I know. I owe him a lot and he doesn't realise that. He'd better not have fucking Covid Sad

littlbrowndog · 28/01/2021 21:31

Good work iwillneverbe

You can never tell

Not prying just bein* a caring friend

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 28/01/2021 21:32

quick reply - not covid, more serious apparently. fuck. Worried sick. WTF is more serious than Covid? Cancer? Heart Attack? Stroke? FFS. Have asked him to keep in touch but will try not to bombard him so he can rest. Shit Shit. Sad

Coquohvan · 28/01/2021 21:35

Be nice for him to know your thinking of him with your text Iwill

T&T that’s needs to be handled better also, all those people moving about us.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 28/01/2021 21:35

He says he's out of hospital and on the mend but won't tell me what was wrong. Fucking men, just bloody tell me so I can know what to do to help (not that he'd accept it). I know this sounds mad but I can't lose him. He means a lot. Like a mentor to me or something.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 28/01/2021 21:37

sorry for all the posts. Maybe he had a relapse as he used to be involved in drugs and alcohol and did say last week that lockdown had been 'hard'. Shit. I wish he wasn't so fucking cagey. Maybe he thinks I'll judge him (I wouldn't). I'm going to need to go to bed and calm down a bit.

derxa · 28/01/2021 21:39

Placemarking

runningpink · 28/01/2021 21:40

Just thinking with regards to the vaccinations could we end up slowing up more as we go down the list and not faster.

Majority getting done at moment are care homes so a group in one place. NHS staff who I assume get at work. Elderly and Vulnerable who are mostly at home so can in theory go for an appointment anytime pending lifts etc

But when it reaches age groups where a lot will be out at work all day then the uptake will potentially be slower?

I could only mange on two days of the week and after 5.30pm unless I could sort a time with my boss but that’s not always easy to cover me. The other three days I don’t work locally so no chance of an appointment.

How many others would be in same position where it’s not that easy to just go to doctors during the day? So people and later appointments available would be outnumbered.

To me they really would need to be offering appointments from say 6/7am through to 7/8pm. (Assuming this isn’t the case already)

And a question out of curiosity do you get given an appoint or just told it’s your turn to schedule one with the new blue envelope thing that’s in place?

Sorry that’s long and waffling but hope you get what I mean?

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 21:51

I’ll go any time at all to be jagged

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 21:54

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I think you did the right thing to message him. I’d drop him a text tomorrow just to say hi, maybe tell him something you’ve done.. just keep the lines of communication open. And be nice to yourself, don’t worry about doing the wrong thing, and try to relax and get some sleep

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/01/2021 22:24

It would also be good to be doing some community antibody testing in a few locations across a broad section of community to have an idea how much natural immunity is already out there.

titsbumfannythelot · 28/01/2021 22:24

I think you did too. If I was in recovery like him I'd probably see a relapse as more serious than Covid. I'd check in tomorrow too, always better to regret something you've done than not done. He's lucky to have you looking out for him.

titsbumfannythelot · 28/01/2021 22:25

The novavax vaccine has just announced 89% efficacy. Good news.

littlbrowndog · 28/01/2021 23:26
