Dinnafesh that's worrying about people turning up at hospital really ill too.

Dinnafashyersel · 21/01/2021 14:05

I need one of those raspberry. One benefit of HE is that I am more disciplined at having my laptop on the table beside DD3 instead of perched precariously on my knee, Much better for my back and knees.

I know lockdownbear but inevitability of constant messaging about overstretched NHS. Non-urgent tending to become urgent rather than disappear if delayed. Very fact of it being urgent makes it harder to schedule capacity too. (bit like medics preferring CS and inductions).

WouldBeGood · 21/01/2021 14:25

@Dinnafashyersel that’s very interesting and makes total sense.

We’ve also had people without exercise for a year, combined with the axing of normal NHS services

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/01/2021 14:31

even stuff like the number of teeth likely to be lost as preventative checks haven't been done and nothing stopped early resulting in much more time consuming or invasive treatment or extractions. All the general niggles that people are putting off like skin infections etc - The big stuff is obviously the priority but the little stuff is becoming an issue and not sure how it'll ever get back on an even keel. A lot of folk are now approaching 2 years since a dental check

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2021 14:37

Or have holes in their teeth like. Me. Just a small one but it won’t get treated till another 9 months.

By that time it will be no tooth left 🤦‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 21/01/2021 15:05

Yep, DP had an extraction after a fortnight of excruciating pain as a crack in a tooth had let in infection.. would have been spotted at regular check up.

My optician had also just been posting contact lenses to me, whereas they usually guard them ferociously unless I attend six monthly checks.

Not to mention all the cancer screening that’s been cancelled.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/01/2021 15:49

Oh don't get me started on dentists. MIL (who lives in England) developed a problem with a wisdom tooth over Christmas, further investigation (carried out by FIL with a magnifying glass and the camera on her phone) found it was cracked in half, right through. She was in agony, up through the night taking pain killers, couldn't settle, eating was painful, drinking was painful. NHS 111 not interested - not covid. Just keep taking the painkillers.

Thankfully FIL is the assertive type and the second their own dentist reopened, was on the phone demanding they saw her and not taking no for an answer. After about 10 days she got it whipped out and is now slowing withdrawing from the codeine....

None of us saw a dentist at all in 2020. Two kids are about 9 months overdue for an orthodontics review.

Rae36 · 21/01/2021 16:09

I've just had a woman at my door to say that a kid threw a snowball this morning and it nearly hit her dog. She knows I have kids so could I please tell my kids that throwing snowballs near dogs could cause them to have a heart attack and they mustn't do it.

I then saw her go and knock on my neighbour's door and I guess tell her the same thing. I'll compare stories later.

Anyway...

@Iwillneverbesatisfied I work for a charity. We recently interviewed for a job (more recently than yesterday so it wasn't us) and out of the 18 applicants we had 2 really good ones. The best one got the job. We told the other one that if another job came up we would be in touch.
We were in fact waiting for confirmation of another grant which would fund this other job, it came in about 3 days later and we called and offered him the job without going through the recruitment process again. So you never know.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 21/01/2021 16:25

Thanks @Rae36 I've actually been offered a temporary contract somewhere else that would end in November but if dream job get back to me they'd want me to start in May. Temporary job has a 3 month notice period, so not sure what to do to be honest.

And I have a final interview for another company on Monday which is the highest pay of the lot but I reckon most stressful

Anyway, I'm derailing the thread! Back to covid....

I ventured out of the house for a hospital appointment. Lots of workmen and staff sitting or standing around inside close together with no masks on. yet all the patients I could see did.

Groovee · 21/01/2021 16:30

Gosh I'm tired. I need to get organised for DD's birthday. We've also had the awful news that dh's cousin's husband died in a tragic accident this week. Honestly will life just give us a fecking break. I've had enough.

WouldBeGood · 21/01/2021 17:03

@Rae36 that’s nuts about the dog and snowballs 😂😂

rookiemere · 21/01/2021 17:13

@RaspberryCoulis one of my abiding memories of lockdown is neighbour telling me he had had to have a tooth extracted as that was all that was being offered, but his regular dentist had said that if he had been allowed to do root canal, it probably could have been saved.

DH and ai watched Castaway over Christmas and there was a bit where Tom Hanks has to extract one of his own teeth, being as he was alone on the island. DH turned round after the scene and said "Just like lockdown ".

Wbeezer · 21/01/2021 17:15

I'm getting a crown redone next week (curse of the quality street toffees) , but DS2 and DS3 have to get their first proper fillings as what would have been wee surface cavities, filled without anaesthetic have grown into bigger holes. Our dentist is only offering private for some treatments, if you don't want to wait, and there's a £25 surcharge for PPE. At least I have the funds due to not spending on fun stuff anymore, although a trip to the dentist was almost fun by today's standards.

rookiemere · 21/01/2021 17:22

@Wbeezer I've been putting off getting a smear until I need a good day out - they're probably suspended at the minute though - and my eyes need tested, which I'm saving for February.

Rae36 · 21/01/2021 17:41

Oh man @Groovee your family have had the worst run of luck. I'm sorry

Lockdownbear · 21/01/2021 17:46

You know that thing about putting medical stuff off and it eventually becomes crisis Hmm
I kept putting off my very first smearBlush. Eventually I ended up in hospital. Scans weren't clear. Gynie Doc appeared beside my bed "Em we can't see one of your ovaries, and we can't find your last smear results, Em do you mind if I do a smear now?"Blush

Eventually it was concluded appendix was the root off all pain and infection.

titsbumfannythelot · 21/01/2021 17:57

Ffs @Groovee it's one thing after another just now. Hope you're doing ok

Lockdownbear · 21/01/2021 17:59

Groovee I'm sorry what a rotten run of luck.

Bytheloch · 21/01/2021 18:07

Ah @Groovee ffs, something else. I’m so sorry.

Groovee, life just isn't fair, is it? One thing after another. Flowers

Groovee · 21/01/2021 18:53

Thanks everyone. I'm really struggling now. I'm missing my friends and hugs x

They're not, I got my letter today! I don't think I can face getting my foof out for anyone yet. I barely leave the house never mind flashing my fanny to a stranger.

Dinnafashyersel · 21/01/2021 19:09

Groovee thinking of you. Flowers

rae I hope you gave her a full inquisition on her park and pavement etiquette and checked her scooping equipment was in order.

Highlight of my afternoon was 2 people having a socially distanced walk with each other and expecting me and DD3 to move off the pavement into the middle of the road to accommodate their 2m gap. I just looked at them blankly.

Bytheloch · 21/01/2021 19:52

Dinna we must have been walking in the same place, as exactly this happened to me too. I’m now at the stage of saying ‘you’re welcome’ as I’m forced into the road or even squeezed through the middle. I encourage DC and DH to walk in single file if we see anyone coming.
