Maybe we should make a Scotsnet party

@DollyMixtureLulus

Does anyone use the zoe covid app? It's suggesting that Glasgow has 15,303 cases, up by 7713 in a week. That seems incredibly steep... is it Old Firm/ NY coming to roost?
That's funny, it has Fife up by almost 2000 on this day last week, yet our actual positive cases have halved. I know Zoe is usually ahead of the curve, but I really hope we're not about to go backwards.
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 14/01/2021 23:57

Andrew Adonis is pushing Gordon Brown on Twitter! That's the state of the Labour Party in Scotland apparently; nobody current of enough discernible talent to do the job. How depressing.

I genuinely miss Tony Blair.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 15/01/2021 06:58

I don't really know who Monica Lennon is. I know the Sarwars and I know Jackie Baillie but newer MSPs I don't know.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 15/01/2021 07:02

Actually I tell a lie. I've just remembered Neil Findlay and Ian Gray.

Gray could be good but he did it before didn't he? And something tells me he wasn't going to stand again or am I confusing him with someone else? He is a centrist candidate.

Findlay is also well known, I think he is more left wing and was/is a supporter of Corbyn.

I snapped this morning and had a full on "I hate this" meltdown. DH insists on sharing all the sodding covid news and he'd read an article about vaccination rates in Scotland. He completely misremembered the figures though and said there would only be 500k doses by May and I just lost it, said we'd be in lockdown forever and I couldn't fucking cope. After I'd gone upstairs and screamed at my pillow for a bit he came and sheepishly said that wasn't right.

Feeling a bit shamefaced now at my reaction but I am just so far beyond the end of my tether. My toddler is sleeping like crap and I could deal with that if during the day I could share a cup of tea with a friend whilst she played. I'm so wrung out.

Big hug @ProvisionallyAnxious Flowers I’d have reacted in much the same way. I can’t take any more bad news and fucking misery. And my toddler slept like shit last night too so consider this me joining you with a virtual cup of tea and sympathy.
ProvisionallyAnxious · 15/01/2021 08:06

Thanks @AgentCooper Brew I just need to feel there's some end in sight - or at the very least the hope of seeing my mum (who lives at the other end of the country) some time in the next 6 months.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 15/01/2021 08:06

DH did give me his creme egg to make up for it though. Grin

Me too. Iraq aside I like him. I still like him and Gordon Brown when I see them on tv.
WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 08:26

Oh, @ProvisionallyAnxious 💐

@Groovee hope your DH is doing ok.

I think Gordon Brown would be a big mistake after the bad feeling about the broken promises at the referendum time.

anon444877 · 15/01/2021 08:39

huge gordon brown fan - but I'm not sure he could get the young vote and it's probably that cohort they need to make headway with, tricky balancing act.

provisionallyanxious most of the people I know have stopped reading the news, I've found them to be specialising in peddling scare stories about this going on the rest of the year that there's no evidence for. New strain, low vaccinations, travel restrictions til 2050, you name it, it's a stupid headline. Ignore it. Sorry your toddler isn't sleeping, it's so hard to get them worn out enough in the winter with the choices available...I don't know if it's at all feasible, but things like teeter poppers, space hoppers, peanut balls (and even a mini roundabout thing) are on amazon etc if you've any space for an indoor gym corner.

I feel the same - the lack of seeing friends or family whilst the kids play is what's been worst this year and mine are much older.

anon444877 · 15/01/2021 08:40

oh and the all important mini trampoline, although they always worried me that mine would fall off them as they're prone to that.

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 08:43

It might actually be a good chance to get the young vote, what with some the student and school debacles. Anyhow, let’s hope they try to pull together as a party and get on with some opposition and questioning.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/01/2021 08:55

All I want is a party to vote for that is centre/left of centre that prioritises fair treatment and equality of opportunity whilst growing the economy. I don't care what they call themselves or what their history is and I'd like them to behave honestly and with integrity. Is that too much to ask?

anon444877 · 15/01/2021 09:19

Yes same here wax and pragmatism - if a private contract isn't delivering value, reform it, if there's public sector waste, reform that. No more ideology first and facts tailored to fit. That's what was good about Blair and Brown. I do like Keir he is doing a good job holding the tories to account imho.

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 11:11

So, I’d let my ancient dad know that he might be notified of vaccination by telephone. He rang the surgery to find out he’d missed his and now needs to wait for the next batch. He’s deaf and very infirm so doesn’t hear/answer the phone

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/01/2021 11:21

That's really not good enough @wouldbegood. Surely they understand that the client group they are dealing with are going to need a bit more work to ensure they get their appointments? Letting it ring longer, calling multiple times at different times of the day, issuing a letter, dropping round to check they are okay. I appreciate this all takes more time, but it's pretty important and is different from being told by the person they don't want it.

TeenTraumaTrials · 15/01/2021 11:42

Iain Gray is stepping down so it won't be him.

Daniel Johnston is one of the up and coming's but not sure he'd have the party support.

John Swinney on BBC this morning saying schools opening on 1st Feb is a tall order ..........

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 15/01/2021 11:45

FGS just tell people it'll be March! Let's not pretend.

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 11:45

I am disappointed @WaxOnFeckOff

It was on here I saw that phone calls were what was happening and it’s only because of that that I gave him a heads up and he rang them. He’s 87, lives alone and is extremely frail. He is also a bloody nightmare, but is keen for the vaccine

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 11:46

I saw that @TeenTraumaTrials and also that he said remote learning is “working well” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rae36 · 15/01/2021 11:50

John Swinney on BBC this morning saying schools opening on 1st Feb is a tall order

That man is a fucking genius. Put him in charge of everything. He'll fix it.

TeenTraumaTrials · 15/01/2021 11:53

WouldBeGood - how can he possibly say that when he's said inspectors will be going out to determine how it's going.

It's certainly better than March but my experience is that my (secondary) kids are getting the equivalent of about 2-3 hours work a day (max) but have been asked to 'follow their timetable' - so that means a lot of sitting at their laptops twiddling their thumbs (or watching YouTube/Netflix if I'm totally honest).

After Easter is now feeling more possible which might just break me.

WouldBeGood · 15/01/2021 11:58

I have no idea why he’s said that.

And it’s in no way a substitute for school however you look at it. This is looking like another four months of my boy not seeing another child. It’s not right.

I wouldn’t be so annoyed if he came on and said “Look, we know this is shit and I’m pulling out all the stops to get children back in in February. No promises, but that’s the aim”

I want to feel they’re trying!

I might have to rejoin Us For Them 😂 if they will let me in after expulsion
