Well, now that Eck has lit the blue touch paper, things are going to get interesting!
Who is lying?
Who is telling the truth( or as close to it as any politician gets)
And, who will be left standing?

@PapsofJura I find it surprising you don't support any side and yet have an interest in politics. Do you not vote?

PapsofJura · 10/01/2021 17:01

Absolutely vote in all elections including the European ones since the 1990’s but whilst I have an interest in politics, am politically homeless. I personally find it strange when I see complete utter devotion to an individual or party as it allows us to overlook/turn a blind eye to their failings which is never a good thing. We should always question all of our politicians irrespective of our party politics.

ikswobel · 10/01/2021 17:26

@PapsofJura it's not about a person... more a set of ideals. I would say that's quite important when voting. I've only ever voted Labour or SNP ( since Scottish parliament) and count myself as left wing. I wouldn't ever consider voting conservative as I don't agree with their underlying philosophy. How do you puck? Do you make a judgment about policy or do you choose by personality?

cdtaylornats · 10/01/2021 18:14

Joanne Cherry - the woman most likely to be arrested for insurrection and starting a civil war? She can't be leader of the SNP she isn't even named after a fish,

Sturgeon is a lawyer so her getting up in court and saying "I have no memory of that meeting, your Lordship" would not fly.

It does annoy me that Sturgeon "misleading" Holyrood is a resigning offence but ignoring it twice over submissions to the Salmond enquiry is okay.

PapsofJura · 10/01/2021 18:53

@ikswobel sometimes it is the person, sometimes it’s the party, sometimes it’s the leader, it’s no one thing. But whoever I vote for is my representative in parliament and I expect them to adhere to m principles and be grateful for my vote. Too many politicians take their voters for granted, in my opinion the SNP do so just like labour did in Glasgow for many years. This breeds laziness at best and at worst corruption as power goes to their heads. And it’s that’s why we shouldn’t put our politicians on a pedestal, every single one should be called to account no matter who they are and whether you support the party they represent as ultimately they represent you.

GintyMcGinty · 10/01/2021 20:40

There's a huge difference between Ruth Davidson and Nicola Sturgeon misleading parliament.

Sturgeon is leader of the government, bound by the ministerial code.

Davidson is not.

Namechangeforthis88 · 10/01/2021 20:56

@ikswobel, instead of asking what tiny proportion of transwomen are predators, you need to ask how many predators are there and how many of them would like to have unchallenged access to spaces for women and girls? A remarkable number of sex offenders are trans.

ikswobel · 10/01/2021 20:57

She's the leader of the opposition. I think that counts.

I wonder what would happen if AS came out as trans. Sorry just visualised it while reading the thread Grin

I believe Wings' articles and that NS and PM need to go. I am an independence supporter but what they did to AS was wrong. AS may be handsy but no-one made complaints at the time and (people forget this sometimes) he was found not guilty by a jury (of mostly women).

Parrish · 11/01/2021 10:08

I can’t believe what’s happening here. AS can’t convince a jury what he did to women was bad enough...gets off....then tries to convince the Scottish public that a woman is actually the root of the problem here. In the middle of a global emergency when that woman has other things on her desk. Like saving lives and businesses. I for one will stand by NS in the street with a placard if necessary, as she is the only thing getting us through this pandemic. And I never ever have voted for the SNP.

Outsidemum1 · 11/01/2021 11:13

Exactly. A complete waste of her time when we're facing the worst health crisis in living memory.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 11:49

And yet also using it for political gain?Absolutely disgusting.

Salmond v Sturgeon
WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 11:55

I don't know why people seem so happy to accept a low standard of behaviour from those that should be demonstrating the highest?

We still await the results but I'd also point out that she has a team of people that she should be able to delegate to and doesn't need to come and lecture the population on a daily basis.

Outsidemum1 · 11/01/2021 12:40

We're not in the 'rebuilding from Covid' phase yet. He was asked a question and he's answered it. I personally feel that the sooner we gain control of travel restrictions the better.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 12:51

What? I don't understand your post. Confused

So his answer is the responsibility of the person asking the question?

If we were in the rebuilding phase why would we need travel control?

Outsidemum1 · 11/01/2021 13:05

I personally feel that we need travel control just now. Well your post seems to indicate that you're annoyed he's taking about an independent Scotland? No?

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 13:10

You still aren't making sense. You know I'm not a fan of the SNP, but the point I was making is that using a global pandemic in order to further your political desires is abhorrent.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 13:13

You said that we shouldn't be harassing NS about her alleged dishonesty and breaches of the ministerial code as there is enough going on with managing a pandemic. My point was that they seem to find time to use that pandemic to attempt political gain.

Outsidemum1 · 11/01/2021 13:22

You obviously didn't see the full interview- he was discussing home learning during the pandemic and then they asked him the question you've put a screenshot of. They're hardly spending their time canvassing for independence at the moment.

Outsidemum1 · 11/01/2021 13:41

You know I don't think anyone can say the FM has done anything less that work her backside off throughout the crisis. She's demonstrated she knows her stuff where it matters. Does anyone really feel it's of upmost importance that she's punished for forgetting she was told something two days before it actually happened?( If that's the case- it's such a non story it's laughable). I saw only the Tories have signed for a further investigation this morning.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/01/2021 13:51

They're hardly spending their time canvassing for independence at the moment. lol...

I don't think anyone has ever said that she doesn't work hard? Just more deflection from the point.

As you well know, it's about more than just allegedly "forgetting" about a meeting. It's about lying, cover up, not taking appropriate actions, going against advice and wasting public funds, breaching the ministerial code etc.

Honestly I don't care how hard someone works if their honesty and integrity are being questioned then they should be welcoming the opportunity to clear their name.

And it's not like swinney's answer or question are taken out of context or why you think that isn't taking the opportunity to put independence at the front - again.

Jodri · 11/01/2021 15:00

I’m really surprised that NS can’t remember, especially for someone who is apparently so clever. The allegations were very serious and were made against the former leader of her party and mentor. In the climate after metoo, surely all political parties were wanting to at least be seen to do the right thing and follow and deal appropriately with such a situation.

Wasn’t there criticism of NS for never sending personal emails only party emails and party emails are not covered by the freedom for information act?

I would also point out that NS has only really had Covid 19 to deal with. Everything else under her remit seems to be on the back burner and quite rightly too. She hasn’t had to negotiate brexit and she doesn’t personally come up with the ideas on how to control with the pandemic, I thought that was what the Scottish sage group was for. It’s very easy to be in power and have the facility to act like you are in opposition.

Jodri · 11/01/2021 15:34

I also remember SNP activists where tenacious about bringing down Orkney Lib Dem MSP Alistair Carmichael when he lied about a leaked Scottish office memo saying that Nicola sturgeon wanted David Cameron to win an election. I think they took him to court.

Jodri · 11/01/2021 15:55

Apologies, Alistair Carmichael is a MP not a MSP.
