Just that really

What do you think might be a realistic re-opening date.
Am I being optimistic thinking after the February break
I know no one has a crystal ball just looking for people's thoughts

Easter hols start on April 1st here, so they could have a few weeks back in school in March before they break up.

HigherHeaven · 02/02/2021 14:37

Sorry I just checked and our schools go back after Easter on April 19th...

HigherHeaven · 02/02/2021 14:38

22nd Feb...

Smurfymurphy · 02/02/2021 14:44

@HigherHeaven

22nd Feb...
Only for early years and senior years and even then phased was my understanding.
HigherHeaven · 02/02/2021 14:44

Phased return... my S2 asking me when am I going back? My S5 also saying does that mean I’m back in on 22nd because I’ve got a practical element in one of my Highers?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see and also see what schools say about it all.

Callisto1 · 02/02/2021 14:45

Nursery, P1-3 start from 22nd Feb ( TBC in 2 weeks). Then rest is phased return. Didn't catch what happens in secondary.

Absofruitly · 02/02/2021 14:45

Only P1 to 3 and exam years (part-time) going back...

Smurfymurphy · 02/02/2021 14:46

Senior years in a phased return from 22/2. Those who are doing exams.
celtiethree · 02/02/2021 14:47

Only 5 - 8 % (think that was the figures quoted) of the school roll on campus - so that practical subjects can be completed for S4-S6. Running out of time for decent set of prelims to be held for all subjects? Not sure how this will work would be interesting to hear from some teachers who have the unenviable job of navigating this.

MichelleScarn · 02/02/2021 14:50

Is it definitely happening on the 22nd? The (tbc) isn't a carrot dangler? I don't think my nerves could take it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/02/2021 14:57

It will be confirmed in 2 weeks. It couldn't still be pushed back

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/02/2021 14:57

It could still be pushed back, even

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/02/2021 15:00

Celtie there's a lot of them for prelims still - mid June for final estimates to SQA.
Mind you I don't teach a practical subject and they will have more to catch up on. Can teach mine fairly well from home, in some ways easier as I have more direct communication with the students than I did last term in school.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 02/02/2021 19:58

Mid June is for estimates to be with SQA. plenty moderation and confirmation to be fitted in before then so you're talking end of April for all kids to be assessed. Half of April is Easter hols.

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2021 21:23

So, when will the high schools go back?

Callisto1 · 02/02/2021 22:03

I'd guess we get more details in 2 weeks when they'll hopefully confirm that some years can go back. I think I'll be maniacally checking the daily infection rates till then...

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/02/2021 23:27

Some years won't be able to go back if it's 5-8% of the role - I suspect they will be back in to complete essential assessments, on some kind of rota. Back in in classes of 30 in less than three weeks is madness. Though that's what's happening in p1-3...

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/02/2021 23:29

Roll, even

Waverless · 03/02/2021 19:30

How likely does the following seem? (I know it's madness to try & second guess but I'm desperate Grin)

Tues 16th

  • lockdown review & confirmation of early years going back on 22nd
  • announcement that p4-7 return, if numbers continue to go down, on Monday 8th March

Tues 2nd March

  • review of lockdown & confirmation of p4-7 back on the 8th

That would give them nearly three weeks in school before Easter break 🤞

As for secondary - I have no clue. I would hope they would be under the same timetable but I think there's more uncertainty on the older kids. Reading that teacher assessments for exam years have to be in by end of April are really worrying.

anon444877 · 03/02/2021 20:14

It's possible that's what'll happen, I'd certainly hope for a plan for older children to be announced if things don't suddenly get worse again in two weeks.

ssd · 03/02/2021 20:16

Apologies for not reading the whole thread...but......is there a reason the wee ones are going back before the teenagers?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 03/02/2021 21:00

@ssd

Apologies for not reading the whole thread...but......is there a reason the wee ones are going back before the teenagers?

They believe the older ones transmit it more than the younger ones.
I've not heard them mention this either, but with the older ones there's the issue of them all crowding into shops and takeaways at lunchtimes.

Waverless · 03/02/2021 21:33

Yes, 16 and older are 'adult' like in their abilities to transmit the virus, young children aren't.

WouldBeGood · 03/02/2021 21:36

My boy is twelve and needs to be back at high school

Callisto1 · 03/02/2021 21:38

Think the BBC news mentioned lower transmission in younger pupils and the difficulty of online learning as reasons.

There was a public health person from Edinburgh Uni interviewed and she said that they think that the initial phase will last a month to asses the impact of nursery and P1-3 being back. It's only speculation I guess.
