Just that really

What do you think might be a realistic re-opening date.
Am I being optimistic thinking after the February break
I know no one has a crystal ball just looking for people's thoughts

England have said at least 8th March.
Do you think Scotland are likely to be any sooner, for nursery and exam years?

Invisimamma · 28/01/2021 12:44

I don't think Scotland will be sooner than England. I think we'll be lucky if it's after Easter now.

RaraRachael · 28/01/2021 15:42

I'm in two minds about this. Either NS will think of the votes she might gain from parents if she allows us back to school earlier than England, or she'll do her "I'm keeping you safer than Boris so I'll incarcerate you for a bit longer" act.

Lockdownbear · 28/01/2021 15:56

That's what I can't decide. Boris at least has nursery open.

I really could do with some honesty from SG. If I knew I was in this boat to 8th March I'd ask for unpaid leave but that's easier said than done. No point for just 2 weeks.

anon444877 · 28/01/2021 16:05

Could do with some certainty here too, I've been hoping for half term, if it's post Easter holidays I might also be better with unpaid leave for family sanity.

I'd love her to get the kids back but it'd be a complete change of her strategy so can't see it.

That said, I've got several friends who are seriously struggling, maybe that's feeding through to scot gov?

A tense wait til Tuesday.

WouldBeGood · 28/01/2021 16:16

My boy is really struggling now. I hate seeing him so fed up. He won’t go outside at all and is shouting about online school as he’s finding it boring. He was like this last time and flourished starting secondary in august, but the apathy is kicking back in. Children need to be with their peers and we need a timescale.

Lockdownbear · 28/01/2021 19:35

I've just saw NI are the 8th March, and Wales are suggesting a unified approach to schools returning. Which makes me think they'll all be at least 8th March.

Totally rotten for kids.

shouldistop · 28/01/2021 21:41

Are nurseries in Wales and NI closed ?

frasersmummy · 28/01/2021 23:03

So another 6 weeks in lockdown.. Oh joy!

There's supposed to be an announcement next Tuesday I think.

The homeschooling is becoming more and more of a fight in our house. I don't know whether to just go easy and keep the peace or try and push so DC doesn't fall behind. Toddler is getting more and more screen time Sad

Lockdownbear · 29/01/2021 00:39

I'm not sure if NI or Wales have nurseries open. My LO is getting far too much screen time too. In normal times you'd say its neglect. He doesn't sleep either which I'm sure is lack of exercise dark by the time I've finished work and home school.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 29/01/2021 12:55

Wales saying 22nd feb for their early primary years, think their nurseries never shut? So that’s really positive. No reason why our early years settings can’t open surely? We have the lowest rates in UK at the moment. I’d hope there can be some kind of a confirmation next week based on this, fingers crossed.

Callisto1 · 29/01/2021 14:24

Yeah Lockdown, neglect is a good way to describe it. A 2 year old should not be left alone in a room for half an hour staring at a screen. But with the amount of work we get and lack of nap time I can't see any good alternatives.

Sexnotgender · 31/01/2021 19:23

Nurseries and exam years need to go back ASAP.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 31/01/2021 20:18

Exam years are the most adult/more likely to get infected. Is it wise to bring them back so quickly? They will get qualifications but there are no exams and there is enough time to sit timed assessments even if we return in March/April.

WouldBeGood · 31/01/2021 20:27

All of them should be back as soon as the elderly are vaccinated.

WouldBeGood · 31/01/2021 20:27

Up to 14 years old now

Sexnotgender · 01/02/2021 11:06

Counting down the hours until we get an update on schools/nursery.

HigherHeaven · 02/02/2021 13:39

Can we watch NS live anywhere?

anon444877 · 02/02/2021 13:47

Usually you can watch live on bbc news Scotland website. Not long now...

frasersmummy · 02/02/2021 13:51

@WouldBeGood do you mean bring back all the kids up to the 14 year olds??

What about the exam years.. they are as much in need of education and socialisation as the younger ones

OP posts:
Callisto1 · 02/02/2021 13:59

I think they meant the early years, so nursery, P1 and maybe P2.

HigherHeaven · 02/02/2021 14:29

On BBC2 Politics Show now... back at ‘end of February ‘ hopefully but more details to follow... does that not mean mid-March because it’s Easter holidays?

RaraRachael · 02/02/2021 14:32

Our Easter holidays start 26th March. We have mid term break this Friday and next Monday. Don't think are councils are the same though.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/02/2021 14:32

Easter holidays aren't mid March?
