Isn't the sequel always worse than the original??

Well the original was shite, the sequel will be nothing to write home about. They better noo bother trying to make it a trilogy..

Oh, and Joe Wicks can FUCK OFF AND NEVER COME BACK.
Yesss. Preach It Sista.... The sanctimonious healthy git...

Thanks for the new thread cis. Can't believe the old one lasted about 3 days. Almost as if we moan a lot about the tiers, or something.

Someone asked about touch typing (sorry I can’t remember who) my kids really like typing.com it takes them gradually through correct placement etc but also has typing games they like
You create a free account for them so it saves their progress

Aww @Groovee I love your mum. What a sad thing to have to do, to collect your husband from the undertakers, but she managed to make us all smile while she was doing it. Which is no mean feat given the state of us right now. Sending love to all your family.

I'm back in one day at a time survival mode so I'm not listening to any briefings. My great aunt loved that song, we sang it together all the time. It's weird if you look it up on youtube and there's Lena Martel singing what's basically a hymn on Top of the Pops.

I'm only human, I'm just a woman
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am

Just give me the strength to do every day
What I have to do

And whether Jesus is your cup of tea or not I'm sure we'll all do what we have to do one way or the other. We might be on our knees by the end but we'll get there.

Rae36 · 05/01/2021 20:44

Lockdown has driven me to total insanity. On page 1 I was cursing about footballers in Dubai and on page 3 I'm quoting hymns. Lost it.

Totally! I really hope they start relaxing restrictions and reopen schools on BoJo's timeline and not NS's. I know February is pushing it to get all over 70s and vulnerable done, but that at least is a reasonable aim in terms of maximising the protection offered, yet not too far in the future to cause us to shrivel up into a quivering ball. But May is basically June, which is basically the end of the school year, and that is unthinkable.

If they get some stuff back running in Feb, and continue the vaccination rapidly into the summer and autumn, personally I'm OK with some protections still being around into next year. Though I would really like masks to go ASAP (apart from in some very limited cases) and social distancing from relatives and friends can gtf too. Happy to stay 2m from mr stinky mc mad on the bus in perpetuity, frankly, though, and a reduced distance (1m?) from people in other public places may help with general personal space issues. Not sure how that will work for theatres/ cinemas etc though.

Cismyfatarse · 05/01/2021 20:50

@Bikingbear Wasn't mine but I totally agree.

Thanks Gibsons it was me who asked about typing.

I've just seen CBBC will have 3 hours of telly a day supporting primary curriculum. Inc celebrity supply teacher
BBC2 will supporting secondary.

I can't believe they organized that overnight?

Grin You and me both! Also, yes, groovee. Your mum sounds great! She should come on here too. Flowers to her too though for having to do that job.
Groovee · 05/01/2021 20:55

@Bikingbear

Groovee - where is he now? I think my Dads loitering in my Mums wardrobe 🤣

I think some SD, in restaurants and screens in shops will be with us through next winter just to be cautious. But the majority of stuff will be open and normally resuming.
Going by the original calculator and allowing for limits on vaccine manufacturing low risk younger adults could be into late Autumn before they are vaccinated and you need 3 weeks beyond first injection.

But schools will be back long before then. They can't have kids missing a year of school. And repeating years isn't really an option either, because it equates to a permanent change to the school system.

Well she had planned the fireplace. But the box is too big. So not sure at the moment. 😂

Invisimamma · 05/01/2021 21:36

Summer!! Please no, the consequences of that for some dc and families will be absolutely dire.

Not to mention all the families that usually cope but this situation has pushed them to the brink 😰.

We've taken the decision to use 'informal childcare' arrangements this time, which we haven't done up until now, it making me mad we're being forced into that just when things are at their very worst. But better alternative than sat at school with 60 other households (2 dc). We've followed every rule and only shop online etc, haven't been in another home since March or had anyone in ours... 😠, but I can't work effectively and look after children.

In more positive news, dp will be receiving the vaccine soon, he's got his appt (NHS staff).

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 21:52

I do not believe for a minute that schools will be closed until summer.
Think what that does to every part of the economy beyond Amazon?

Furlough only goes to April, that indicates that they'll be expecting some normality by then too.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/01/2021 21:53

I don't think it's likely - but I wouldn't rule it out. How many times has furlough been extended now???

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 21:57

Summer also means the younger preschool children only getting one Term of nursery education before school.Shock

Just no way this can go on until summer again.
Don't mean to be horrible but surely you have to hit a point where all the most vulnerable are either vaccinated or already dead.

Dinnafashyersel · 05/01/2021 22:10

Not like me but I'll play the optimist for once.

BJ confirming 1.3m already vaxxed which means more like 1.5m given paperwork collation. Journalists reporting 3.5m Oxford vaxxes in process of being stamped and sent out plus over 1m Pfizer left over from change to 12 week 2nd dose schedule. That gets to 7m which covers all of BJ's category 1-4 as his progress benchmark. (UK usually vaccinates 14m adults for flu annually and 1-9 is roughly same cohort)

If you're more keen on gallows humour then at current weekly infection rate of 2% we'll all have had it at least once by next winter. So yes either vaccinated or already dead.

Ginsmything · 05/01/2021 22:11

@Groovee hugs to you and your family. My dad passed away last December and he sat under my mums Christmas tree until we scattered his ashes just before Hogmanay. 😊

Dinnafashyersel · 05/01/2021 22:12

Man shouldn't post while watching Bond, forgot to note Pfizer pipeline to get to 7m.

Bytheloch · 05/01/2021 22:21

@Rae36 Grin that’s quite a leap between subjects

Bytheloch · 05/01/2021 22:24

Aww @Groovee your mum, such strength and it made me laugh, so lovely if you know your dad would find that funny tooGrin Hope you’re ok tonight and it’s still making you smile.

Groovee · 05/01/2021 22:35

Omg dh picked Dd up from work. I'd left a box in the front seat. She picked it up quite the thing and asked what it was... he replied "it's grandad!" She sat with the box believing it was his ashes 😭😂🤣 you couldn't make it up. I can't breathe from laughing.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/01/2021 22:38

You have to laugh Groovee!!

Bikingbear · 05/01/2021 22:44

Ginsmything - OMG under the tree!!🤣

I remember the shock when mum sat us down in her serious voice 'eh just so you know your Dads upstairs in the wardrobe'. I didn't even know she'd collected himShock.

I don't think I could cope with him being in the living room or under the tree. But I'm sure my Dad would laugh at being stuffed in the wardrobe.

Watching news they are saying there's a worldwide shortage of vaccine vials, surely they could be recycled or am I missing something?
