Absolutely bloody horrendous - how did they get into the capitol building and especially since trump made another not conceding speech this am, should've been on high alert!

Twitter says they are in Pelosi's office (but they've evacuated thankfully).

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/01/2021 20:35

Watching it with DD and she comes out with "they're more irritating than a parade of nits"

Sums it up

So, 2021 huh?

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/01/2021 20:41

Awesome isn't it

anon444877 · 06/01/2021 20:48

We may have to merge 2020 and 2021 together and celebrate some sort of liberation day as new year in May...perhaps a new public holiday!

Real banana republic stuff re the US.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 20:49

when you said "us capitol" i thought you were being funny and have been checking the news for scotland...

back to news for another look

Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 20:52

Anon - May, has Lizzy noo got a big birthday or jubilee in May

That could be an excuse for a party. Nic I'll no like it but ...

anon444877 · 06/01/2021 21:00

Ha I googled, there's a platinum jubilee for queenie in June 2022, which is about when we might be allowed to meet more than one household inside! June this year might be a bit optimistic :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/01/2021 21:05

Sadly not. Completely insane
Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 21:06

Aww well - I've never felt the need to want to celebrate anything Royal before but this year any excuse for a party.

2022 should be the end of covid restrictions.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 21:10

That is insane. I get people's right to protest but what do they think that achieves?

WouldBeGood · 06/01/2021 21:13

@WaxOnFeckOff this is nuts

kurtrussellsbeard · 06/01/2021 21:50

Shocked and horrified. The world is fast becoming unrecognisable 😓

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 21:57

I'm ambivalent about Royalty but hopefully we will all be able to be out and about toasting Queenie by May 22 when we get our 4 day weekend with extra bank holiday.

Our street was planning to have a street party/barbeque when this is all over but the way things are, that could end up being a jubilee party in 22

Cismyfatarse · 06/01/2021 21:58

It is bloody scary how quickly things change. Obama to Trump and, for us, security and being able to do what we want to uncertainty and confinement.

Anyone guess when schools will go back? Best guesses amongst colleagues today ranged from 1st Feb to August.

My bet is on 1st March to give us 4 weeks before Easter. SQA need all teacher assessed grades by the end of May so it is very tight time wise to manage any reasonable assessments at all.

OP posts:
kurtrussellsbeard · 06/01/2021 22:15

@Cismyfatarse do you think assessments will still go ahead as planned. I just can't see how it could be done in this timeframe. I think even if we make it back into school mid March it's 1. Very tight and 2. Not really fair on the kids to assess them when they've not really had the full support they need.

I'm starting to despair and I've always been pretty positive.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 06/01/2021 22:16

It’s all very overwhelming isn’t it. All the news. Trying to work. Trying to do what’s best for your kids. Worrying about older/vulnerable relatives.

It’s a lot.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/01/2021 22:24

I made a garland of snowflakes which say "fuck 2020" as a decoration (hilariously my MIL didn't notice what they said!)

At this rate I'm going to need a 2021 version too

WouldBeGood · 06/01/2021 22:34

@Cismyfatarse my guess is after Easter at the very earliest.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 06/01/2021 22:46

I am also despairing of how we are going to get everyone assessed fairly in time. There's extensive moderation required and the SQA were wanting finalised grades before Easter. I'm hoping they'll move that but with the SQA who knows?

Cismyfatarse · 06/01/2021 23:05

We had a big chat about assessments today and we are going to do what we can with the less useful ones (Past papers) and hold back this year's P&N and the SQA new ones (although we only have N5 so far) and then do those ones later.

It is an absolute mess. And last year was hard but we had a lot more data in March 20 than we do in January 21.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 23:18

My gut instinct says after Easter, but I can see how with vaccine rollout if it goes to plan and takes the pressure off the NHS the kids could get back 1st March.

I pray that it happens 🤞🤞🤞

WouldBeGood · 06/01/2021 23:20

Hope so @Lockdownbear

And boy, I don’t envy you teachers trying to sort all this

Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 23:20

Do you think they'd allow provision for the kids to sit prelims in school now, socially distancing the kids out?
