I just hate seeing posters I like so down.
I want to hug you all.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/01/2021 22:56

ssd, you are so right, we do need to cut ourselves some slack. Before christmas I was actually getting panic attacks when sat at my laptop for no reason. I know I can catch up on what I need to and it might not be perfect but hey ho, as you say, i need to cut some slack. but, i would just sit there and all of a sudden feel the need to just get up and walk away (fight or flight in action I guess!) rubbish feeling and I know I could make it better but i'm my own worst enemy I think.

Also still scratching with my Penicillin reaction. Rash has gone but from time to time my arms and legs in particular just get soooo itchy. what's that all about!? Trying not to scratch as there is broken skin and i'm wary about getting another skin infection as obvs can't take what they gave me before.

However, as I say again, i know there are folks who have much more to be worrying about and I need to take a chill pill and sort myself out. I'm going to try to enjoy my last day off tomorrow and actually do something.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/01/2021 22:58

@WaxOnFeckOff

We need a new mattress, DH is waking with a sore back every day. He is very fit and does a physical job (NHS) but it's interfering with his gym (in the garage) routine and it's not great for his work either.

However, we don't have access to anywhere to try some out so now trying to make an expensive purchase without being able to try it.

@WaxOnFeckOff we got a new mattress in November, just before the last lockdown. It was from Dreams. It was spectacularly uncomfortable, far too firm for me and I got a really bad back. They do a £49 changeover service after 30 days, DH just called them up and arranged it. It was very easy.

Would recommend if you really need a new mattress just for the peace of mind of being able to change it hassle free.

(You do have to wrap the mattress in a massive plastic bag though to protect from the Covid.)

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/01/2021 23:05

That's good info thanks @RaspberryCoulis. Do you mean you need to keep it wrapped in plastic when using or just for transport?

We do really need it according to DH, i'm actually not minding too much which is funny as I was getting sore hips before, we've turned it and twisted it all ways and I think he has the firmest bit possible. It's defo due a change and this time we'd bought the exact same model as the one we had last time but this really hasn't lasted as well. We swapped the old one as it was about 10 years old but in reality it was in better nick when we got this new one that this one is now and it's only about 7 years old. Was about £600 at the time so not cheap rubbish.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/01/2021 23:07

No just for transport!! We did order it in store but you can order online too. They send you the bag in the post to package up your old mattress if you've asked them to take it away.

All they need you to do is use a mattress protector on the new mattress for the first 30 days until you decide whether it suits you. We just have a fabric mattress protector from Asda, nothing fancy.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/01/2021 23:11

That's good, we always use a mattress protector anyway. Will have a proper look tomorrow or tell DH to...

sweetkitty · 03/01/2021 23:14

I got an Eve mattress last January it’s still lovely.

Bit deflated here too. Probably going to totally out myself so if you know me well hello. I’m a ASN primary teacher, back as normal on Wednesday except parents have been sent a letter saying school is open for vulnerable children which your children are but you may want to consider sending them given the pandemic etc. Transport is on leaks provided. A bespoke online learning package will be provided that children will be able to utilise at home from the following week. Now most of our children are severely autistic non verbal and compartmentalise that school is school and home is home. They’ve just had 2 weeks at home with nowhere to go apart from icy walks to the park. Their parents were on their knees last lockdown when it was nice and they could go out in the garden it’s going to be worse this time. Parents will need respite and sleep. Sadly school provides this as their clubs are closed too. I predict most of our children will be in school, they need that routine too.

From my own point of view, my DH will be at home with our four DC working full time, DD1 is sitting highers, DD2 N5s DD3 S1 and DS P6, whilst not babies they need a fair bit of organising and are lazy and will do nothing/game all day if left to it. It’s fair to say I’m not looking forward to any prolonged online learning/school closures.

I would be happy to be vaccinated quickly and be back in school and get my own children back to school as soon as possible too.

titsbumfannythelot · 03/01/2021 23:29

Totally agree with you @Sweetpotatoaddict, the increase in cases now is down to the poor decisions made mid December, we will need to wait a few weeks before we see how the Christmas mixing has impacted numbers.

RaspberryCoulis · 03/01/2021 23:36

Have just seen an advert on Indeed from NHS Lanarkshire trying to recruit covid vaccine staff.

Good and bad....

Good - the advert says the clinic is to run 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

Bad - the closing date for the vacancy is Wednesday 6th. By the time they've shortlisted, interviewed, chased referneces, made offers, checked PVG status it'll be around.... May?

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 23:46

Raspberry- That's the add I saw the other day, it really doesn't fill me with confidence.

England will be back to normal, 20,000 Firefighters trained to do them and god knows who else.

Scotland will still be fannying around with Nicola in her shag me shoes. Trying to find the right people to recruit. I've got a sneaky feeling there was a thought that the army could be called in and she's been told no.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/01/2021 00:37

Grin

Do the nhs still wait until a consultant has actually left to start advertising for their replacement? (They used to but I’m out of the loop now.) the vaccine advert made me remember...

Empty calendar is still mocking me from the work surface & I’m worried they’ll stop us driving to find a greater variety of icy/muddy/both Hmm walks again.

Back to a rhythm here tomorrow the fluidity of Christmas doesn’t really suit any of us!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/01/2021 00:38

Is there a reason our firefighters couldn’t give jabs? I rather liked the idea Grin

Perihelion · 04/01/2021 00:38

Can't see any confirmation that any fire fighters have actually been trained.

SE England doesn't look like it'll be getting back to normal any time soon. And for fannying around, how about the primary schools in Haringey, North London, which were still due to return tomorrow, until it changed on Friday... In a borough with 960 cases per 100,000, where the local hospital has 63% of it's beds filled with Covid patients.

Arkadia · 04/01/2021 00:50

@WaxOnFeckOff, we got a new mattress for Christmas from Wayfair. They do free returns for 100 days (and am thinking to return it. I prefer my old memory foam, while this is sprung)

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 00:51

That was the reason that DS2 never got his laser treatment for his facial scars. He did the whole referral to consultant, consultant to hospital, appointment at hospital, further appointment for photos, appointment for mental evaluation (all these in Glasgow so DH or I having to take time off work to take him there) then wait and then finally, a letter saying consultant has left, everyone chucked of the list, wait a year and then go back to GP to begin the process all over again..

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 00:54

Thanks Arkadia, it's a sprung one we will be looking for - DH has weird allergies plus the foam means you run hot I think? We are already on a 2.5 tog quilt and no heating in the bedroom and I don't think it's been much above freezing for a while.

Bytheloch · 04/01/2021 00:55

Once again, if we’d had a joined up, four nations approach from the beginning, we’d now hopefully have a vaccine rollout programme, targeting the areas in the U.K. most in need in their communities (e.g. higher prevalence of elderly).

I’ve seen it suggested that the daily broadcast could now be used to announce the daily vaccinated total, to ensure transparency around the delivery target.
It wouldn’t need NS to announce that either.
I wholeheartedly agree with that.

Matilda2013 · 04/01/2021 00:58

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons from my experience with NHS they don't advertise for any member of staff until they've left...

The other place I found a link was The Sun but I'd heard it on BBC radio news.

Going back to Mattresses. We searched for 2 years before getting this one from IKEA. I suffer badly with my pelvis after Dd. My osteopath says she's seen a huge difference since I got the bed.

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hoevag-pocket-sprung-mattress-medium-firm-dark-grey-20258763/

IKEA had special things to take to test the mattresses.

runningpink · 04/01/2021 06:41

Have woken after my usual crap sleep with that awful feeling of doom yet again.
Anxiety is really kicking in.

And iv just checked and it’s 2pm before she is on tv today. It’s going to be a long day.
I don’t actually think I can watch so I will probably check in here for updates.

I have a ‘friend who continues to message me during most updates even when I have asked her not too. It really upsets me and winds me up. Iv told her I will watch if i decide to or check for details when it suits me. But nope she can’t seem to help herself.

I got my bed and mattress from Bensons a few years back and have no complaints. If you order online be sure to check cash back sites as I got a fairly good amount back on mine. Every little helps.

Rae36 · 04/01/2021 07:33

Morning. I'm doing an online gym class at 8 so really need to get out of bed but I don't want another day to start yet. I can ignore all the shit when I'm still lying in bed. And as soon as I get up everyone else will be up.
I hate this feeling, its so unlike me. I don't want to be wishing a whole other month of my life away but I am.

goodname · 04/01/2021 07:37

So, apart from closing schools, anything they announce today as further restrictions is very unlikely to make a difference to the spread as far as I can see? Reducing travel but we’re already stuck in council areas. Reducing contacts but we already can only meet one household outside
Is all the spread basically happening in workplaces that have to stay open, schools, hospitals and care homes and by some rule bending/breaking? In which case what is announced will have no discernible effect (except schools) apart from to pushing us all further into misery?
I can accept closing schools as at least it will most likely help reduce the spread but anything else seems like control and cruelty to an unreasonable degree.
I have to say so far I have followed all rules fairly well. We don’t meet people inside, I work from home, kids not going to other people’s houses. But we meet people outside as much as we can for a walk and to let the kids play. It keeps us all sane. Forcing the kids out for exercise with no promise of seeing their friends will be tough. To be honest if they ban meeting outside it will just mean I am tempted to let them play with other kids inside.

Full of dread for the announcement today.

Rae36 · 04/01/2021 07:37

I am also living in a weird bubble where no-one I know has had covid, none of us have had to isolate. One son had a test but it was negative. So part of me still doesn't get what all the fuss is about.
This is the strangest time in my whole life. My brain just can't really process it and I lurch from day to day in a dream. Or nightmare, who knows

Bikingbear · 04/01/2021 07:43

I know one family who's definitely had it, in the current wave. Back in the first wave a couple of friends lost family members and I strongly suspected a work colleague had it in January before testing was available.

Nursery had a couple of positive cases which they were open about. School only informed affected families about their case so don't know what other cases they've had.
