When do you think schools and nurseries will actually re-open?

@NewYearTypicalMe when they say the cabinet that means Ms Sturgeon

GoldenOmber · 04/01/2021 11:50

Would expect they’ll agree.

Are they going to keep us in a rolling ‘just 2 weeks longer’ limbo? Sad

MadameBlobby · 04/01/2021 11:57

February half term at the earliest with part time til Easter is my guess.

Rae36 · 04/01/2021 12:05

Is it 2pm we hear? I'll take school closures till the end of January so long as we can meet up with a friend outside. (Can't believe I'm even making these bargains with myself, fuck's sake)

I'm distracting myself by listening to Our Lives with Michelle McManus on Radio Scotland. Cheery, uplifting stories, each one only lasts about 10 minutes which is about my attention span today.

shouldistop · 04/01/2021 12:36

Announcement is 2pm I believe but there will be lots of waffle beforehand.
I'm taking kids to the park in an hour or so. Will check here for an update!

@DollyMixtureLulus

If a child is only moving between their home and a grandparents’, they are much safer than they are in a room with 25 other children. It’s like six degrees of separation in reverse.

Are the key worker children receiving education or childcare?
We don’t know that either. We are also expecting more children to claim a place this time, which means that home learning provision can’t be as good.

This exactly. Also grandparents are sometimes fairly young and fit and only maybe in their 50's

Almost certainly re: the limbo which pisses me right off.

Wish they'd just say now what the thresholds are for school return, in terms of case numbers, vaccination uptake, whatever.

And I'd rather be told after Easter now than be kept being told it'll be reviewed in 2 weeks. Uncertainty is so stressful.

Yes!

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 04/01/2021 12:57

@Musicalmistress I work Monday to Friday so 2 days in school doesn’t really help me, I’m just pointing out that blended learning would only work for us if provision was provided every day so I can continue to work in community nursing

NewYearTypicalMe · 04/01/2021 13:00

The rolling limbo is hell. I get that they want to react to the current situation but it causes so much anxiety, can't plan anything and so demoralising
This latest tweet has me reaching for the gin

They just ignore the thresholds anyway, like they did with the tiers

Ruled · 04/01/2021 13:10

I would want to see justification for keeping under 12s off school & nursery for any longer than the 18th.

Was so anxious about this last night I hardly slept - undoing all the good of the restful Christmas break!

If we had an idea of the likely timeframe then I could plan how much leave to take - unpaid too - I'm FT wfh at the moment but that's just not in any way sustainable with home schooling and keeping young ones sane & healthy. So thinking I can take a couple days off a week at least - assuming my manager agrees. Doubt my work load would drop though - just pile it on to the coming months. It's so stressful, though I know others have it worse.

True. I am just despairing now.
Ruled · 04/01/2021 13:11

Anyone got informal childcare bubbles planned? I'm assuming there's no limits as such?

Yes same here. If it’s 3 weeks I can just take it as leave, if it’s 3 months I don’t want to use up all my unpaid leave entitlement right at the start. And it does feel like the country’s getting fairly jaded about the “a few weeks” timeline now (that 16-day central belt lockdown in September has certainly been lasting a while...)

With my parents and possibly a member of our church who is a retired childminder. My husband will speak to her later and see if she’s willing to help us 2 mornings a week.
Sweetpotatoaddict · 04/01/2021 13:21

My bet is end of April. Just prior to the election.

30not13 · 04/01/2021 13:36

Patiently sat waiting for the update at 2 Confused

gotyerhat · 04/01/2021 13:59

I feel sick just waiting for this.

ParkheadParadise · 04/01/2021 14:10

This us a bloody nightmare.

MadameBlobby · 04/01/2021 14:29

Fucks sake

Come on Nicola we have done our bit long enough. Get that vaccine out ASAP

Sexnotgender · 04/01/2021 14:29

Me too.
Sexnotgender · 04/01/2021 14:29

Obviously quoted the wrong post!

Invisimamma · 04/01/2021 14:34

The news want surprising really. I want everyone to be safe but it doesn't make it any easier to take.

I don't have any leave left to take, I took it all during the first lockdown as I didn't realise this would roll on for so many months 😞. My dc are climbing the walls today and we haven't even started home schooling and I'm not back to work yet.

Sexnotgender · 04/01/2021 20:14

How are nurseries open in England 😫😡
