When do you think schools and nurseries will actually re-open?

Is that the Devic Oracle?

Sexnotgender · 02/01/2021 16:04

God this thread is depressing 😫 the thought of trying to work full time whilst 6 months pregnant with my 2 year old to also look after until Easter might finish me off.

Not what I was hoping to read but I do think Feb is probably the most likely too Sad
I don't know how I'll manage, I'm a keyworker but can work from home and some council areas aren't accepting that. No idea how I'll cope to February or worse. DH helped out as much as he could last time and we split 50/50 but I doubt he will have the option this time as he is also a keyworker & overrun with work now.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 17:23

@GaolBhoAlba she’s a nightmare - “ make your own sunshine” 🙄

Lidlfix · 02/01/2021 17:33

Feel really gloomy for my DD and my pupils. Just hope the next week or so makes a drastic difference.

And guidance for ECV pupils, staff or those who have members of their households at high risk would be welcome - soon.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 17:46

Not about schools, but there’s reassuring news on children on the Royal College of Paediatricians Twitter feed

shouldistop · 02/01/2021 17:51

@WouldBeGood I'm not on Twitter could you post a screen shot?

Ds has only been off nursery for less than a fortnight, he's already asking when he's going back and today wanted to play 'nurseries'.

I don't think the risks for children are particularly large; but it's their parents & grandparents who are at risk from them.

So much with covid is hard to predict; better safe than sorry.

The high-risk groups (NHS staff, care homes, etc) won't complete their vaccinations until at least Easter (2 doses 12 weeks apart)

We just need to plod on for a bit longer.

So why are we closing nurseries and forcing grandparents to step into the void?
WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 18:52

This isn’t a schools/nurseries thread.

This is a “isn’t good the children aren’t sick” thread

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 18:53

Oops sorry wrong thread 😃

After the February break
This
Vindo · 02/01/2021 18:56

February half term for nursery and primary, maybe Easter for high school.

applesandpears33 · 02/01/2021 19:30

This is depressing. I'd hoped that they would all be going back in January. I'll keep my fingers crossed the covid numbers peak and start to decline soon.

sweetkitty · 02/01/2021 19:49

I work in an ASN primary school we are opening as usual on the 6th January. It’s up to parents whether to send their children in or not (in my experience this will mean probably 80%+ of our children will be in school on the 6th January).

I’m torn as much as school is the best place for a lot of the children and their families after 2 weeks at home with nothing open, there’s no way we can social distance. I’ve kind of accepted the risk to myself now as most of out staff have, I’m not in a shielding category or vulnerable. In a way I’m the lucky one poor DH will be at home trying to work with our four DC

So there's to be an update tomorrow ...

Dinnafashyersel · 03/01/2021 16:58

My money's on May. Don't see how they can justify opening prior to getting bulk of phase 1 vaccines done if they stay shut now. No amount of reassuring mitigations hold water at this juncture.

If infections stay the same then argue risk too high but if infections fall argue strategy of keeping closed is working. Heads and tails both lead to same conclusion.

Lidlfix · 03/01/2021 17:16

Oh no, please not May. I am still grimly clinging to blended from the 18th and then perhaps a gradual increase up to 100%.

Of course if transmission rockets then whatever needs to be done to keep pupils, staff and the families they go home to.

Wannabewriter · 03/01/2021 17:17

God our poor kids Sad

Dinnafashyersel · 03/01/2021 17:31

I have no idea how politicians would even begin to sell blended at this point. Compromise which would please no-one and just adds more disruption and uncertainty.

I don't want schools closed till May I just don't see a scenario which prevents it.
