Hear, hear, @WouldBeGood

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2020 17:41

And California very bad though very strict 🤷🏻‍♀️

Outsidemum1 · 29/12/2020 17:50

Laughing? Wow.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 29/12/2020 17:53

Has anyone offered any explanation as to the numbers in Wales? The number looks horrendous next to Scotland/England/ NI

Wonder why Wales is so badly affected? I think the level 4 is necessary here and I for one feel a bit better knowing that we are acting in a preventative way. Doesn't bode well for schools going back any time soon though Confused

Outsidemum1 · 29/12/2020 18:24

There's a huge amount of cross border travel from England to Wales and although travel is technically not allowed, it's impossible to police effectively as there's so many roads in. The variant from London and SE has been found to be the cause of most outbreaks there. I really hope the same doesn't happen here but time will tell.. we could easily be in their position.

fluffyugg · 29/12/2020 18:28

Yes, it could easily happen here...that's why I think schools will stay shut so that things don't go that way

anon444877 · 29/12/2020 18:28

I'm surprised NI numbers are on a par with England too. Can travel from England really determine why it's so much worse in Wales? So English travellers are exporting covid at a higher rate than is in the population they come from?

anon444877 · 29/12/2020 18:29

Well I hope it snows again tomorrow to cheer all the kids up.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 29/12/2020 18:32

My DD is bored stiff already and moaning all the time. She wants to see her friends and she's allowed to meet one household outside but I reckon that will soon change!

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2020 18:40

It’s because of the Welsh lockdowns

runningpink · 29/12/2020 18:42

Are we expecting just a ‘normal’ daily update tomorrow or an actual announcement?

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/12/2020 19:05

Oh outsidemum, I was just coming on to ask how you know the occupancy of the flights from down south into the Highlands but you've removed the post. Sad

Bytheloch · 29/12/2020 19:33

🙈 it seems the ‘blame London for everything’ in the nations applies to covid rates too.
WaxOnFeckOff · 29/12/2020 19:42

So, people travelling from London manage to infect in Wales at more than 6 times the rate that they infect in London? Confused

Bytheloch · 29/12/2020 19:46

The horrific mutant strain (©️Daily Mail) is delivering into the nations from its motherboard ‘in London’ isn’t it? Flying people up to the highlands and driving them through barracades into Wales. Is it taking the ferry or flying to NI, do we know?

ikswobel · 29/12/2020 20:12

I asked that question somewhere else on MN today ( Wales) and Welsh people said no one is following the lockdown or any rules, basically.

ikswobel · 29/12/2020 20:20

@WaxOnFeckOff think that would make sense... they are saying it's 71% more infectious than previously.
So 1 asymptomatic person travelling would be much riskier than previously.
Lots of workers over from NI and the republic atm working with Scottish Power, infrastructure, roads etc.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 29/12/2020 20:26

The Welsh numbers are insane. Even if a lot of people are not following lockdown, you'd think the elements of lockdown that are enforced (no non-essential shops, no hospitality, no gyms presumably, etc) would help bring the numbers down. A lot of cross border travel would just cause similar numbers to England you'd think.
Does anyone know if it's the super spreader variant that's disproportionately affecting them?

Bikingbear · 29/12/2020 20:38

Could it be the mutant strain started in Wales but found in London?

Wales have been a bit like Scotland trying to go a step further than England

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/12/2020 20:42

No the point is that it doesn't make sense. Who cares how many people get a positive pcr test anyway? What matters is how many people are dying from (not with) covid and how many people require hospital treatment because of covid.

And actually, covid deaths are a small proportion of all deaths so where is all the nationwide attention and reports and financial support for all that?

Interestingly the USA have a number of people registered as dead from covid who also happened to have had bullet wounds. Did someone mow them down like infected zombies?

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 29/12/2020 20:43

Me too. I can't be doing with bullshit comments like that.

Also I agree there must be some other factor driving the numbers in Wales.

OP posts:
ikswobel · 29/12/2020 20:56

Why do you think it's the deaths that matter @WaxOnFeckOff ? It's the capacity in the hospitals -if we have lots of cases even if most of them are really mild, there will be an increase in the number of serious cases. They will use up the hospital beds and then when you or I have an accident or whatever they won't be available to treat us. That's the main thing. My elderly dad had an operation in October, if things had been as bad as they are getting now he would still be in pain as the op would be cancelled due to lack of ITU.

blowinahoolie · 29/12/2020 21:02

ikswobel spot on.
