@Wbeezer

My mum and Dad are being paid to take part in a Covid research project (not the vaccine) they're being tested one a month for a year, £50 first year then £25 a month, each. They're using it to buy a new freezer.
Family of@Wbeezer purchase Covid freezer
littlbrowndog · 17/12/2020 20:19

I don’t understand. Most of the 4 nations have been in some sort of lockdown for months.

Wearing masks. Not going into other peoples houses

Why is it not working.

We never get told this.

Bikingbear · 17/12/2020 20:19

Yip just about every winter you see pictures of hospitals with ques of ambulances outside.

Just thinking, given a lot of the people who'd normally be vulnerable to flu have possibly be killed by covid could there be less flu deaths and illness?

I have signed up to the vaccine trials thing too but I think they've probably got lots of grumpy middle aged women from Glasgow.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 17/12/2020 20:20

I heard about NI and immediately thought what will NS come up with.

littlbrowndog
I've no idea, it bamboozles me.

They're using it to buy a new freezer

Oh that made me laugh @Wbeezer

No idea why, not much has made me laugh today but that did. I hope they enjoy their freezer.

Bikingbear · 17/12/2020 20:39

Just thinking, we know Germany allow meeting in houses but not cafes, where the UK is the opposite, which seems to bring the rates down quickest?

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 17/12/2020 20:43

@littlbrowndog none of it works. The virus runs its seasonal course no matter what measures are in place.

That’s why it’s all so pointless and soul destroying.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/12/2020 20:45

Just for comparison, Travel Tabby UK page has a bit that you can rank every council area by various factors - i did it by the normal 7 day rate per 100k

This is currently the top council area by that measure :

Merthyr Tydfil: 7 day rate per 100k =1205.1, they had 446 new "cases" from a population of 60326

Stirling: 7 day rate per 100k = 66.9, 11 new cases from a population of 94210 - Level 3 (359th out of 380 council areas)

Highest area currently in Scotland is North Ayrshire at 193.7 also level 3

@Bytheloch I saw WINTER SPICE flavoured Twix in B&M while I was there illegallythe other day - I was looking for their brown paper because it's wider than most and I thought it might be good for a 2m cracker (with some internal structure) but alas they were sold out, so I put the Twixes back because I wasn't going through the till with only two, probably absolutely rank, Twixes 😂

Bytheloch · 17/12/2020 20:53

The Germany rules at least put the choice in your hands, so you can decide the risk to your immediate family. Having the freedom to choose is what I want back most of all.
I’m done with endless lectures from the dentist on how a granny dies any time you share a gravy boat.

This is exactly what I have been saying for weeks
Bytheloch · 17/12/2020 20:59

Winter Spice Twix?!?! I can’t unsee that now @polarisation 🙈

See what’s happened having all these creative types working alone at home, no kind office colleagues to stop them putting that spark of an idea up on slack🤷‍♀️

Perihelion · 17/12/2020 21:01

What brings the rate down quickest? Full lockdown, or most of the population vaccinated. Everything else has been multiple desperate attempts to keep the R below 1 and low levels of Covid, while trying to keep the economy openish. Which apart from about 2 weeks in July, was impossible due to too high a circulating level of Covid and piss poor contact tracing.

"You really don't want to get sick over the next six weeks," he said.". I don't see that as a change in narrative, but a doctor shitting it about what will happen. I've a friend who's left the NHS recently because they couldn't face this winter in ICU.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/12/2020 21:01

Because lockdowns simply don't work and masks probably don't either - you feel they should and it sounds like they should.

On an individual basis avoiding people might be beneficial but on a society level they just don't. I'm sure there is lots of stuff by lots of eminent scientists explaining why this is rather than folk just dismissing it as bunkum, but they aren't the ones getting time in MSM and aren't the ones being paid as government advisers.

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2020 21:08

I agree.
WouldBeGood · 17/12/2020 21:09

this explains it

polarisation · 17/12/2020 21:11

Winter spice Twix apparently only available for 12 weeks... An Amazon review said it's a bit like Lebkuchen? If it was like Biscoff I'd be there, but Lebkuchen not so much.

But anyone, nobody tell Krampus Sturgeon or she'll ban them for being a non essential limited edition product that might make you go to a shop and kill a granny.

polarisation · 17/12/2020 21:11

*anyway

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/12/2020 21:16

Reid Sheftall MD in the video after yours is another I was thinking off @wouldbegood.

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2020 21:18

Oh, I’ll take a look. It just makes sense given what we’ve seen

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/12/2020 21:23

There is a lot of sense being spoken by a lot of very bright folk, they are just being drowned out by the mediocre unfortunately

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2020 21:26

@WaxOnFeckOff why do you think that is? I’m puzzled

Cismyfatarse · 17/12/2020 21:32

@RaspberryCoulis Clearly not grumpy enough! I am fecking furious so even the white twix didn't take away from my joy at crossing county lines for my arm full of drugs.
